Disciple of Prayer
I am interested in a brother in Christ at church, and I am praying the Lord, if it is his will, to create opportunities for us to get to know each other more and for discernment and clarity on what God's will is for our lives. I am also praying for the will of my heart to align with God's will and to trust the Lord with my heart and future marriage, and for Him to help me not to invest too much time thinking about it or idolizing marriage. If this is not the Lord's will for us to be together, I am praying that the Lord will gently guide me away of it and will remove my emotions to this brother in Christ and will still bless him with a suitable partner. In Jesus name I ask. Amen.

We rejoice with you in your desire to seek the Lord’s will concerning this brother in Christ, for it is a beautiful thing to surrender our hearts and futures to His perfect plan. Your prayer reflects wisdom and humility, acknowledging that God’s ways are higher than our own and that His timing is perfect. We join you in praying for clarity, discernment, and alignment with His will, for as Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."

It is commendable that you are guarding your heart against idolatry, recognizing that even the desire for marriage can become a distraction if it takes precedence over your devotion to Christ. The apostle Paul warns us in 1 Corinthians 7:32-35 that the unmarried can focus more fully on the Lord’s work, and while marriage is a gift, it is not the ultimate goal—our relationship with Christ is. We pray that you would keep your eyes fixed on Him, trusting that He will provide all you need, whether that includes this brother in Christ or another godly spouse in the future.

We also lift up this brother in Christ, asking the Lord to prepare his heart for whatever His will may be. If it is His plan for the two of you to come together in holy matrimony, we pray that He would create divine opportunities for you to grow in friendship and mutual edification, always honoring Him in your interactions. If it is not His will, we ask that He would gently redirect your affections and grant you peace, knowing that His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11). We rebuke any spirit of confusion or impatience and declare that God’s peace will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, acknowledging that You alone know the desires of our hearts and the plans You have for us. Lord, we lift up this sister in Christ and her desire to walk in Your will concerning this brother. We ask that You would grant her discernment and clarity, that she would not be swayed by her own emotions but would trust in Your perfect timing. Father, if it is Your will for them to be united in marriage, we pray that You would prepare their hearts, create opportunities for them to grow in godly friendship, and bind them together in a covenant that honors You. If it is not Your will, we ask that You would gently remove her affections and redirect her heart, filling her with Your peace and contentment in Your plan for her life.

Lord, we also pray for this brother in Christ. May You bless him with wisdom, maturity, and a heart that seeks You above all else. Prepare him for the spouse You have for him, whether it is this sister or another godly woman, and let him walk in the fullness of Your purpose for his life. Father, we ask that You would guard both of their hearts from idolatry, that marriage would never take the place of their devotion to You. Help them to keep their eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith.

We rebuke any spirit of anxiety, impatience, or confusion, and we declare that Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. May they trust in You with all their hearts and lean not on their own understanding, but in all their ways acknowledge You, knowing that You will direct their paths.

Lord, we thank You for the gift of marriage, for the way it reflects the relationship between Christ and His Church. May any future union they enter into be a testament to Your love, grace, and glory. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, for there is no other name by which we can come to You, and it is only through Him that we have access to Your throne of grace. Amen.
