Pray for me to get over crush

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I’ve developed a crush on someone who doesn’t like me. But I have a lot of limerence for him. Please pray God takes him off my mind & heart.

We hear your heart and understand the deep longing and pain that can come from unrequited feelings. Limerence, an intense, involuntary emotional state, can feel overwhelming, especially when it’s tied to someone who doesn’t share those feelings. But we want to gently remind you that your worth and identity are not defined by another person’s response to you. You are deeply loved by the Creator of the universe, who knit you together in your mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13-14) and has a purpose for your life that is far greater than any earthly affection.

First, we must address the reality that these feelings, while real, can become an idol if they consume your thoughts and emotions more than your relationship with God. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 to "seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness," and when we do, all these other things, including the peace and fulfillment we crave, will be added to us. When our hearts are fixed on Him, He becomes our source of joy, security, and love, rather than another person. We encourage you to surrender this crush to the Lord, asking Him to help you release it completely. It may feel impossible now, but with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

We also want to gently rebuke the lie that you are incomplete or unlovable because this person doesn’t return your feelings. That is not truth, it is the enemy’s deception. The Bible tells us in Zephaniah 3:17 that the Lord rejoices over you with joyful singing and quiets you with His love. You are His beloved child, and His love for you is perfect, unchanging, and eternal. No human being can offer you what only God can give.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our sister who is struggling with these deep feelings of limerence. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of this emotional attachment and set her free. Father, Your Word says in Psalm 34:18 that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit. We ask that You draw near to her now, comforting her and filling the empty places in her heart with Your perfect love.

Lord, we pray that You would remove this person from her thoughts and heart, replacing those feelings with a deep and abiding love for You. Help her to fix her eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of her faith (Hebrews 12:2). We ask that You would heal any wounds or insecurities that may have made her vulnerable to these feelings, and that You would remind her daily of her worth and identity in You.

Father, we also pray for wisdom and discernment for her as she navigates her emotions. Give her the strength to resist the temptation to dwell on what cannot be, and instead, to trust in Your perfect plan for her life. Help her to see herself as You see her, fearfully and wonderfully made, with a purpose that only she can fulfill.

Lord, we rebuke the spirit of idolatry that can come with putting another person above You. We ask that You would help her to surrender this crush completely to You, trusting that You know what is best for her. Fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and let her rest in the knowledge that You are in control.

We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness and for the work You are doing in her life. We trust that You will complete the good work You have begun in her (Philippians 1:6), and we ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word and in prayer. Spend time in worship, allowing the Holy Spirit to minister to your heart. Surround yourself with godly community, friends or mentors who can pray with you, encourage you, and hold you accountable. Consider fasting as a way to discipline your mind and heart, drawing closer to God and breaking the hold these feelings may have on you.

Remember, God is not distant or indifferent to your pain. He collects every tear in a bottle (Psalm 56:8) and hears the cries of your heart. He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28), even this season of heartache. Trust that He has someone far better for you, a godly spouse who will love you as Christ loves the church, if that is His will for your life. But until then, seek Him with your whole heart, and He will direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

You are not alone in this. We are standing with you in prayer, believing that God will bring healing and freedom to your heart. Keep your eyes on Him, and He will lead you into the fullness of life He has prepared for you.

We hear how exhausting and painful it is when your mind and heart just won't let go of someone who doesn't feel the same way. Limerence is a heavy weight, it fills your thoughts, colors your moods, and can make you feel completely stuck. You're not weak or foolish for struggling with this; unrequited feelings are one of the hardest emotional battles there is.

What often keeps limerence alive is the habit of revisiting fantasies and memories. They feel comforting in the moment, but they actually deepen the rut you're stuck in. One concrete step that can help is to gently but firmly interrupt those thoughts every time he comes to mind. You can't simply stop thinking about him, but you can redirect, turn to a task that requires your full attention, reach out to a trusted friend, or simply pray a quick, honest prayer like "Lord, I give this to You again." Over time, you starve the obsession rather than feed it, and its grip begins to loosen.

We also want to remind you that God cares about every detail of your heart, including this. He doesn't shame you for your feelings; He walks with you through the hard work of letting go. And He is able to bring healing and new desires in His time.

Lord Jesus, we bring this struggle to You. Quiet the repetitive, unwanted thoughts and calm the ache in our friend's heart. Release them from the grip of this attachment and fill the empty places with Your peace. Redirect their focus toward what is true, good, and life-giving today. Give them hope that this season will pass and that You hold their future securely. In Your name, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You have brought a broken heart to the right place, for the Lord binds up the broken-hearted. This crush that consumes your mind is but a shadow of your soul’s deeper need, your heart has fastened upon a creature when it was made for the Creator. Such limerence is a fever, and the disease is not the person you pine for, but the idolatry that has crept into your affections. The heart that loves what it cannot have, and loves it more because it is withheld, is a heart that has forgotten its first love. Return, poor soul, to Him whose love abounds and whose thoughts toward you are precious and countless.

Do you imagine that God’s thoughts are as your thoughts? You think that if only this earthly affection were returned, your heart would be full. But His ways are higher than your ways. The Lord sees that this very sorrow is a medicine, bitter now, but needful. The bones which He breaks shall rejoice. Your heart is broken, and that is no small mercy. A broken column I have often seen in the ruins of old temples, and it pictures well those who begin toward Christ and then stop short, giving their love to another. But a broken heart on account of emptiness, of unrequited earthly longing, may be the very ground in which the Lord plants the healing leaves of the Gospel tree. Only take care that the demon of Despair does not make his cavern there; for a heart emptied of one idol must be filled with Christ, or the last state will be worse than the first.

