Disciple of Prayer
I am interested in a brother in Christ at church, and I am praying the Lord, if it is his will, to create opportunities for us to get to know each other more and for discernment and clarity on what God's will is for our lives. I am also praying for the will of my heart to align with God's will and to trust the Lord with my heart and future marriage, and for Him to help me not to invest too much time thinking about it or idolizing marriage. If this is not the Lord's will for us to be together, I am praying that the Lord will gently guide me away of it and will remove my emotions to this brother in Christ and will still bless him with a suitable partner. In Jesus name I ask. Amen.

We hear your heart’s sincere desire to seek the Lord’s will in this matter, and we join you in prayer, lifting this brother in Christ and your own heart before the throne of grace. Your request reflects a beautiful posture of surrender—trusting God with your future, aligning your desires with His, and guarding against idolatry. This is the kind of wisdom and humility that honors the Lord, and we praise Him for your willingness to submit even your deepest longings to His perfect plan.

The Scriptures remind us, *"Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart"* (Psalm 37:4). This promise is not a guarantee that God will give you *any* desire, but that as you delight in Him first, He will shape your desires to align with His. It is good and right to pray for clarity and discernment, for the Lord delights in guiding His children. *"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths"* (Proverbs 3:5-6). Your prayer for God to gently redirect you if this brother is not His will for you is evidence of a heart that truly seeks to follow Christ above all else.

We also appreciate your awareness of the temptation to idolize marriage or this brother in your thoughts. The enemy often distorts good desires—like companionship and love—into obsessions that pull our focus away from Christ. Jesus warned, *"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also"* (Matthew 6:21). If we treasure anything—even a godly marriage—above our relationship with Him, it becomes an idol. We pray that the Lord would continue to guard your heart from this, that you would find your ultimate satisfaction in Him alone, and that any future marriage would be a reflection of His glory, not a replacement for it.

As you seek the Lord’s will, we encourage you to pursue this brother in a way that honors God and maintains purity. If the Lord is indeed leading you toward marriage, let your interactions be marked by godly intentionality—seeking wisdom from mature believers, observing his character in different settings, and allowing time for the Holy Spirit to confirm His leading. Courtship, not casual dating, should be the goal, with marriage as the clear and biblical objective. *"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?"* (2 Corinthians 6:14). While this brother is in Christ, the principle of godly partnership still applies—you must both be walking in step with the Spirit, pursuing holiness, and aligned in your vision for a Christ-centered marriage.

We also want to gently remind you that emotional attachment can cloud discernment. It is wise to guard your heart (Proverbs 4:23) and not allow your feelings to outpace the Lord’s leading. If this brother is not the one God has for you, we pray that the Lord would indeed remove those emotions in a way that brings peace, not bitterness. And if he *is* the one, we pray that the Lord would confirm it clearly and prepare you both for a marriage that reflects Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33).

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, acknowledging that You alone know the plans You have for us—plans for welfare and not for evil, to give us a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Lord, we lift up this sister and this brother in Christ to You. We ask that You would create divine opportunities for them to get to know one another if it is Your will, and that You would grant them both wisdom and discernment to recognize Your leading. Father, we pray that You would align their desires with Yours, that their hearts would be fully surrendered to Your perfect plan.

Lord, we ask that You would protect this sister’s heart from idolatry. Help her to find her ultimate joy and satisfaction in You alone, that no earthly relationship would take Your place in her affections. If this brother is not the one You have for her, we pray that You would gently remove her emotions and redirect her heart toward Your purposes. If he *is* the one, we pray that You would prepare them both for a marriage that honors You, where they can serve You together as one flesh.

Father, we also pray for this brother. If he is to be her husband, we ask that You would mature him in his faith, grow him in godliness, and prepare his heart to lead a family according to Your Word. If he is not the one, we pray that You would bless him with a godly wife who will walk alongside him in faith. Lord, we trust You with their futures, knowing that You are good and that Your plans are perfect.

We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the only name by which we can come to You. It is through His sacrifice that we have access to Your throne, and it is by His blood that we are saved. We thank You, Lord, for the gift of salvation and for the privilege of bringing our requests before You. May Your will be done in this situation, and may Your name be glorified. Amen.

We're right there with you, sister, standing in faith for your future and the will of God to unfold in your life. It's beautiful to see your heart so open and yielded to the Lord's leading. We echo the Scriptures shared earlier, especially Proverbs 3:5-6, trusting that as you acknowledge Him in all your ways, He will make your paths straight.

We also want to encourage you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). As you seek clarity and discernment, remember that God often speaks through His Word, wise counsel, and the peace of the Holy Spirit. Be patient with yourself and the process, knowing that God's timing is perfect.

Let's continue to pray together:

Dear Lord, we lift up this sister to You, trusting that You have a perfect plan for her life. We ask that You would give her clarity and discernment regarding this brother in Christ. If it is Your will for them to be together, we pray that You would create opportunities for them to grow in their relationship with each other and with You. We also ask that You would guard her heart, helping her to keep her focus on You and Your will above all else.

If this brother is not the one You have for her, we pray that You would gently guide her away from this path, removing any emotions that may cloud her judgment. We trust that You will still bless this brother with a suitable partner, and that You will continue to bless and use both of their lives for Your glory.

We ask all of this in Jesus' name, believing that Your will is good, pleasing, and perfect. Help us to rest in Your love and care, knowing that You are working all things together for our good and Your glory. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
