Peace, Protection and Restoration

You speak of peace and protection for your son, and that is a good desire. But consider what I have often taught: there are three kinds of war. The first is public, when armies clash. The second is private, when men strive against one another. But the third is the most dangerous of all, when a man is at war within himself, when his body fights against his soul, when evil desires and passions rise up like enemies. This is the war that brings eternal wounds if not quelled. Your son’s turmoil, his agitation and fear over meals, is the outward sign of that inward battle. Do not seek merely that he be calm and eat peacefully for the sake of a quiet night. Seek instead that the tyrant within him be cast down, that the passions which torment him be put to death, so that true peace may reign.

You have prayed that the Lord saturate him with calm and gentleness, and you have pleaded the blood of Christ over your household. This is right, for only Christ can give the rest He promised: “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He did not promise a rest of mere outward ease, but a rest that secures the soul in all godliness and honesty. Yet examine your own heart as well. Do you approach the Lord with a pure heart, without deceit, without contention? For it is those who call upon Him out of a pure heart that are heard. Let there be no strife in your own soul, no resentment over this trial, but let all be surrendered to Him. Remember that the peace the world gives is fleeting and often a snare; but the peace that comes from union with Christ makes us stronger than any outward disturbance.

Perhaps the disorder you see in your son is like a diseased limb that must be cut off for the health of the whole body. I do not speak of harming him, but of praying boldly that whatever is not of God in his habits or thoughts be removed, even if it causes momentary pain. The Lord Himself said He came not to send peace on earth, but a sword, to sever the corrupt from the sound. Trust in the Physician who amputates to save. So pray with tears, but also with confidence. Do not be consumed by fear of poverty or sleeplessness; fear rather lest any in your house fall into hell through unrepented sin. Set your own soul in order first, for a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness begins within. Then, with that peace firmly rooted, you will be able to intercede with power for your son, that the raging of his inner enemies may be stilled by the voice of Christ, who alone commands the storms and brings great calm.

Your plea for peace in your household and for your son's calm spirit is heard, and it rests on a sure foundation. The deep, settled peace you are asking for is a fruit of something more foundational still. True wisdom, the kind that orders a life and quiets the heart, begins and is summed up in the fear of the Lord. This is not a terror that makes one run and hide, but a profound reverence, a hatred of evil, and a turning away from everything that is not of Him. That is the very thing you asked when you prayed for God to remove anything not of Himself.

This is the path that leads away from torment and fear. The Proverbs speak directly to a son, the counsel of a father and the law of a mother, holding out this very promise: "Length of days, long life, and peace shall they add to you." This is not a superficial calm, but the quietness that comes from deliverance of the fear of evil. For your son to eat his meal with satisfaction and rest without agitation, his heart needs an anchor beyond the present moment. His mind and spirit need to be fixed, not on the rigidity of a habit or the fear of a meal, but on the One who is the Prince of Peace.

The peace you seek has two dimensions. There is peace with God, which comes when we cease our war and rebellion and are reconciled to Him through the sacrifice of His own Son. This is the peace purchased by the very blood you plead over your household. But then there is the peace of God, the calm assurance that guards the heart and mind. This peace comes as we keep our eyes stayed on Him, trusting Him explicitly in the whirlwind of the moment. The promise is sure: "You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You."

This is the instruction for the wise son. The Father corrects and instructs those He loves, as a son in whom He delights. This is not a rejection but the very proof of belonging, an adoption into His family. The Spirit sent into our hearts cries out to the Father, and it is in that relationship that fear dissolves. The rigid, angry agitation is not from the Spirit of sonship. The Son of God came to bring peace, leaving it as a gift not as the world gives. As that peace rules his heart, the torment is pushed out.

Let us pray into that reality. We do not plead a weapon that can fail; we stand on the finished work of Christ.

Lord, we bring this son before You now. You know every fearful thought, every rigid cycle, and the turmoil that steals his rest. We ask that You would reveal Yourself to Him, not as a distant judge, but through the love of the Father who gave His only Son. Help him to make choices that align with health and peace, not driven by fear, but by a quiet and obedient spirit. Saturate him, Lord, with Your calm. Let Your peace that passes all understanding stand guard over his mind and heart at the table and in the night. For those in the household, we claim Your promise that perfect peace is found in a mind fixed on You. Remove every spirit that is not of You, and let the Spirit of adoption cry out in that home, bringing a peaceful and restful night. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing in prayer with you for your son and your family. It has been on our hearts to lift him up before the Lord, asking for His peace to wash over him, His protection to surround him, and His restoration to bring healing to his mind and habits. We have prayed that the Holy Spirit would fill him with calm, gentleness, and obedience, replacing fear and agitation with the peace that only God can provide. We have also prayed that the Lord would remove anything not of Him from your home and that the blood of Jesus would cover your son and your entire household, shielding you all from any weapon formed against you.

If the Lord has answered these prayers in the days since you posted, we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If it seems like the struggle is still ongoing, please know that we are here to continue standing with you in prayer. You are not alone in this, and we encourage you to post this request again so we can keep lifting your son and your family up before the throne of grace.

May the Lord bless you and your household as you continue to seek Him. May His presence bring comfort, His Word bring direction, and His love bring hope. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
