Pray for my friend and I

Gyundeth

Disciple of Prayer
Please pray for the Lord to draw my friend ### towards Him and to draw us together, as I have developed deep genuine feelings for her and I know that I could be a light for the Lord in her life and show her the type of love that God expects for a man to love a woman... Thanks in advance for your prayers and Thanks be to God for hearing and answering this prayer request. Amen!!!

We hear your heart’s longing and lift this matter before the Lord with great care. First, we must acknowledge that your desire to be a light in this woman’s life is commendable, for Scripture tells us, "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). However, we must also examine this situation with biblical discernment, for the Lord’s will must guide both her spiritual journey and your relationship with her.

You mention deep feelings for her, and while it is natural to desire companionship, we must ensure that any pursuit aligns with God’s design for marriage, a covenant between one man and one woman, rooted in Christ (Ephesians 5:22-33). If she does not yet know the Lord, your first priority must be her salvation, not romance. A relationship built on anything less than shared faith in Christ will struggle to honor God, for "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers" (2 Corinthians 6:14). Your role is to pray for her, love her as a sister in Christ (or as a lost soul in need of the Gospel), and trust God to work in her heart.

We also note that your prayer does not explicitly mention the name of Jesus, though you close with "Thanks be to God." While we know you intend to honor Him, we must remind you that "there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Salvation comes only through faith in Jesus Christ, and all prayer must be offered in His name, for He alone is the mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). If your friend does not yet know Jesus, she cannot truly be drawn to God except through Him.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we may approach Your throne. Lord, we lift up this brother and his friend before You. We ask that You would draw her heart to Jesus, that she would come to know Him as her Savior and Lord. Soften her heart, open her eyes to the truth of Your Word, and let her experience the transforming power of Your love.

Father, we also ask that You would guard this brother’s heart. If it is Your will for them to be together, prepare her spiritually so that their union may glorify You. If it is not Your will, give him the strength to trust You and to love her selflessly, without expectation. Help him to be a witness to her of Your grace, not out of a desire for personal fulfillment, but out of a heart that seeks Your glory above all else.

Lord, we rebuke any spirit of infatuation or impatience that would lead him to prioritize his desires over Your will. Remind him that "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom" (Proverbs 9:10), and that true love, whether in friendship or marriage, must be rooted in You. May he seek Your kingdom first, trusting that You will add all else in due time (Matthew 6:33).

We pray for wisdom for both of them, that they would walk in a manner worthy of the calling You have placed on their lives. May Your Holy Spirit guide them, convict them, and draw them ever closer to You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

We encourage you to continue praying for her salvation and to seek godly counsel from mature believers in your church. If she is open to it, share the Gospel with her, not as a means to win her affection, but as a genuine act of love. Trust God’s timing, for "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6). If marriage is His plan for you both, He will make it clear in His perfect way. Until then, remain steadfast in prayer and faithful in your walk with Him.

We hear your heart in this, and we’re praying with you. Wanting to be a vessel of Christ’s love in someone’s life is a genuine and gracious desire, and we’re glad you’re bringing it before the Lord.

As we read your request, we are reminded that the kind of love God calls a man to show a woman is patient, kind, and not self-seeking. It doesn’t demand a particular outcome but trusts God with the timing and nature of the connection. Right now, the most powerful way to reflect His light is simply to be a steady, respectful friend, someone who cares for her well-being without attaching pressure or expectation. That kind of friendship often becomes the soil in which God grows something lasting, whether as a deeper friendship or more. So we’re joining you in praying specifically that the Lord draws her to Himself, and we’re also praying that He gives you wisdom and peace as you hold your feelings before Him. It’s okay to feel deeply; just keep returning those hopes to His care, knowing He loves both of you perfectly.

Lord Jesus, we lift up this woman to You. Draw her tenderly toward Yourself, open her heart to Your truth, and surround her with people who reflect Your grace. For our brother, we ask for steady hands and a quiet heart, help him to trust Your timing and to love her in ways that mirror Your patience and kindness. Guide this friendship, and let Your will be done in both their lives. Amen.

Praying that the Lord would draw a soul to Himself is a most blessed request, for there is no other way of salvation under Heaven but coming to Christ. Yet take heed that you do not desire her drawing chiefly for your own comfort or the fulfillment of your affections; let the supreme cry be that she might have life, that she might know His love which passes knowledge. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things, if it be His will, shall be added in His time.

You speak of showing her the love God expects from a man toward a woman. That is a high and holy calling, measured only by the model set before us: “Christ also loved the Church and gave Himself for it.” No man can truly love a woman with this love until he himself is lost in Christ, until he has learned to love as Christ loved, sacrificially, purely, with no selfish aim. And remember, the soul you long to draw can never find rest in your devotion; she must first be espoused to Christ, united to Him in eternal wedlock. Nothing but coming to Christ ever gives peace. That is the one essential: for her to come to Him, to leave every other trust, and to trust wholly in Jesus.

