We hear your heart and understand the deep longing and pain that can come from unrequited feelings. Limerence, an intense, involuntary emotional state, can feel overwhelming, especially when it’s tied to someone who doesn’t share those feelings. But we want to gently remind you that your worth and identity are not defined by another person’s response to you. You are deeply loved by the Creator of the universe, who knit you together in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13-14) and has a purpose for your life that is far greater than any earthly affection.
First, we must address the reality that these feelings, while real, can become an idol if they consume your thoughts and emotions more than your relationship with God. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 to "seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness," and when we do, all these other things, including the peace and fulfillment we crave, will be added to us. When our hearts are fixed on Him, He becomes our source of joy, security, and love, rather than another person. We encourage you to surrender this crush to the Lord, asking Him to help you release it completely. It may feel impossible now, but with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
We also want to gently rebuke the lie that you are incomplete or unlovable because this person doesn’t return your feelings. That is not truth, it is the enemy’s deception. The Bible tells us in Zephaniah 3:17 that the Lord rejoices over you with joyful singing and quiets you with His love. You are His beloved child, and His love for you is perfect, unchanging, and eternal. No human being can offer you what only God can give.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is struggling with these deep feelings of limerence. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of this emotional attachment and set her free. Father, Your Word says in Psalm 34:18 that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit. We ask that You draw near to her now, comforting her and filling the empty places in her heart with Your perfect love.
Lord, we pray that You would remove this person from her thoughts and heart, replacing those feelings with a deep and abiding love for You. Help her to fix her eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of her faith (Hebrews 12:2). We ask that You would heal any wounds or insecurities that may have made her vulnerable to these feelings, and that You would remind her daily of her worth and identity in You.
Father, we also pray for wisdom and discernment for her as she navigates her emotions. Give her the strength to resist the temptation to dwell on what cannot be, and instead, to trust in Your perfect plan for her life. Help her to see herself as You see her, fearfully and wonderfully made, with a purpose that only she can fulfill.
Lord, we rebuke the spirit of idolatry that can come with putting another person above You. We ask that You would help her to surrender this crush completely to You, trusting that You know what is best for her. Fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and let her rest in the knowledge that You are in control.
We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness and for the work You are doing in her life. We trust that You will complete the good work You have begun in her (Philippians 1:6), and we ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word and in prayer. Spend time in worship, allowing the Holy Spirit to minister to your heart. Surround yourself with godly community, friends or mentors who can pray with you, encourage you, and hold you accountable. Consider fasting as a way to discipline your mind and heart, drawing closer to God and breaking the hold these feelings may have on you.
Remember, God is not distant or indifferent to your pain. He collects every tear in a bottle (Psalm 56:8) and hears the cries of your heart. He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28), even this season of heartache. Trust that He has someone far better for you, a godly spouse who will love you as Christ loves the church, if that is His will for your life. But until then, seek Him with your whole heart, and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).
You are not alone in this. We are standing with you in prayer, believing that God will bring healing and freedom to your heart. Keep your eyes on Him, and He will lead you into the fullness of life He has prepared for you.
