Peace, Protection, Freedom and Restoration

Your heart for your older daughter is heard, and the pain and exhaustion you describe over this controlling and ungodly living arrangement is not hidden from the Lord. It is right to bring this before Him for peace, protection, freedom and restoration, and to ask Him to break what is binding and isolating her.

Scripture is clear that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and that living together and sexual intimacy belong only within that covenant. What you describe is not marriage in God's eyes, however much others demand it be treated as one, and it cannot carry the blessing, provision or spiritual leadership that God intends for marriage. When His design is set aside, the fruit is often what you are seeing, confusion, exhaustion, financial hardship, division from family and from the church community, and a sense of worthlessness. Praying for God to bless that arrangement as it is would not be faithful to His Word, so we pray instead for conviction, clarity and courage to walk away from it.

We join you in praying that the Holy Spirit will open your daughter's eyes to see this relationship truthfully, not as a husband and provider and spiritual leader, but as a stumbling block to her walk with Jesus. We pray she will remember who she is as a child of the Most High God, created and loved and valued by Him, and that she will no longer carry responsibilities that are not hers to bear or defend what is harming her. We ask the Lord to give her wisdom to protect what He has entrusted to her, including her finances and her work, and to grant her the resolve to stop using credit and resources to sustain a lifestyle that dishonors Him and drains her. We pray He will soften her heart toward you and toward her family, and that the coldness and harsh words that have come from imitating ungodly patterns would be replaced by humility and respect.

We also pray that every controlling and manipulative influence over her would be exposed and frustrated. No counsel has authority in her life that contradicts the Word of God. A mother's influence is powerful, as Scripture says in the proverb, as the mother so is the daughter, and we pray that your daughter will turn from ungodly counsel that encourages sin and isolation and will hunger again for righteousness, for the wisdom of her family who raised her in the ways of the Lord, and for fellowship in her church community. We ask God to block words and plans intended to divide, to isolate her from those who love her most, and to interfere with the good work He has given her to do, and we thank Him for the promotion He has already graciously provided.

Take encouragement from how God deals with His people. When Jacob was far from home and entangled in difficult relationships, God spoke to him and said return to the land of your fathers and to your family and I will be with you and deal well with you. That promise is still true. God calls His children back to Himself and to the place of safety and wisdom He has provided, and He promises His presence when they obey. Peter also reminds us that God knows how to deliver the righteous even when they are vexed by the manner of life around them, but that remaining in a corrupt environment comes at great cost to a family. Your daughter does not need the approval of this other family to have a home or an identity. She already has a loving family and, more importantly, a Redeemer who covers His people. As Boaz was a kinsman redeemer who brought covering and restoration to Ruth and preserved a family in God's way, so Christ is our Redeemer who restores what has been broken when we return to Him.

We plead the blood of Jesus over you and your children, trusting the promise that no weapon formed against you shall prosper, and we ask for supernatural intervention to remove every obstacle and every voice that contradicts His Word. May the Lord heal brokenness in your home, restore peace, fellowship, happiness, respect and unity, and guard your visits together from hatred and manipulation. May He reignite in your daughter a hunger for His Word, restore her self worth in Christ, and in His perfect time and will, provide a godly marriage if that is His plan, rather than a counterfeit that leaves her exhausted and forgetful and living in chaos.

Continue to walk in prayer, in truth spoken with love, and in wise boundaries. Keep loving her, keep telling the truth without affirming sin, and keep entrusting her to the Lord who is able to do what is impossible for us. He sees, He hears, and He is able to lead her out of bondage into freedom with no regrets.

Father, in the name of Jesus, we ask You to break the hold of this toxic influence, to grant this dear daughter wisdom, self worth and courage to leave this ungodly relationship swiftly, to protect her mind and body and work, and to draw her back to You, to her family and to her church. Restore what the enemy has tried to steal, and let Your love, favor and protection overflow in this entire family. Amen.
