Pray for ###

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Please pray for me. I have asked many times that you pray my husband of ### years would quit drinking. Be forced to quit drinking. He is the most mentally emotionally abusive person when he drinks. He is pure evil. Tonight he took it a step further. I really think I need to divorce him. Please pray for me. If he can stop drinking pray I would gather the strength to keave now. Give me a golden opportunity to leave. Show me a lighted path father and get me out of here. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

We hear your cry, dear sister in Christ, and we lift you up with heavy hearts before the throne of grace. The pain and fear you describe are real, and no one should endure such torment in their own home. Scripture tells us, "The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit." (Psalm 34:18) You are not alone, and God sees every tear you’ve shed.

First, we must rebuke the spirit of addiction and abuse in your husband’s life. Alcohol has no place in a home where Christ is Lord, and it has clearly opened the door to sinful behavior that grieves the Holy Spirit. The Bible warns, "Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company corrupts good morals.’ Wake up, you drunkard, and weep! Wail, all you drinkers of wine, because of the sweet wine; for it is cut off from your mouth." (1 Corinthians 15:33-34) We pray that God would break the chains of this addiction and bring your husband to true repentance, not just from the bottle, but from the cruelty it fuels.

Yet we must also address the hard truth: God hates divorce (Malachi 2:16), but He also hates abuse. The marriage covenant is sacred, but it was never meant to be a prison of suffering. If your husband refuses to change, if he continues to choose alcohol and abuse over Christ and his vows, then the Bible allows for separation in cases of unrepentant sin (1 Corinthians 7:15). You are not called to endure evil indefinitely. "God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." (2 Timothy 1:7) We pray for wisdom to know when to stay and when to go, and for the courage to act when the time comes.

Father, we ask You to intervene in this marriage. If there is still hope for redemption, soften this man’s heart, convict him of his sin, and lead him to repentance. But if he remains hardened, Lord, we ask for a clear, unmistakable path for our sister to leave safely. Provide her with the resources, support, and strength she needs. Open doors no man can shut, and let her walk through them with peace. Surround her with godly counsel, protect her heart from bitterness, and remind her daily that she is precious in Your sight.

We also pray for protection over you, sister. The enemy would love to see you trapped in despair, but God has a future for you, one of hope and healing. "The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul." (Psalm 121:5-7) Trust in Him to guide your steps, and lean not on your own understanding.

Lastly, we urge you to seek godly counsel, whether through a pastor, a trusted Christian friend, or a biblical counselor. You do not have to navigate this alone. The body of Christ is here to support you, and God’s Word is your anchor. "Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved." (Psalm 55:22)

We stand with you in prayer, believing that God will make a way where there seems to be no way. May He fill you with His peace that surpasses all understanding, and may you feel His presence walking beside you every step of the journey. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

You’ve been living under an unbearable weight for so long, and we are so sorry. The cruelty you describe, the twisting of your husband’s heart when he drinks, the attacks on your worth, is not something you must simply endure. What you are experiencing is real and wrong, and your desire for a path of safety and peace is not a failure of faithfulness; it’s a cry that God Himself hears.

We want to offer you something concrete. Right now, the most urgent thing is not to navigate this alone. Reaching out to someone with training in domestic abuse can help you think through next steps calmly and safely. A crisis advocate or a local domestic violence helpline can talk with you confidentially about your situation, help you plan for your safety (even if you aren’t sure when or how you might leave), and give you a steady voice in the chaos. You can find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. Additionally, if you have a trusted pastor or Christian counselor who understands the dynamics of abuse, please consider contacting them. You do not need to figure out a “golden opportunity” by yourself; gathering wise support is itself a step God can light for you.

We also want you to know that your sense of self has been battered, but it is not destroyed. The woman who wrote this prayer is still fighting, still calling out to Jesus. That takes enormous courage. Healing can happen, even if your husband never changes, and it doesn’t require you to stay in harm’s way. Please hold onto that: your safety, your clarity, and your welfare matter deeply to the Lord.

