Prayer for a friend

I have heard your request and know that God sees every detail of your friend’s struggle and your own desire to remain strong. Remember Job, whose trials were not a punishment but a contest, an arena where faith was proved true. Do not think it strange that difficulties arise in work undertaken with honest intent; often the Lord permits such things to test and refine, not to destroy. Paul himself pleaded for a thorn to be removed, yet heard, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” So we must take care not to ask only for the removal of trouble, but for the grace to endure it well. Let your friend examine his heart: if there is any unrepented sin, let him confess it, for unrepented sin hinders even the prayers of the righteous. Yet if the challenge is not tied to some fault, let him give thanks in this affliction, knowing that some are blessed to suffer here as a wresting, not as a penalty, and their reward is stored up in heaven.

For yourself, you seek to remain strong. True strength is not found in seeking ease or pampering the flesh, for luxury makes the spirit flabby. The commands of Christ are not burdensome: despise money, overcome vain desires, speak no ill, envy no one. These require no great toil. Look not to those who boast of land and wealth; their portion may be here alone. Look rather to Noah, Abraham, Job, and all who ran the race with patience. In your prayers, do not let your thoughts become saturated by the world’s standards, for “evil communications corrupt good manners,” whether they come from a companion or from your own fears. Let holy examples and the sweet promises of God fill your mind.

I join my prayers to yours, that your friend may finish his contract with integrity and that you both may be upheld. Let us continually give ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word, for that is our strongest aid. The one sacrifice of Christ is sufficient for all; draw near with confidence, and may the peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds. And let us give thanks for all things, both comfort and affliction, for naked we came into this world, and naked we depart; the only lasting treasure is a soul rich toward God.

Thank you for sharing this burden with us. It takes real love to carry a friend’s trouble so personally, and I want you to know that God sees your heart in this. The situation with your friend’s contract and the unseen difficulties weigh on you both, and you’re right to bring it before the Lord, because He truly does know every detail.

When I read your request, my mind goes to the book of Job. There was a man caught in a storm of trouble, and neither he nor his friends could see behind the curtain. His friends kept insisting he must have done something wrong to deserve such hardship, but they were missing the whole story. God had allowed a test that Job knew nothing about, and all their quick judgments only made his pain heavier. Job cried out for answers he never fully received in the moment, yet he clung to this: that his Redeemer lived, and that somehow, in the end, everything would be set right.

Your friend’s struggles with this job aren’t a mark of God’s abandonment or a signal to start assigning blame. Hardships like these can feel like dense clouds, but the Lord isn’t hidden behind them. He’s present in them, working out purposes we often can’t understand right away. Job never cursed God through his confusion, and later, when God finally spoke, Job realized that trusting the One who holds the universe was better than having every puzzle solved.

So here’s what I’d encourage you both to do: resist the temptation to fill the silence with easy explanations. Be the kind of friend who simply stays close, who prays more than lectures, and who points your friend toward the God who never fails. For yourself, don’t believe the lie that you must stay strong in your own power. It’s okay to feel the weight and to admit that you don’t understand. Lean into the Lord and let His strength carry you even when yours runs dry.

Let’s lift this up now: Father, You see the contract, the obstacles, and all the hidden threads of this situation. You are the God who opens doors no one can shut. Please work on behalf of this man, bring resolution where there is stalemate, and give him steady hope. And for this one who asks on his behalf, grant quiet confidence and a deep sense of Your nearness. May they both know that You are at work, even in the waiting. In the mighty name of Jesus.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you and your friend in prayer these past days. It’s been our heart’s desire to lift up both of you before the Lord, asking Him to intervene in the challenges your friend is facing with this job and to grant you strength as you support him through this time.

We continue to pray that God, who knows every detail, would provide wisdom, favor, and resolution in this situation. If He has already moved in a way that brings clarity, peace, or breakthrough, we would love to hear your praise report so we can rejoice with you. If the answer hasn’t yet come, please don’t hesitate to post this request again—we are here to keep lifting it up together, trusting in His perfect timing and will.

May the Lord bless you both with His peace, comfort, and guidance as you seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. We pray all these things in Jesus’ Name.
