Prayer for a full time Job

Your request reflects a deep disappointment and it is heard. To train and qualify as a nurse, to begin that work with hope, and then to face a group of people reporting you until the workplace became sad and difficult, and finally to feel you had to leave, is a heavy burden. To then struggle to find another full time position adds to that weight, and it is understandable that you feel discouraged and question what happened.

The story of Job speaks to this kind of pain even though cultures and times have changed. That book is one of the oldest in the Bible and it deals with the deepest issues of life that people still face today. The background given there is important for you. God himself bore witness that Job was a blameless and upright man who feared God and turned away from evil. At the same time, the adversary had been watching Job closely, studying him and forming a view that Job only served God because God had placed a hedge of blessing around him and made him prosper.

When that hedge was tested and Job lost so much, three friends came to comfort him. But when they saw his suffering they did not comfort him well. Instead they began to rebuke him. They assumed that suffering must mean hidden sin. They told him he must be a hypocrite, that he had forgotten God, that he needed to get right with God and then all would be well. They pressed him with accusations that were not true. In the end God corrected those friends and showed that their counsel was wrong.

That pattern can help you as you process what happened at work. Being reported by others does not automatically mean you are guilty or that God is displeased with you. People can speak against someone even when that person has sought to do what is right. Job himself did not understand his circumstances and he cried out in grief that felt heavier than the sand of the sea. He did not curse God, but he honestly said he did not understand what God was doing. You may feel that same confusion, and God allows that honest cry.

What remains true through that confusion is that God is fair and just. He is not absent. Scripture shows that God is at work even when it appears He has forsaken us. He saw Job's integrity when others did not, and He sees yours. He knows the effort you gave to qualify, the care you tried to give as a nurse, the hurt of being misrepresented, and the anxiety of searching for work without success yet.

Jesus is the answer to Job's longing for someone to stand between God and man, to lay a hand on both and bring us near to God. Through Him you can come directly to the Father with your grief and your need for provision.

May the Lord lift this weight from you, heal the wound left by those accusations, and guard your heart from believing that their words define you. May He open a door for stable, full time work where your training can be used well and where you are treated with respect, and may He provide for your daily needs while you wait. May He give you patience as Job was given patience, and may He show you in time that He has not forgotten you and that He is still working for your good.

You are prayed for, that you will know God's nearness, His justice, and His provision in the days ahead.
