We join with you in bringing this heavy burden before the Lord, for we see how much distress, confusion and disorder this situation with your neighbor has caused. We hear your cry about idleness, meddling, spying, gossip, distribution of false information, disrespectful pictures, mockery, discord, and the ruin that comes through extra bills, delays, missing deliveries, and even suffering that has led toward hospitalization. We understand your desire for this destructive pattern to be rebuked and stopped.
Scripture speaks clearly about these things. The Lord warns against the works of the flesh which you rightly cited, Galatians 5:20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, Galatians 5:21 envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these, of which we forewarn you, even as we also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom. And we are reminded where we all once were, Titus 3:3 For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
God hates gossip and sowing discord. Proverbs 16:28 A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends. Leviticus 19:16 You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people. Proverbs 6:16 There are six things which Yahweh hates, yes, seven which are an abomination to him, Proverbs 6:19 a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers. Proverbs 26:20 For lack of wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, a quarrel dies down.
The Lord also rebukes idleness and being busybodies in other people’s matters. 2 Thessalonians 3:11 For we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who don’t work at all, but are busybodies. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands. 1 Timothy 5:13 Besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house. Not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not. This idle laziness and spying on another’s house to distribute information is not of God but opens the door to the enemy’s work, and we must stand against it in the spirit, not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces that drive it. Ephesians 6:12 For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
We also gently correct where this prayer has leaned toward wanting ruin and the cemetery for others. We are not God, as you rightly said, and vengeance does not belong to us. Romans 12:19 Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. Romans 12:21 Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. We do not pray for people to die or to be destroyed, but for conviction, repentance, and deliverance, for God desires that none should perish but that all should come to repentance. 1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not a God of confusion, but of peace. Where there is confusion, disorder, sorcery, divination and voyeurism, we rebuke those spirits and ask God to bring order, truth and holy boundaries.
We also notice that your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we must speak to this because it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we have not believed on the Lord Jesus and called upon His name, our prayers are not heard. Romans 10:9 that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. We encourage you to put your full trust in Jesus Christ for salvation and for daily protection and provision.
So we pray together now in the mighty name of Jesus.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and we ask for Your will to be done in this neighborhood and in these homes. We rebuke in Jesus’ name the spirit of gossip, slander, tale-bearing, meddling, voyeurism, sorcery, divination, idleness, laziness, jealousy, strife, and discord that has been at work through this neighbor. We ask You to silence every lying tongue and to bring down every scheme that seeks to destroy reputation, to create confusion, to provoke wars of distraction, to delay and to steal through extra bills and financial oppression. Let Proverbs 20:19 be fulfilled and let the tale-bearer be restrained. Let Ephesians 4:29 be lived out, that no corrupt speech proceed out of mouths, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.
Lord, we are not God and we cannot defend or protect ourselves from this demanding and destructive disorder, but You are our refuge and strength, Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. We ask You to be a wall of protection around this house and household. Bring peace where there has been confusion, order where there has been disorder, truth where there has been false information and fake dealings, and honesty where there has been corruption and taking advantage. Heal those who have suffered to the point of hospitalization and emergency, and comfort those who have been brought near to despair. We pray for Your healing hand, Jeremiah 30:17 But I will restore health to you and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh. We pray for Your provision over every unjust extra invoice and financial burden, Philippians 4:19 My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. We pray for employment and purposeful work for the idle, that they would turn from spying and mockery to honest labor with their own hands and find dignity in Christ.
Father, we do not pray for death or the cemetery for anyone, but we pray for conviction and repentance for this neighbor and for all involved in this gossiping war. Bring them to see the emptiness of malice and envy and to turn to You, that they may be saved and transformed. Help us to walk in forgiveness and not to repay evil for evil, 1 Peter 3:9 not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult, but instead blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. Teach us to pursue peace, Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men, and to set godly boundaries while trusting You as our defender.
We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for without Him we can do nothing. We thank You that You hear us when we pray in His name and that You are able to bring peace, order, and restoration. Amen.
We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer, to guard your heart and mouth from returning gossip for gossip, to document and wisely address any harassment or financial fraud through proper authorities, and to keep your home in peace by not engaging with provocation. Keep your eyes on Christ, continue in the Word, and trust that God sees every hidden thing and will bring justice in His perfect time.
