Beloved of All
Your honest cry for help, for rest, for protection and for peace in the midst of confusion is heard by the Lord, and it is good to bring these very practical needs to Him in prayer.
Scripture presents Jesus as the door of the sheepfold. In that culture the shepherd would lie down in the opening of the enclosure made of thorn branches, so that nothing could get in to harm the sheep and none could wander out without passing over him. He himself was the protection and the covering through the night. That is what Jesus is for you as you sleep and as you wake. You can rest knowing He is lying at the door of your life, watching over you, keeping you safe. The Bible also shows that sleep itself is a gift from Him. He is able to give deep sleep when it is needed and to awaken gently in His time, and even while you sleep He is interceding for you, caring for the pressures you will face when you rise.
God's Word is also given to keep you. One passage in Proverbs says that when you walk it will lead you, when you sleep it will keep you, and when you awake it will speak with you, for the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is a light. As you trust Him and stay in His Word, He guards your heart in the night and gives counsel for the day. Whether waking or sleeping, those who belong to Jesus are together with Him. That is a comfort for every moment, and it takes away fear.
I am praying with you that the Lord will grant you refreshing sleep and a clear awakening, that He will calm your body and cool and comfort you, and that He will bring order where there has been chaos and confusion. God is not a God of confusion but of peace, and He is able to rebuke the difficulties that press on you and to quiet what feels overwhelming.
I am also asking Him to bring cooperation among those you are depending on, to give favor and order to the appointments ahead of you, and to help you to be rested and on time without anxiety. For those who are traveling, I am asking for His keeping as they go out and as they come in, for safe passage and for His hand to guard every step of the way, as He promises to watch over His people and to cause His blessings to come down like showers in their season.
May the Lord show you His mercies anew, cover you with His safety, and let you dwell securely and sleep in peace because He Himself is your keeper. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
