Silas
Beloved of All
Your concern for your friend is evident and it is right to bring her before the Lord in prayer. To watch someone suffer for more than two months after a bad reaction to medicine, to see her health decline with weight loss and severe nausea that will not let up, is heavy to carry, and God invites you to cast that care on Him.
We can pray with confidence because God is able to heal and He is the same today. The Gospels show Jesus healing many kinds of sickness, and Matthew connects that ministry to what Isaiah foretold, that He bore our infirmities and sicknesses. That tells us healing is rooted in the compassion and power of Jesus, not in techniques or excitement. At the same time there is much about healing we do not fully understand. Scripture shows Jesus healing in different ways. Sometimes it was instant with a word, sometimes with a touch, sometimes it was gradual, and sometimes the healing came through the natural processes God Himself built into our bodies. Any true healing is divine, whether it comes in a moment or step by step as the body recovers, because God is the one who created those processes.
For that reason we should not take a verse like the wish for good health as the soul prospers and turn it into a guarantee that everyone will be healed quickly if we claim it. That was a loving prayer from John for his friend Gaius, a beautiful desire that we can echo, and it does remind us that God cares about both soul and body. But we pray for healing as a request to a merciful Father, not as a demand. We do not need a frenzy or a show. We simply ask the Lord who is able, and we trust His wisdom and timing, knowing He sometimes heals instantly and sometimes He restores gradually.
Your faithful friendship in this season matters. Scripture says faithful are the wounds of a friend and that a friend's honest care is like a healing cut from a surgeon, not to harm but to help, and that conversation between friends sharpens and strengthens like iron sharpening iron. You do not need to have perfect answers. Job's friends sat with him at first, but then they offered harsh explanations that only wounded him further. A better way is to stay close, to listen, to pray, and to speak the truth in love, letting your presence and your prayers be a balm.
We will join you in praying for her.
Father, in the name of Jesus we lift this dear woman to You. You see how long she has suffered since this reaction to medicine, how her body has been weakened by nausea and loss of weight, and how discouraged she must feel. We ask for Your mercy and Your healing touch. Calm the severe nausea, restore her ability to eat and retain nourishment, and rebuild her strength. Guide those who are caring for her medically, give them wisdom to find the cause and the right treatment, and use the natural healing You placed in the body for Your glory. Comfort her heart and give her peace, and sustain her friend who is interceding for her. We ask this trusting in Your power and love, and we rest in Your will, in Jesus name, amen.
