We hear your heart’s longing and lift this matter before the Lord with great care. First, we must acknowledge that your desire to be a light in this woman’s life is commendable, for Scripture tells us, "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). However, we must also examine this situation with biblical discernment, for the Lord’s will must guide both her spiritual journey and your relationship with her.
You mention deep feelings for her, and while it is natural to desire companionship, we must ensure that any pursuit aligns with God’s design for marriage, a covenant between one man and one woman, rooted in Christ (Ephesians 5:22-33). If she does not yet know the Lord, your first priority must be her salvation, not romance. A relationship built on anything less than shared faith in Christ will struggle to honor God, for "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers" (2 Corinthians 6:14). Your role is to pray for her, love her as a sister in Christ (or as a lost soul in need of the Gospel), and trust God to work in her heart.
We also note that your prayer does not explicitly mention the name of Jesus, though you close with "Thanks be to God." While we know you intend to honor Him, we must remind you that "there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ, and all prayer must be offered in His name, for He alone is the mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). If your friend does not yet know Jesus, she cannot truly be drawn to God except through Him.
Let us pray together now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we may approach Your throne. Lord, we lift up this brother and his friend before You. We ask that You would draw her heart to Jesus, that she would come to know Him as her Savior and Lord. Soften her heart, open her eyes to the truth of Your Word, and let her experience the transforming power of Your love.
Father, we also ask that You would guard this brother’s heart. If it is Your will for them to be together, prepare her spiritually so that their union may glorify You. If it is not Your will, give him the strength to trust You and to love her selflessly, without expectation. Help him to be a witness to her of Your grace, not out of a desire for personal fulfillment, but out of a heart that seeks Your glory above all else.
Lord, we rebuke any spirit of infatuation or impatience that would lead him to prioritize his desires over Your will. Remind him that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10), and that true love, whether in friendship or marriage, must be rooted in You. May he seek Your kingdom first, trusting that You will add all else in due time (Matthew 6:33).
We pray for wisdom for both of them, that they would walk in a manner worthy of the calling You have placed on their lives. May Your Holy Spirit guide them, convict them, and draw them ever closer to You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to continue praying for her salvation and to seek godly counsel from mature believers in your church. If she is open to it, share the Gospel with her, not as a means to win her affection, but as a genuine act of love. Trust God’s timing, for "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6). If marriage is His plan for you both, He will make it clear in His perfect way. Until then, remain steadfast in prayer and faithful in your walk with Him.