Do not think that you can be her light; rather, point her ever to the Light of the World. The Spirit of God alone quickens dead souls; we are but the witnesses. Pray earnestly, “Lord, draw her to Thyself,” not “Lord, draw her to me.” And see to it that your own soul is clinging to Christ, that you are not angry with God if His answer tarries or takes a path you did not choose. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, and it drives you not from Him but to Him. Go often to the mercy seat. Go always. Coming to Christ is the daily business of the believer, and as you come for her, come also for yourself. If you would be a blessing to any, you must first be filled with His fullness.

There is room at the cross for both of you. He stands at the door; He waits. He cannot cast out any who come. Urge her, not by your pleading alone but by your example, to fly to Jesus. And should the Lord grant her repentance and faith, then both of you, resting in His love, will learn what it is to walk in obedience to Him, happy in nothing but that which appertains to Christ.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You ask prayer that the Lord draw your friend to Himself and draw the two of you together, because you have deep feelings and believe you could be a light to her, showing the love God expects of a man toward a woman. But examine your motive. You seek a friendship rooted in your affection and your hope of a particular human bond. Yet Scripture and right reason teach that friendships ought to be formed upon godliness only. Now the opposite is done: we become friends from relationship, long acquaintance, or feeling, rather than from the one necessary foundation. Do not build on sand because the shape of the house pleases you.

Consider whether you love Christ as you ought. Many believe He is God, yet love Him not, preferring something else to Him, money, comfort, or the desire of a human heart. If we live in defiance of His ordering of our affections, where is our love? Has anyone a warm friend? Let him love Christ equally. If not more, let him love Christ who gave His Son for us when we were enemies. What hope can be ours if, after being made His friends, we still love our own designs more than His will? You shudder at the word, but I would have you shudder at the fact.

True spiritual friendship is more longed for than light itself. Better to be in darkness than without genuine friends who are bound by the love of God. But that love is not forged by projecting a romance upon someone still outside the household of faith. You say you could be a light to her. Yet the light you must first offer is the pure, undissembling love that desires her salvation above your own gratification, that she be drawn to Christ, whether or not she is drawn to you. For what you describe mingles the prayer for her soul with a prayer for your own emotional fulfillment. The one is a debt of love you owe every soul; the other is a hope you must lay uncomplaining upon the altar.

Pray therefore fervently for her conversion, that she be delivered from error and mental darkness. Labor in prayer for her as for a brother, remembering that we are members one of another. But do not seek to compel God to serve your personal affection. Cease from kindling a fire that may be unquenchable, and anchor your longings in the world to come. If it be His will, He will order relationships in His own time and manner. Your part now is to love her with that spiritual love which prefers nothing to Christ, and which seeks her good without bargaining for a particular return. Walk honestly, with reverence and godly fear, that you may pass this present life not pursuing shadows, but attaining the good things to come. Lord, draw this soul to Thyself, and order all things to the salvation of both. Amen.

It is good that you are praying for your friend. There is nothing wrong with wanting her to know the Lord, and that should be the deepest part of your request. But remember that only Jesus can draw a heart to Himself. No man, no matter how sincere or loving, can do that inward work. We can reflect Him, but we cannot replace Him. The best way to be a light in her life is not to make yourself necessary to her, but to make Christ visible through your own humility, patience, and holiness. If she is ever drawn to God, it will be because the Spirit has awakened her, not because you have willed it or earned it.

Your feelings are real, but they need to be brought under the lordship of Christ. The kind of love God calls a man to show a woman is meant to mirror Jesus giving Himself for the church, and that belongs within the covenant of marriage. Outside that covenant, the calling is self-control, honor, and purity. So do not let your desire to be close to her become a pressure or a hidden transaction. Surrender the outcome to God. If you have been crucified with Christ, then your own ambitions, including this hope, are no longer on the throne. You can trust Him with the result.

Be careful not to slip into a legal relationship with the Lord, trying to prove that you would be a good light for her so that He will grant your desire. God does not want you to relate to Him by works or by making deals. He wants you to know His love and to live from that love. The fruit of the Spirit, including patience, kindness, and self-control, grows naturally when you are abiding in Christ. Let that fruit be what she sees. Do not try to manufacture it.

I will pray that the Lord draws your friend to Himself and gives her a true love for Jesus. I will also pray that He purifies your desires, guards your heart, and gives you wisdom. If the Lord wills this friendship to become something more, He will make it plain in His time and in His way. But the foundation must be Christ alone, not your ability to be her light. Seek His kingdom first. Love her in purity, pray for her without demanding a response, and leave the outcome with the One who is able to do more than we can ask or imagine. Amen.
