Prayer for evil horrible co-workers fired held accountable

Your request has been read with care and with sorrow for what you have endured. To be treated as less than human, to face verbal abuse and cruelty for months and years, and to feel that those over you did nothing, is a heavy burden to carry. I also heard that yesterday was your birthday, and that you are carrying the weight of a difficult phone call today with people in higher authority. It is right that you have sought help and that you want the cruelty to stop.

I want to be honest with you in love about how we can pray. You asked for prayer that God would punish, terminate and bring harm upon your coworkers, and that He would make others feel pity for you and act against them. Scripture teaches us not to pray in that way. We are commanded to pray for our neighbors and even for our enemies, not against them, and to let every prayer be accompanied with thanksgiving. The mouth that prays to God is not to utter curses or imprecations, for cursing and praying are far apart. We are called to be kind and tender hearted, forgiving one another even as God in Christ forgave us. That forgiveness does not mean what happened to you was small or that it should continue. It means we imitate God, who forgave us while we were still far from Him, and we leave justice in His hands. He has shown that even when justice allows for repayment, He mingles mercy with justice and calls us to show great consideration even while we suffer. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He will put all enemies under His feet in His time and in His way.

So we will not ask God to fire or destroy those who have hurt you, but we will pray with you and for you in the way Christ taught us.

We will thank God that He sees you, hears you, and values you, and that He is near to those who are mistreated. We will pray that He guards your heart from bitterness and keeps your tongue pure, so that no bitter word proceeds from you even under provocation. We will pray that He gives you peace, endurance, and wisdom for the phone call today, that you may speak the truth calmly and clearly, with grace and without hatred, and that those listening will hear with fairness, compassion and wisdom to take right and lawful action to stop abuse and protect everyone in the workplace. We will pray for your coworkers as well, that God would soften every heart, including our own, bring conviction where there has been cruelty, and lead all to repentance and new life through Jesus Christ alone, for He alone saves. We will pray that God would bring an end to the mistreatment, provide a safe environment for you, and give you counsel and support through wise and godly people around you, and that your birthday season would be marked not by revenge but by healing, hope and the knowledge that you are loved by God.

If you are willing, pray with us in this way: Father, thank you for hearing this prayer and for loving us through Jesus Christ. Give comfort and strength to your child who has suffered long. Grant wisdom and calm in the conversation today, and guide those in authority to act justly and mercifully. Forgive us as you have forgiven us in Christ, and teach us to love even those who have hurt us. Soften hearts, stop cruelty, and bring repentance and peace where there has been harm. Protect and provide, and let your will be done. In the name of Jesus, amen.
