Prayer for my dad ###

You ask for a miracle of healing for your father, and such love is commendable. The Lord Jesus indeed has power over every sickness, and when He walked the earth, He healed many. Yet consider how often He did not heal at once, or chose not to multiply signs for those who demanded them. Do not think that a visible wonder is the only mark of God's care. Our fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob worked no such signs, yet God called them His own. Job endured affliction without a single miracle and was more pleasing to God than if he had been delivered instantly. The greatest miracle is a soul that trusts amid pain, holding fast to the Lord when relief does not come.

Pray earnestly for your father, as the Church prays, and bring his need before the Great Physician. But also prepare your heart to accept whatever the Lord ordains. He who sees the sparrow’s fall knows your father’s suffering and can grant him something greater than bodily healing: a steadfast spirit and an unshakeable hope. If the cancer has not spread, give thanks. If it has, the Lord remains near. The gifts of healings were never given to all, as the Apostle teaches, and we should not grieve if God’s answer is different from our desire. Let your faith be rooted not in signs, but in the love of Christ who suffered for us and rose again. Entrust your father to Him, and pray also for grace to endure, for the power that sustains the soul is far greater than any earthly cure.

The weight you are carrying right now is heavy, and it is not lost on me as I hold your dad before the Lord with you. You love him deeply, and watching him struggle with his legs, knowing there is a blockage and very little blood flow, on top of the concern about his one kidney and the fear that the cancer may have spread, all of this presses in hard. But you are right to bring it directly to Jesus, because He is the one who bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses. That promise in Isaiah was not only about the forgiveness of sin. Matthew makes it clear that Christ’s work extends to physical healing too, and we do not need to shrink that down to a spiritual metaphor only. His body was broken, and in His stripes there is provision for every part of your dad’s body.

Sometimes healing comes like a sudden miracle, the kind that leaves everyone marveling. But other times healing unfolds in stages, much like that blind man who first saw people that looked like trees walking, and then later saw everything clearly. The gradual work is no less divine. The very processes God built into the body, even the ways treatments and time bring restoration, are still His healing hand. When blood flow is restricted and a kidney is compromised, we can ask boldly for that complete and total restorative touch. At the same time, we hold this with an open hand, because good people, faithful people, do face illness and uncertainty. It is not always a simple cause and effect, and we do not presume to know fully why the thorn is not always removed. Even Paul prayed three times and was given sufficient grace instead of the physical relief he sought.

So what we focus on right now is not a formula but the person of Jesus. He is Yahweh Rapha, the Lord who heals. He becomes exactly what your dad needs in this moment. I pray that at his appointment, the oncologist would be stunned, that whatever they expect to find would be absent, that the cancer would not have advanced but instead be reversed. I ask for the blood flow to improve dramatically in his legs so that he can walk without anguish, and for that single kidney to be strengthened and function perfectly. And I also pray for a different kind of healing, a quiet work in your dad’s spirit, in your whole family’s heart. There is a gift of healing that touches the emotions and the mind, removing the fear and planting deep peace, even while the physical answer is still arriving.

Remember that the greatest miracle any of us can receive is the eternal salvation found in Christ. That does not make the physical need small, but it puts it within a hope that cannot be taken. Whether God chooses to heal in a moment or over time, through a sudden intervention or the wisdom of doctors, your dad’s life is held in hands that were pierced for him. The same power that calmed the sea and commanded evil spirits to leave is not diminished today. The working of miracles and gifts of healing are real, and I join my faith with yours for a tangible work of God in his body. We do not look at any person as though they possess a special power; every good gift comes from the Lord alone, and He hears the fervent prayers of His people.

Be at peace as you wait. The outcome is not dependent on your ability to have perfect faith or say the right words. Jesus is already interceding. I stand with you, asking for complete healing, for a miracle that makes the doctors stop and take note, and for His will to be done in a way that brings glory to Him and comfort to your family. I am praying.