Do not think I am harsh, for I know what it is to feel the gangrene of remorse and the unbelief that whispers you are beyond cure. But Jesus Christ died of a broken heart, pierced for you, so that every broken heart might find its rest in His. You cannot tear this infatuation out by your own resolve; your resolutions are broken pillars. Bring your poor, bleeding heart to Him and let His love cover it. His love is not like human love that grows cold or withholds itself. He says, “Eat, O friends; drink deeply.” He gives His love freely, and when you feast upon Him, the lean specters of earthly craving will flee away.

This crush is a snare because it chains you to what cannot satisfy, and it blinds you to the glorious liberty of being loved by God. Will you go after your farm and your merchandise, your private amusements of the heart, and reject the voice that calls you to glory and immortality? Let this pain drive you not inward to self-pity, but upward to Him whose love abides when all else fails. The healing leaves of the Tree of Life are for the nations, take them. His word, received by faith, searches the thoughts and intents of the heart and brings health to the fevered imagination.

So pray not merely that this man be taken from your mind, but that Christ be enthroned there. When the sun rises, the shadows flee. When the love of God is shed abroad in the heart, the love of the world and the things of the world loses its sting. The Lord’s thoughts are precious, think on them. Let His consolations sweeten your bitterness. And if you say, “I am sick at heart; may I dare partake of such a cure?”, yes, the leaves are for the healing of such as you. My prayer for you is that the bones which are broken may rejoice, and that you may soon sing with the spouse, “My Beloved is mine, and I am His.”

The turmoil you describe is a storm in the soul, but the Lord offers a calm that surpasses all understanding. He says, "Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Why then does this crush weigh so heavily? Because the heart has not yet fastened itself to that easy yoke. When we cling to a love that is not returned, we bind ourselves with chains of our own making. Instead, bind your heart and mind with the cords of humility. Learn of Christ, who is lowly, and you will find that the restless longing gives way to a deep repose.

Let this church be your house of healing. Come continually and hear the words of the Spirit; write them upon the tablets of your mind. When the soul is stamped with the King's writing, the devil's suggestions turn back from afar. Fill your thoughts with divine things, and the vain imagination will lose its power. Even if you cannot speak, pray as Hannah prayed, with a silent cry from the heart. God hears the voice of the afflicted soul, even when the lips are still. Do not merely ask for the removal of this feeling, but train your inward disposition with deliberate choice. You are not ruled by compulsion; the mind has the power to turn toward heaven and stand there in will, if not in place.

Above all, let your love be rightly ordered. To love in thought without reaching forth the hand in pure and fitting action is not enough. Set your affection on the things above, and let that love be matched with zeal for godliness. Then the lesser love will fade, for it cannot coexist with the greater. The calm harbor lies before you; navigate this present sea with the oar of lowliness, and you will find rest both here and hereafter.

I understand the ache behind these words. When the heart latches onto someone who does not return that feeling, it can feel like a weight you cannot set down, replaying over and over. What you are describing touches something deeper than a passing fancy. It is a craving of the heart, and Scripture always directs us back to the heart because that is where the real battle is fought. Jesus made it clear that what defiles us comes from within, from the thoughts and desires that take root there. This is not just about wanting God to erase a name from your memory. It is about asking Him to reclaim the affection that currently belongs to an unfulfilled human longing.

The love that God calls us to walk in is not the love this world chases. There is a kind of love that is extremely self-centered, always seeking its own gratification. It is often little more than lust wearing a prettier name. But the love God pours into our hearts through Jesus Christ is entirely different. It is a divine, self-sacrificing, giving love. It does not cling; it trusts and releases. The only way to be freed from a misplaced emotional fixation is not simply to try harder to stop thinking about someone. It is to have your heart so filled with a greater love that the lesser one loses its hold. We love Him because He first loved us, and that responsive love in us is what breaks every other chain.

The most practical thing you can do right now is turn your gaze away from the object of your crush and fix it firmly on Jesus. His love for you is not a cold doctrine. It is living, personal, and more real than any fleeting attraction. It is the kind of love that did not just speak words but proved itself by dying on a cross while we were still sinners. Let your mind dwell there. Let your heart overflow with the consciousness of His goodness and His presence. When the thoughts of that other person come rushing in, do not merely battle them as an enemy. Instead, use that surge of emotion as a prompt to pray, “Lord, I give this desire to You. Fill this space with Yourself.” The emptiness you feel is a space only He can fill. No human being, especially one who does not even share your feelings, can satisfy what is ultimately a thirst for the eternal love of God.

Praying for God to simply remove something is a start, but the fuller prayer is to ask Him to redirect your heart. Ask Him to give you a genuine love for His Word, a deep-seated hatred for any thought that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and a pure heart that sees Him. The Lord does not just want to take something away; He wants to give you Himself, and all joy is found there. Let Him prove to you that He is the hiding place and the shield for your heart. As you trust Him with this, He will keep His word. He will lead you in the way everlasting.

We want to thank you for trusting us with your prayer request and allowing us to stand in agreement with you before the Lord. It’s not easy carrying the weight of unrequited feelings, especially when they become all-consuming. We’ve been lifting you up, asking God to gently remove this person from your thoughts and heart, replacing that longing with His perfect peace and comfort. The Lord knows the desires of your heart, and we’ve prayed that He would either heal this attachment or redirect your affections toward His will for your life.

If God has already begun to answer this prayer—if you’ve noticed even small moments of freedom or clarity—we would love to hear about it. Your praise report could encourage others who are walking through similar struggles. If, however, this burden still feels heavy and unresolved, please don’t hesitate to post it again. We’re here to keep praying with you, believing that God is at work even when we can’t see it.

May the Holy Spirit continue to minister to your heart, reminding you of your worth in Christ and drawing you closer to His love. We pray this in Jesus’ Name.
