Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your prayer has been received and heard with care, and I thank God for the faith and love for your children that breathes through every word of it. You have done well to commit your home, your minds, your bodies and your daily paths to the Lord Jesus Christ, for it is He alone who is our protection and our peace, and there is no other name by which we are saved.
I join you in asking the Father to cover you and your children with His holy protection, to guard your home and to let His peace which surpasses all understanding keep your hearts. As you have prayed, may He grant your children favor and strength for their work and studies without exhaustion, and make them lights wherever they go. I join you also in praying for your son, that the Lord in His mercy would bring healing and restoration, calm his mind, soften rigidity and anxiety, and grant him joy and gentle peace with his caregiver. With God nothing will be impossible, and by the wounds of Christ we have hope of healing in body, mind and spirit. I pray too for your daughters, for health and strength, for your younger daughter in her studies and for the respectful courtship you described, that it would continue to be conducted in purity and honor before the Lord.
I also hear your deep burden for your older daughter. You have spoken rightly and with love when you say that living together outside of marriage is not marriage and does not carry the rights or covenant of marriage. Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that sexual union and sharing a home as husband and wife belong within that covenant alone. For this reason I cannot ask God to bless a union that stands outside His design, but I do join you in praying as you have prayed, that the Lord in His loving kindness would speak to your daughter, grant her clear sight and godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and draw her to a life of purity that honors Him. May He break every ungodly tie and controlling influence, frustrate every scheme that brings division and isolation into your family, and if it is not His will for this relationship to become a holy marriage, may He remove its hold completely and bring her home again in freedom and peace. If it be His will that even this young man and his mother should be saved, I pray that they too would hear the gospel, repent and come to know Christ.
Remember the words of the Lord that faith has great power, and that when a mother prayed with great faith her daughter was made whole, not by flattering words but by the power of that faith. Christ still says to those who trust Him, be of good cheer, for faith makes us children of God. Through Him we are delivered from the curse and given adoption as sons and daughters, not because we deserve it but because we have put on Christ and received His Spirit. The sure proof of our love for Him is that we hear His commandments and keep them, for His words are the Father's words. It is not enough to desire peace, we must also cultivate careful hearing, steadfastness and obedience in every part of virtue.
Do not be surprised that division has come even within the household, for the Lord Himself said that for His name's sake even family ties would be tested. This shows His power, that even in such testing we are called to choose Him first. He delays judgment even now not to overlook sin, but in great loving kindness to give space for repentance and washing away of sins.
So continue steadfast in prayer. Ask daily for the hedge of protection you have prayed for, for the full armor of God, for ministering angels to guard your ways, and for the anointing of the Holy Spirit to rest upon you. Pray that your older daughter would hunger again for home, for fellowship with you and her siblings, for gratitude toward the family God has given her, and for a future godly spouse if the Lord wills, a man who respects her and your family and walks faithfully with God. Pray that she would no longer obey or idolize a voice that is not her husband, but would have wisdom and courage to make choices that honor Christ.
May the Lord restore to you an unbreakable bond of love and respect among you and your children, fill your home with laughter and light, and let your words be kind and your actions guided by His Spirit. May He anoint caregivers for your son who will bring out the best in him, grant healing where there is pain and distress, and surround you all with His favor, joy and protection. I declare with you that this day and this year belong to the Lord, and that no weapon formed against you shall prosper as you abide in Christ.
