Beloved of All
Your burden for your son is felt deeply, and thank you for sharing it so honestly. The love of a parent for a child is one of the strongest loves we know, and Scripture itself uses that love to help us understand the heart of God. When God tested Abraham by asking him to offer Isaac, He said take your son, your only son, whom you love. That language shows how precious a son is to a father, and it points us to something greater, that God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. The Father knows what it is to love a son, and He knows what it is to give His Son for us.
That is important for you and for your son right now. He feels alone and far from family, and you feel far from him and unable to be there in person. Yet he is not unseen. God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons. Through Jesus, those who believe are adopted into God's family, and God sends the Spirit of His Son into our hearts so we can cry Abba, Father. That means even in loneliness, in a quiet home, in fear before medical procedures, your son can be near to a Father who is present and who hears.
Scripture is also clear that this life, both now and forever, is found in the Son. God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life. No one truly knows the Father except through the Son, and the Son reveals the Father to us. If your son does not yet know Jesus personally, the greatest prayer is that he would come to know Him, believe on the name of the Son of God, and find not only comfort for this dark season but the assurance of life with God. If he does know Him, he can know that he is held as a son, not forgotten.
God also corrects and cares for His sons because He loves them. As a father delights in his son, so the Lord in His love does not leave us alone in our struggles but works to draw us closer and to refine us. That does not mean He causes despair, but it does mean that even in suffering He is near to comfort and to keep us.
I am praying for your son and for you.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I lift up this dear son to You. You see where he lives, his loneliness, his missing his family, the heavy thoughts that tell him there is no hope, and the medical procedures before him. Lord, place Your hand upon him. Guard his mind and his life. Lift the darkness of suicidal thoughts and replace it with Your peace and presence. Let him know he is not alone, that You are near as Father, and that You love him enough to have given Your only Son for him. Provide for him people nearby who will check on him, listen to him, and help him get care. Guide the hands of those who will treat him medically and grant a good outcome. Comfort his mother in her worry and her inability to travel, and provide ways for them to stay connected and encouraged. Draw this son to Jesus, that he may have life in Him and know the hope that does not fail. Amen.

Encourage him to tell someone near him when those dark thoughts come, whether a trusted person, a local pastor or church family, or a medical professional, and to seek help right away if he feels unsafe. If he is willing, encourage him to read the words of Jesus in the Gospels and the promises of Scripture, and to ask God as Father for help in Jesus name.
