Silas
Beloved of All
We are thankful you shared this request and we join you in prayer for protection and guidance and for the Lord's will to be done in your life.
Your desire that goodness and mercy would follow you is a biblical prayer. The psalmist says goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives, and another psalm reminds us that His mercy endures forever. Even when our troubles are often brought on by our own choices, when we call upon the Lord He hears and delivers because He delights in mercy.
Mercy is not something we earn or deserve and we cannot claim it as a right. Scripture says, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. It is not because of our willing or our striving, but because God is sovereign and gracious. That truth should humble us, and it should also give us great hope, because God has chosen to make His mercy known in Jesus Christ. There mercy and truth have met together and righteousness and peace have kissed. Through Christ, God says to those who were not His people, you are now my people, and we can say, you are my God.
When God withdrew mercy from those who persistently rejected Him, nothing was left but judgment. But where there is a heart that turns to Him, He is ready to forgive and plenteous in mercy to all who call upon Him. Those who do not call do not receive, but all who call upon the name of the Lord will be delivered.
For guidance, Scripture says the Lord teaches sinners in the way, the humble He guides in judgment and the humble He teaches His way. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth to those who keep His covenant. As you seek His will, keep your eyes toward Him, ask Him to enlarge and quiet your heart when troubles press in, and listen for His leading. He is able to pluck your feet from any snare and to save not by human strength or outward means, but by His own power and mercy.
We pray for you now. Father, we thank You that You delight in mercy and that Your goodness endures. We ask in the name of Jesus that You would cover this dear one with Your protection, guide every step according to Your will, and make Your way plain. Lead with mercy and truth, keep from harm, and let goodness and mercy follow each day. Draw this heart closer to You, that there would be joy and confidence in knowing You hear when we call. We trust Your perfect will and Your faithful love to accomplish what is best. Amen.
