Pray for me to stop snoring

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I have been married for ### years now but all this while my husband complains about my snoring. More especially when am pregnant it gets worse. Now his complaints about my snoring have become worse in a sense that his tone has become that of which he clearly thinks I do it deliberately and this is really stressing me out. I have tried all the remedies of drinking hot/ warm water before bed. Elevating my pillow, sleeping on my side and all but to no avail. Help me pray

We hear your heart and understand the distress this situation is causing you, especially in the sacred covenant of marriage. Snoring can indeed be a physical challenge, but the way your husband is responding to it, with an accusatory tone, is not honoring to the love and patience God calls spouses to exhibit toward one another. Let us first address this with Scripture, for marriage is a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church, and both husband and wife are called to submit to one another in reverence for Christ (Ephesians 5:21-33).

The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 that love is patient and kind, not easily angered, and always hopes and perseveres. It is clear your husband’s frustration is not aligned with this biblical definition of love. We must rebuke this spirit of accusation and impatience in his tone, for it is not of God. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." His words should build you up, not tear you down, especially during a time as sacred as carrying a child.

We also want to encourage you to continue seeking solutions for the snoring, as it is affecting both of your rest and peace. While you have tried natural remedies, have you considered consulting a medical professional? Sometimes snoring can be linked to underlying health issues, and addressing those may bring relief. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." God may use doctors or other means to provide a solution, so do not lose heart in seeking help.

Now, let us come before the Lord in prayer, lifting up both you and your husband to Him:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this dear sister and her marriage to You. Lord, we ask that You would touch her body and bring relief from the snoring that has become such a burden. You are the Great Physician, and nothing is too difficult for You. We pray for wisdom for her as she seeks solutions, whether through medical advice or other means, and we ask that You would guide her steps to find relief.

Father, we also lift up her husband to You. Soften his heart, Lord, and help him to see the way his words and tone have been affecting his wife. Fill him with Your love, patience, and kindness, that he may speak to her in a way that honors You and builds her up. Remind him of the vows he made before You to love and cherish her, and help him to live out those vows daily.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of accusation and impatience that has crept into their marriage. We declare that their home will be a place of peace, love, and mutual respect. Strengthen their bond, Father, and help them to navigate this challenge with grace and unity. We pray for the child she is carrying, that You would protect and bless this little one, and that this pregnancy would be a time of joy and anticipation for both parents.

Father, we ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to You. May Your will be done in their lives, and may Your name be glorified in their marriage. Amen.

Continue to trust in the Lord, dear sister, and do not allow the enemy to use this situation to bring division or discouragement into your marriage. Stand on God’s Word, which promises that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). Keep communicating openly with your husband, and encourage him to seek the Lord as well, for a marriage rooted in Christ is unshakable. You are not alone in this, we stand with you in prayer and faith.

We can hear how wearing this has become for you. Loving your husband and wanting peace at night, especially while pregnant, and then feeling like he believes you are choosing to snore would leave anyone feeling hurt and on edge. You are not doing this on purpose, and it makes sense that you feel stressed when you have already tried so many things on your own.

Pregnancy puts extra strain on your body and on sleep, so please consider mentioning the snoring to your doctor or midwife at your next visit, alongside our prayers. They can listen well and help you know if anything needs a closer look, and give you safe guidance for this season.

It may also help to find a calm moment outside bedtime to let your husband know how his tone lands on you and how much his understanding would mean right now. You both need rest, and you deserve to feel supported while you carry this pregnancy.

We are praying for you.

Father, we lift this dear sister to You in Jesus name. Give her peaceful rest and calm in her body and mind, ease the stress she feels, and help her and her husband to hear each other with kindness and patience. Grant her wisdom and care from those looking after her in pregnancy, and draw their marriage closer in this demanding season. Amen.

Your request has been heard with much tenderness and we have brought it before the Lord with you. To be afflicted in body while carrying a child, and then to feel misunderstood in your own home by the one who should most comfort you, is a double burden, and we do not make light of it.

Be assured that snoring is not a moral fault, nor is it done deliberately. The Lord who formed our frame knows that we are dust, and He understands the infirmities of the body, especially in the season of pregnancy when breath is straitened and sleep is broken. The increase of snoring in that condition is common, owing to swelling and pressure and the changed state of the body, and it is not a sign of neglect or ill will on your part. We pray that your husband may see this also, and that his weariness may not harden into a harsh tone, but that he may dwell with you according to knowledge, with gentleness and honour, as the Scripture exhorts.

We have prayed for you thus, that the Lord would grant you restful sleep, ease your breathing in the night, and guard both you and the child you bear. We have asked Him to lift this heavy stress from your spirit, for you are anxious and cast down by his complaints, and to give you peace in knowing that your heavenly Father does not measure your worth by such things. We have prayed also for your husband, that God would give him a tender heart and patient words, that your home even in broken nights might be a place of kindness and forbearance.

While we look to the Lord, we would also counsel you to seek wise and timely help of the physician or midwife who cares for you in pregnancy. Snoring that grows louder in pregnancy should be mentioned to them, that they may examine you and advise you well, for sometimes there is need of care beyond warm water and a raised pillow. Continue in those simple helps which prudence suggests, to sleep upon your side where you are able, to keep due order in rest and diet, but do not carry this alone as a secret shame. Let your husband and your caregivers know plainly how you suffer from his tone and from broken rest, speaking the truth in love.

Remember that the conflict you feel within, between desire for peace and the sting of reproach, is known to the Lord. He is able to save and to keep those who come unto Him, and He will not cast out the weary heart that seeks Him. Cast your care upon Him, for He careth for you. In the night watches when sleep flees or when you wake troubled, turn your heart to prayer and to some promise of His Word, and let your soul find rest in Him even when the body finds little.

May the Lord give you quiet nights so far as it pleases His wisdom, and if that relief tarries, may He give you a quiet heart. May He knit you and your husband together in deeper love through this trial, teaching you both to bear one another's burdens and so fulfil the law of Christ.
