Pray for myself and my sister

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up you and your sister in this difficult time. The pain of watching a loved one suffer, especially in hospice care, is profound, and we grieve with you. The weight of sorrow can feel unbearable, but we know that our God is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). He sees your tears and collects them in His bottle (Psalm 56:8), and He promises to be your strength when you are weak (Isaiah 41:10).

First, we must address the foundation of our faith. It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father (John 14:6). There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not placed your trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection for your salvation, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. This is the first and most critical step in finding true peace, even in the midst of suffering.

For your sister, we pray that the Lord would surround her with His peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). If she has not yet surrendered her life to Christ, we pray that the Holy Spirit would draw her close and that she would find salvation in Jesus before she passes. If she is already a believer, we ask that the Lord would comfort her with the hope of eternal life, where there will be no more pain, no more sorrow, and no more death (Revelation 21:4). We pray for moments of clarity and peace for her, and that she would feel the presence of Jesus holding her hand through this valley.

For you, dear one, we pray that the Lord would be your refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1). The grief you are carrying is heavy, and it is okay to pour out your heart to God. He invites you to cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). We pray that He would give you the strength to endure each day, the wisdom to lean on Him, and the comfort of knowing that He is with you. Surround yourself with believers who can support you, pray with you, and remind you of God’s promises. Do not isolate yourself in this pain, let others carry this burden with you (Galatians 6:2).

We also rebuke the spirit of despair that may be trying to take hold of you. The enemy would love nothing more than for you to lose hope, but we declare that God has not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Stand firm in your faith, even when it feels like the ground beneath you is shaking. Remember that this life is temporary, but the hope we have in Christ is eternal.

We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that are aching but trusting in Your goodness. Lord, we lift up this dear sister in hospice care. If she does not know You, we pray that You would reveal Yourself to her in a powerful way, that she would surrender her life to Jesus and find eternal peace. If she is already Yours, wrap her in Your love and remind her of the hope she has in You. Give her moments of comfort and clarity, and let her feel Your presence in a tangible way.

For the one who has written to us, Father, we ask that You would be her strength. When she is weak, be her power. When she is overwhelmed, be her peace. Surround her with Your love and the love of Your people. Help her to lean on You and to trust that You are working all things together for good, even when she cannot see it (Romans 8:28). Give her the courage to face each day, knowing that You are with her.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of despair and fear that seeks to steal her hope. Fill her with Your Holy Spirit, reminding her that You are the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Help her to fix her eyes on You, the author and perfecter of her faith (Hebrews 12:2). Give her the strength to walk through this valley, knowing that You are her shepherd and that goodness and mercy will follow her all the days of her life (Psalm 23:6).

We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

Hold fast to God’s promises, dear one. He is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Even in this dark time, His light shines, and His love endures forever. You are not alone.

We're so sorry you're walking through this right now. Hospice is a heavy place, and watching your sister decline while your own strength drains away is an exhausting, lonely weight to carry. It makes perfect sense that you're not doing well. Love costs us deeply in seasons like this, and the weariness you feel isn't a sign of weak faith. It's the honest toll of a long, hard goodbye.

Sometimes when we're the one holding vigil, we forget that our own need is just as real. Are you drinking water? Eating even a little? Stepping outside for five minutes of fresh air? Those aren't solutions, but they're small mercies that can keep your body going when your heart is breaking. If someone, a friend, a church member, anyone, has offered to sit with her for an hour, this may be the moment to say yes, even if it feels pointless. A short walk or a nap in a nearby room won't fix the pain, but it might let you return to her bedside with just a bit more to give.

There's no right way to grieve the slow loss of someone you love. The tears, the numbness, the short temper, the guilt over small moments of distraction, these don't need fixing. They need company. We're praying that even in the fog of hospice, you'd sense that you're not abandoned. That someone sees what this is costing you, and that the Shepherd who stays close to the dying also stays close to those worn out from loving them.

Lord Jesus, hold this dear one steady right now. When the grief feels too big and the hours too long, be their quiet place to land. Give the medical staff wisdom and gentleness with the sister, and in the spaces where words fail, let your peace settle in the room. Sustain this caregiver's body and spirit in the days ahead, and carry what feels too heavy to bear alone. In your name, Amen.

Comfort ye, comfort ye, you child of mine with an aching heart. The very words from the prophet’s pen are as a bright-winged seraph sent down to your soul this hour. Full oft does such a messenger flap to earth on purpose to reach the desponding heart, and I charge you now to hear Heaven’s own command. God Himself saith to you, “Comfort ye.” The Lord of pilgrims was a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, and His disciples must expect to fare as their Master fared. Yet in your present misery, seek to be comforted. Do not look within your own little might and strength, as if rattling the bars of an iron cage, for that will fail you utterly. All strength apart from Him is derived and measurable, and will dry up. But this is a peculiar comfort from a peculiar source. It is the Word that quickens. The external comfort of the Christian is the Word of God, but the Spirit giveth the internal part. When the Lord wants to comfort, He quickens and so He comforts. Sometimes the roundabout way is the straight way. You have been miserable before, but you have been delivered and helped. Therefore, take this Divine message to your heart: you shall forget your misery, and remember it as waters that pass away. Time is a wonderful healer, but far more so is the presence of the Lord.

There is no brokenness of reed that Christ will snap, no smoking flax of weakness in you that He will quench. The enormity of guilt, the lack of sensibility, the sense of having no might, let these not drive you to despair. To those who have no might, He increaseth strength. When there remains no strength in you, nor any ability of any kind, then fling yourself upon Divine strength and lay hold upon it. He saith, “I will strengthen them.” God Himself will impart strength to His chosen, fitly infused and wisely balanced. Is your sister so near the crossing? Then this is comfort: though the outward man perish, the soul will leap away from death into eternal life in a moment. If God hath said, “They shall,” then assuredly both you and she who wait upon the Lord shall renew your strength. She shall mount up, and you, poor tried child of God, shall find constancy without comfort does not suffice, but comfort and constancy together come from our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. Thus saith the Spirit: comfort your hearts, O weary ones, and be established.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Suffering and grief are not without purpose in the hands of God. When the soul is weighed down, it is then that it most eagerly seeks true comfort. You see your sister departing this life, and your own heart is breaking. But consider: this very affliction cuts away the love of the present world. She is being called to that place where grief and mourning flee away. Do not measure her condition by the body alone. The body may waste, but the soul is the chief thing. Christ asks, “What shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” If the body be fattened while the soul pines, that prosperity is nothing. For her, the pains of the flesh are but for a moment, working an eternal weight of glory. For you, this trial is a furnace to refine your faith.

I pray that you both may be comforted together by the mutual faith that binds us as members of one body. When you are comforted, I am comforted; when you endure, we all are strengthened. Let not your sorrow be as those who have no hope. We await the resurrection, when we shall be ever with the Lord. In the meantime, let your sister’s conscience be at peace in Christ, and let yours be stirred to lay hold of the promise of life. Weep, for it is human, but let your tears be mingled with the hope that is unseen. And remember that even now, though bodies are separated, the souls of the faithful are united in Him who is the resurrection and the life. I will not cease to pray that the God of all comfort may visit you both, and that this season of distress may yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness.
