Peaceful sleep

It is no small thing to carry stress and anxiety into the night, and you are right to bring it to the Father. The kind of peace that allows us to sleep soundly does not come from emptying our minds or forcing ourselves to relax; it flows from a life that has made peace with God through Jesus Christ. When we trust in His sacrifice, the war within ceases. We are no longer running or striving, and that reconciliation opens the door to a deep, steady calm that the world cannot give and cannot take away.

The promise stands: God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him. That means we stop staring at the problems and start fixing our eyes on the Lord. We hand the entire tangled situation over to Him and say, “It is in Your hands, and I trust You with it.” There is no rest in our own efforts, skills, or frantic planning; real rest begins the moment we abandon ourselves to His care and acknowledge that He alone is able.

Think of the sheep lying down in safety, not because there are no dangers, but because the Shepherd has made Himself the door. Nothing can reach you without crossing over Him. The Lord has ordained peace for His people. He wants you to sleep in that confidence. The righteous will enter into peace; they will rest in their beds. So tonight, let your heart be quiet before Him. You have already prayed and placed this in His hands. Now leave it there. May His Spirit calm the anxious thoughts and bring you the restful sleep that belongs to those who rest in Him.