Let us pray with you now.

Jesus, we bring our sister before You. You see every tear, every night of terror, every time her heart has been crushed. We ask You to surround her with a shield of Your protection and to give her wisdom far beyond her own. Steady her mind when confusion swamps her. Send her helpers, people who will listen without judgment and walk with her practically. Shine a clear light on whatever steps she needs to take, and give her the strength to take them, not in her own power but in Yours. Align her circumstances to open a safe door, and grant her deep, unshakeable peace as she moves forward. We also ask for her husband, that You would break the chains of his addiction and the evil that fuels his cruelty, and that You would do whatever is needed to bring him to true repentance and change. But first, protect her and lead her to a place of refuge. In Your mighty name, Amen.

The depths of your anguish are known to the God who sees and hears. When a husband becomes a vessel of cruelty rather than a source of shelter, the heart cries out for deliverance, and that cry rises to the throne of the Most High. He is the Husband of His people, faithful when human vows shatter into shards. The Lord who led Israel out of Egypt’s iron furnace still breaks chains today. His arm is not shortened. In your weakness, His strength is made perfect; when your own cistern runs dry, the fountain of His power has no bottom. He does not merely feel compassion from afar, He draws near, and in Christ Jesus He knows the sorrow of betrayal and the sting of those who should love but instead wound.

A marriage covenant is sacred, lifelong, and not to be cast aside for any light cause. Yet the Lord never commands you to remain in the path of destruction when a spouse turns into a raging adversary. For your own safety, body and soul, separating from that which is “pure evil” in its drunkenness is no sin. To flee from the lion’s mouth is wisdom, not unfaithfulness. While divorce is a last and sorrowful resort, you are not bound to sit passively while cruelty escalates. Seek a place of refuge, a shelter where the blows of words cannot reach, and let time and godly counsel test whether the man will yet bow before conviction.

Do not try to muster this strength from your own exhausted spirit. Every human resource will fail; it has to. But the Lord is the glory of your strength, He enters the arena when you have no more fight, carries you when your knees buckle, and lights the path when all around is midnight. This promise is not for the self-sufficient; it is for the broken, the fearful, the one who whispers, “I cannot, I have nothing left.” That is exactly where He steps in. Lay hold of His able arm. Ask, as the disciples did, for increased faith, faith to forgive seventy times seven if real repentance ever dawns, and faith to know what obedience requires of you this very hour: to safeguard the life God gave you.

Pray without ceasing for that man. At times, Grace melts adamantine hearts with a sovereign “I will” that overpowers the stubborn will. He who turned the heart of Nebuchadnezzar can sober a raging spirit in a day. But your first duty is not to fix him; it is to hide yourself under the shadow of the Almighty while He works. Look for the golden opportunity you pleaded for, and trust that the Good Shepherd will lead you out when the door opens. The path of life Christ trod passed through agony, but it ended at the right hand of the Father, in pleasures forevermore. He will show you the path, step by step, as your days, so shall your strength be. Do not dread the morrow; the all-dissolving acid of sin may have marred your earthly comfort, but the healing leaves of Heaven are for such wounds as yours, and the tree of life stands on either side of the river. Your safety is not in your own grip, but in Him who is able to keep you from falling. Rest there. He will present you faultless before His presence with exceeding joy, and even now, in the furnace, He walks beside you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your plea reaches the throne of God, and your tears are not hidden from Him. The torment you endure at the hands of a drunken husband is a grievous trial, for as Scripture makes plain, the marriage bond is a lifelong covenant: the woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. Yet this does not mean you are without recourse or comfort. The evil you describe is not of your doing, and the Lord sees the abuse you suffer. Remember, the husband is meant to be the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the Church and its Savior, not its destroyer. When a man becomes, as you say, pure evil in his cups, he has abandoned that holy charge and brought dishonor to his own body.

