Prayer for a friend of my dad

### has a friend who struggles with substance abuse and a drinking problem. They also want to join a latter day saints church (which I don't think is good because they don't believe Jesus is God, but it could help them) I think she is a nice lady but she really needs help, please pray for her.

We lift up this dear woman before the throne of grace, asking the Lord to break the chains of substance abuse and alcohol that bind her. The Word of God tells us, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed" (Luke 4:18 WEB). Father, we claim this promise over her life, set her free from the grip of addiction and restore her mind, body, and spirit.

We also come against the deception that would lead her toward a church that denies the divinity of Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB), and Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6 WEB). Lord, open her eyes to the truth of who Christ is, the Son of God, fully God and fully man, the only Savior of the world. Protect her from false teachings that would lead her astray, and draw her to a Bible-believing church where she can grow in the true knowledge of Christ.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name and command it to leave her life. We pray for godly influences to surround her, believers who will walk with her in love, accountability, and truth. Father, if she does not yet know You as her Lord and Savior, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to her in a powerful way. Let her experience Your love, Your forgiveness, and Your transforming power. May she turn to You with all her heart, surrendering her struggles and her future into Your hands.

We pray for strength for her family and friends as they support her. Give them wisdom, patience, and compassion as they point her to Christ. And Lord, if it be Your will, lead her to a community of believers who will disciple her, pray for her, and help her walk in freedom.

Heavenly Father, we trust You to do what only You can do. Break every chain, heal every wound, and restore what has been lost. May she come to know You not just as a helper, but as her Savior and King. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this with us, it's clear you care deeply about this lady, and we're grateful for the chance to lift her up together. It is painful watching someone you know struggle with addiction, and we can hear the conflicted heart in your words about the church she’s considering. That tension makes sense; you want her to get real help, and you’re right that true, lasting freedom is found only in Jesus, fully God and fully man.

We’ll be praying that God surrounds her with people who will love her steadily while pointing her toward genuine healing. Many communities offer Christ-centered recovery programs like Celebrate Recovery, places where people walk alongside each other through the deep roots of addiction without compromising who Jesus is. Your dad might gently let her know such a group exists, not as a push, but as an open door.

In the meantime, you’re already giving her the best gift: prayer and genuine concern. That steady kindness is a lifeline for someone in the grip of substance abuse. We can trust the Lord to work in His timing, even while we ache for change now.

Lord, we bring this dear woman to You. You know her pain, her weariness, and the lies addiction tells her. Guard her from harm, give her moments of clarity, and raise up safe, truthful Christian friends around her. We ask that any path she takes would ultimately lead her to the real Jesus, the One who is God with us, able to break every chain. Give her father courage and wisdom to keep showing Your love without burning out. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

A soul ensnared by strong drink and substance abuse is indeed going down to the pit, and the terror of that descent must awaken our deepest compassion. Yet the relief she seeks in a latter-day church that denies the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ is no deliverance at all, but a snare of another kind. That system cannot bring her to the true God, for if they worship not Jesus as the eternal I AM, their gospel is hollow and their sanctuary a refuge of lies. To exchange one bondage for another, swapping the bottle for a priesthood that cannot save, is to heal the wound slightly. We must pity slaves of priest-craft, and we would not wear their chains for all the wealth of India. Let us pray fervently that this woman will not be led into a false peace that leaves her soul just as shackled, and her sins just as unforgiven.

But there is a Deliverer! God Himself has found a ransom. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from its guilt. If she will truly seek the Lord, the Lord Jesus of the Scriptures, very God of very God, who came in the flesh and poured out His blood for sinners, then she shall find Him. His promise stands sure: “Thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” The thirst that drives her to the cup can be quenched forever at that life-giving stream, for “I came to Jesus, and I drank of that life-giving stream; my thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him.” That is the true remedy, and no church that strips Christ of His divine glory can administer it.

Pray earnestly that her seeking may not settle on a counterfeit, for many seek peace afar off when it is near them in the finished work of Christ. She is dearly loved by the Father, who would have her turn from every false hope and every destructive appetite. Perhaps the very misery of her present state will be the means of her conversion; the Lord can use even the enemy’s malice to chasten her to Himself. When wondrous grace lifts her from the mire and sets her feet upon the Rock, she will not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. Let us therefore besiege the throne for this precious soul, that she may be translated from the power of darkness into the kingdom of God’s dear Son, and know the freedom of those whom the Son makes free indeed.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

I am grieved to hear of this woman’s struggle with drink and substance, for these are chains of the most grievous slavery. The Lord spoke of a bondage far worse than any earthly captivity, the bondage of sin, from which only God can deliver. You do well to pray for her, and indeed we will entreat the Lord with you. Yet let us not imagine that any assembly which denies the eternal divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ can offer true freedom. What good is a shelter that is itself built on sand? The Son is not a creature nor a mere prophet, but the brightness of the Father’s glory, co-eternal and of one substance with Him. To turn aside from this truth is to turn from the very fountain of life.

Pray, then, not only for her release from the tyranny of substances, but for the eyes of her understanding to be opened. Ask the Lord to send someone to speak the word of truth to her, the word that declares Jesus is God, the only Savior. She needs a careful hearing of the gospel, that faith may take root: faith, which is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Without this faith, reform of outward habits is but a frail and temporary plaster.

Bear witness to her with love that does not seek its own, is not provoked, and does not behave unseemly. Yet do not affirm what leads away from the truth, however pleasant it may seem. The true deliverance from all bondage is found at the table of the Lord, where His body and blood are given for the remission of sins. May He grant her mercy in that day of need, and bring her into the one fold of the true Shepherd. Let us not cease to pray.
