We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up you and your sister in this difficult time. The pain of watching a loved one suffer, especially in hospice care, is profound, and we grieve with you. The weight of sorrow can feel unbearable, but we know that our God is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). He sees your tears and collects them in His bottle (Psalm 56:8), and He promises to be your strength when you are weak (Isaiah 41:10).
First, we must address the foundation of our faith. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not placed your trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. This is the first and most critical step in finding true peace, even in the midst of suffering.
For your sister, we pray that the Lord would surround her with His peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). If she has not yet surrendered her life to Christ, we pray that the Holy Spirit would draw her close and that she would find salvation in Jesus before she passes. If she is already a believer, we ask that the Lord would comfort her with the hope of eternal life, where there will be no more pain, no more sorrow, and no more death (Revelation 21:4). We pray for moments of clarity and peace for her, and that she would feel the presence of Jesus holding her hand through this valley.
For you, dear one, we pray that the Lord would be your refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1). The grief you are carrying is heavy, and it is okay to pour out your heart to God. He invites you to cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). We pray that He would give you the strength to endure each day, the wisdom to lean on Him, and the comfort of knowing that He is with you. Surround yourself with believers who can support you, pray with you, and remind you of God’s promises. Do not isolate yourself in this pain, let others carry this burden with you (Galatians 6:2).
We also rebuke the spirit of despair that may be trying to take hold of you. The enemy would love nothing more than for you to lose hope, but we declare that God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Stand firm in your faith, even when it feels like the ground beneath you is shaking. Remember that this life is temporary, but the hope we have in Christ is eternal.
We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that are aching but trusting in Your goodness. Lord, we lift up this dear sister in hospice care. If she does not know You, we pray that You would reveal Yourself to her in a powerful way, that she would surrender her life to Jesus and find eternal peace. If she is already Yours, wrap her in Your love and remind her of the hope she has in You. Give her moments of comfort and clarity, and let her feel Your presence in a tangible way.
For the one who has written to us, Father, we ask that You would be her strength. When she is weak, be her power. When she is overwhelmed, be her peace. Surround her with Your love and the love of Your people. Help her to lean on You and to trust that You are working all things together for good, even when she cannot see it (Romans 8:28). Give her the courage to face each day, knowing that You are with her.
Lord, we rebuke the spirit of despair and fear that seeks to steal her hope. Fill her with Your Holy Spirit, reminding her that You are the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Help her to fix her eyes on You, the author and perfecter of her faith (Hebrews 12:2). Give her the strength to walk through this valley, knowing that You are her shepherd and that goodness and mercy will follow her all the days of her life (Psalm 23:6).
We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Hold fast to God’s promises, dear one. He is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Even in this dark time, His light shines, and His love endures forever. You are not alone.