Pray without ceasing for his deliverance from this demon of drink, for nothing is impossible with God. At the same time, guard your heart against despair. If he will not turn from his wickedness, you must seek safety, not in rebellion against God's law, but in the wisdom that preserves life. The path lighted for you is not to rush into another marriage while he lives, that would be adultery, as the Apostle teaches, but to find refuge in the shelter of the Church, among the sober-minded, with prayer and fasting. Cry out to the Lord to break the snare that binds him, and if your leaving for a season under the protection of godly counsel awakens him to repentance, then may God be praised. Your strength will come not from plotting escape, but from clinging to Christ, who enables souls to despise even the fear of death. Let your adornment be meekness, not worldly scheming, so that even an unbelieving abuser might be won without a word by your chaste conduct. But do not remain in the path of violence: withdraw as flight of the body, not divorce of the heart, while you entreat heaven for his soul. May the Lord rebuke the evil spirit in him and grant you the peace that surpasses understanding.

Your pain is real, and God sees the darkness that has invaded your home. The drinking itself is not the root, it is a doorway to cruelty that no wife should ever have to endure. When you say he becomes pure evil in those hours, you are naming something that grieves the heart of God, who created marriage to be a shelter of mutual love and honor. Scripture gives the husband one great command: to love his wife as Christ loved the church, giving himself for her. A man who terrorizes his wife with words and actions has abandoned that calling, and no plea for submission can force you to accept abuse or to violate your conscience before God. If your husband is requiring you to live in an atmosphere of fear and degradation, you are not bound to stay and passively absorb what is wicked.

I cannot urge you to divorce quickly or lightly. Marriage is a lifelong covenant, and the wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. Jesus himself taught that from the beginning it was not so, divorce was never God’s ideal. Yet the Scriptures also make provision for hard hearts and unbearable conditions. A wife who departs should remain unmarried or be reconciled, and that path allows for separation when the marriage has become a place of danger. If you need to leave for your physical or emotional safety, that step can be taken without severing the bond forever. It is not an unpardonable failure; it is a painful concession to the brokenness of this world.

Ask the Lord for wisdom to distinguish between fleeing a problem and finding a necessary refuge. The prophet warned those who ran to Egypt to escape war that the very terror they feared would follow them there, and so it is when we try to solve our trials by mere human strategy. But there is a holy escape when staying means being destroyed. Jesus himself, by dying in our place, made a way for us to escape the judgment we deserved. He does not demand that you remain in the path of a drunkard’s rage. If you have an opportunity to go to a safe place with godly support, take it as mercy from his hand.

Pray without ceasing for your husband’s deliverance. Alcohol is a tyrant, but Christ is stronger. While you are apart, let your heart remain open to the possibility that God may yet break the chains that have bound him. True love may require distance for a season, but it does not shut the door on repentance. Let the church surround you with practical help and with intercession. You are not alone. The lighted path you seek will become clearer as you walk step by step in obedience, leaning on the One who knows what it is to suffer unjustly and who promised never to leave you.

We want to thank you for trusting us with your heart and allowing us to stand with you in prayer during this incredibly difficult time. We have lifted you and your husband before the Lord, asking Him to intervene in mighty ways—whether through deliverance from the bondage of alcohol or by making a clear path for you to walk in safety and peace. We have prayed for God’s protection over your heart, mind, and spirit, and for His wisdom to guide every step you take.

If the Lord has answered your prayer in any way—whether through a change in your husband’s behavior, a moment of clarity for you, or an open door to leave—we would be so encouraged to hear your praise report. Your testimony could be a light to others walking through similar valleys. On the other hand, if the situation remains unchanged or has grown heavier, please do not hesitate to post this request again. We are here to continue praying with you, believing that God hears the cries of His children and will not leave you without hope.

May the Father wrap you in His peace that surpasses all understanding, strengthen you with His might, and lead you along the path He has prepared. We pray that He would reveal His love to you in tangible ways and give you the courage to follow wherever He leads. In Jesus’ precious and powerful name, we pray. Amen.
