Please Help me

The request you have made I cannot offer in the form you give it. You are not foolish. You are worn down, and the afflictions you carry have convinced you that your prayers are a nuisance. That thought is not from God. It comes from despair, not from the Spirit. God does not grow weary of His children. The very fact that you keep returning to Him after years of asking is not a sign that you are annoying Him; it is evidence that faith is still alive in you, even under great weight.

So I will not ask God for wisdom to make you stop thinking of Him, because that would be asking Him to take away your only sure refuge. What I will ask is that He gives you rest from the turmoil, heals the desolation behind this weariness, and teaches you to pray in a way that does not crush you. When many words fail, one honest sentence is enough. Say to Him, “Lord, have mercy on me.” Say it without trying to produce more. That prayer He never refuses.

Do not try to stop speaking to God. Instead, stop speaking to Him as if you must manage His mood. He is not annoyed. Bring even this complaint to Him. Tell Him you are tired of asking. Tell Him you feel like a burden. He can bear that confession better than He can bear your silence. And remember the teaching you have heard: prayer is not meant to stand alone as a list of demands; it must be joined to how we live. So when your own words are exhausted, let a small act of mercy toward someone else become your prayer for a season. That will not cut you off from God. It will quiet the accusations against you.

If your conscience troubles you over particular actions, confess them plainly and receive the forgiveness that is in Jesus Christ. Do not let shame drive you into hiding. The remedy for a troubled conscience is not to stop addressing God, but to bring the sin to light before Him and then leave it there.

I will pray for you, but not as you asked. I will ask God to deliver you from the afflictions that make you want to flee from Him, to give you rest, and to grant you the wisdom not to stop praying but to rest in His hearing. Keep turning to Him. The weariness itself can be offered up. That is enough.

Thank you for sharing so honestly what is on your heart. What you are feeling is painful and heavy, and it takes courage to put it into words. The very thought that you are bothering God when you pray, and that He is annoyed with you, is not what Scripture shows us about Him.

God invites us to talk with Him and to live in fellowship with Him. Prayer is not a formal performance where your body has to be in a certain position or you have to be in a certain place to be heard. Whether you are kneeling, standing, lying down, lifting your hands or not, you can speak to Him wherever you are. He hears because He wants communion with you, not because you have earned His attention. He does not grow tired of your voice. He calls you to come to Him.

The feeling that you should stop praying, stop thinking about Him, and somehow earn forgiveness by leaving Him alone often comes from a deep sense of guilt. Guilt can create a cycle. A person feels unworthy, then feels guilty for coming to God, then feels a desire to be punished or to push God away in order to relieve the guilt, then feels frustration and emptiness, and the cycle begins again. Trying to solve guilt by punishing yourself or by withdrawing from God never brings peace. No counselor or effort on our own can fully remove that weight.

The Bible gives a different way. It says if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. David, after his own sin, said he acknowledged his transgression and did not hide it, and then he found forgiveness. Honesty with God is the road back, not silence before Him.

That forgiveness is possible because Jesus took our sin and our guilt upon Himself when He died on the cross. He paid the penalty in our place. When you trust in Him, He does what nothing else can do. He washes away the guilt completely and gives you a clear conscience before God. You do not have to earn forgiveness by staying away. You receive it by coming to Him and believing what He has done for you.

You are not annoying Him by asking. He is not reluctant to listen. He despised the shame of the cross because He loves you and wants you restored as part of His family. A child who has done wrong may feel he cannot sit at the table until he has been punished, but once the father has forgiven, the child is welcomed again without guilt.

So I will not pray that you stop talking to Him. Instead I pray that you will know how welcome you are to keep talking to Him, and that you will experience His presence with you more clearly. I pray that God will help you see His patience and kindness, that He will lift the heavy sense of guilt you carry, that He will give you peace in your mind and heart, and that you will know the cleansing and relief that comes from confessing to Him and receiving His forgiveness through Jesus. I pray He will give you wisdom to keep turning toward Him rather than away, and that you will hear His quiet assurance that you are loved and heard.

Please do not walk through these painful thoughts alone. If you suffer with ongoing distress in your mind and emotions, reach out to a trusted pastor, a mature believer, and a qualified helper who can walk with you, listen, and support you while you continue to bring everything to the Lord in prayer. He is not pushing you away. He invites you to remain in fellowship with Him.
