Prayer for healing
We hear your cry of pain and we join together with you in prayer for your healing, thanking God that you have come to Him in faith in the name of Jesus Christ. It is so encouraging to see your belief that He is able to heal you and free you from this swelling and pain, for He is the God who hears us when we call upon the name of His Son.
We are reminded of His promises to His people, that He forgives all our sins and heals all our diseases as written in Psalm 103:2-3, and that by His wounds we are healed as written in Isaiah 53:5. He declares I am Yahweh who heals you in Exodus 15:26, and But I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh in Jeremiah 30:17. When we are sick we are also encouraged to pray in faith, for Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up in James 5:14-15.
We also encourage you to continue to follow the wisdom and care of medical doctors while you trust the Lord for your healing, to rest, stay hydrated, and allow your body time to recover from both the pelvic inflammatory disease and now the mumps. God often works through the hands of physicians and through our obedience to care for the bodies He has given us, and we pray He gives your doctors wisdom.

Father in heaven, we lift up Your child to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. You see the pain and the swelling on both sides of the cheek, You know the suffering from the mumps and the recent affliction of PID, and You know every discomfort. Your prayer for healing has been heard and we join our hearts with yours before the throne of grace. To be afflicted with such pain and swelling, first with PID and now with mumps on both sides of the cheek, is a heavy burden, and the Lord who is the feeder of sparrows does not pass you over in your suffering.
We very speedily care for bodily diseases for they are too painful to let us slumber, and you have done well to tell your case to Jesus just as you would mention a physical case to a doctor. He is our heavenly Physician, and Calvary is the place for the healing balm. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is full of healing virtue. When the Sun of Righteousness rises upon His people there is healing in His wings, and pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction.
We pray that you would know both. The Lord who forgives all our iniquities is He who heals all our diseases, and He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds. Bring your body and your soul to Him, for His healing changes the life blood and makes the nature other than it was before, and His salvation will at last perfectly heal our bodies.
Do not wonder if recovery should be slow. You may be crushed in a moment, but you cannot so speedily be cured, and the man that long has tossed upon the weary bed of pain does not at once run and leap as before. As you grow a little stronger and a little stronger, acknowledge in each increase of strength that the Lord has a new claim upon your affection. Use the means He has provided, rest and follow the counsel of the physician, and look to Christ who took our infirmities and who lifted the fevered one by the hand.

Your prayer for healing has been received and we are joining with you in bringing your pain before the Lord. To face one illness and then another so quickly, with pain and swelling on both sides of your face, is very difficult, and we are praying for God's mercy and comfort for you right now.
We believe strongly that God heals. Scripture shows that Jesus has power over the physical realm. He touched the leper, He healed the servant of the centurion, He lifted Peter's mother in law from her fever, and when crowds came to Him in the evening He healed many who were sick and oppressed. Matthew tells us this was in fulfillment of what was spoken through Isaiah, that He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. When Jesus gave Himself for us, His body was broken for us, and that work reaches to our spiritual need and also to our physical need. We come to Him with confidence because He used His power not for Himself but with compassion for others who were suffering.
At the same time the Bible teaches us that healing comes in many ways. Sometimes it is immediate, sometimes it is gradual. There is only one record of a gradual healing in the ministry of Jesus, but we see that God has built healing processes into our bodies. Those natural processes are still divine, because the One who created nature created those processes. Any true healing is from Him, whether it comes in a moment or step by step. We can thank Him for the wisdom He gives to doctors and for the body's ability to recover, and we can keep asking Him to work, trusting that He is the source of all healing.
We also acknowledge that there is much about healing we do not fully understand. Scripture is honest that not every prayer for immediate relief is answered in the way we hope. Paul prayed three times for the Lord to remove a painful thorn in his flesh, and the Lord's answer was to give grace to endure and to show His strength in weakness. The gifts of healing are real, but they are distributed among the members of the body as God wills, not every person has the same gift, and we cannot presume to dictate how or when God will act. That does not weaken our faith, it teaches us to pray with both boldness and trust in His wisdom and love.
There is also a close connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. The Scriptures speak of a joyful heart being like good medicine, and experience confirms that peace, hope, and trust before the Lord affect our physical well being. We pray not only for your body to be relieved of pain and swelling, but for your mind and heart to be guarded with peace as you wait on Him. Even when we look only at what is seen, circumstances can feel overwhelming, but faith looks to what is not seen, to the unseen spiritual reality that God is present, He cares, and He is working for good.
So we pray with you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one who is suffering from recent illness and now mumps, with pain and swelling. You know the discomfort and the weariness. We ask that You would touch this body, ease the pain, reduce the swelling, and bring a speedy and complete recovery according to Your will. Grant wisdom to those providing care, grant patience and strength in the days of waiting, and fill the heart with Your peace and assurance.
