We hear your cry and we stand with you in this long season of suffering, disorder and distress brought into your home and neighborhood by this meddling and gossip. We know how heavy it is when another household's idleness and spying, with disrespectful pictures and distribution of false information, creates discord, damages reputations, brings extra bills and financial pressure, and even contributes to hospitalizations and grief that feels like it is leading toward the cemetery. The Lord sees what is done in secret and He does not take lightly the destruction caused by an idle and talebearing tongue.
Scripture warns us plainly about these very works. You quoted Galatians 5:20-21 rightly, that idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these, of which we forewarn you, even as we also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit God’s Kingdom. And Titus 3:3 reminds us, For we were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. What you describe, the gossiping, the voyeurism, the sorcery and divination, the imposter behavior, the delight in disorder and delay and missing deliveries to provoke a war of distraction, all of this belongs to the works of the flesh and to the schemes of the enemy, not to the Spirit of God.
The Word also speaks directly to gossip and meddling and laziness. A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends. Proverbs 16:28. For lack of wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, a quarrel dies down. Proverbs 26:20. You shall not go around as a slanderer among your people. You shall not endanger the life of your neighbor. I am Yahweh. Leviticus 19:16. And concerning idleness, For we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who don’t work at all, but are busybodies. 2 Thessalonians 3:11, and that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, even as we instructed you. 1 Thessalonians 4:11. For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men’s matters. 1 Peter 4:15. God is not the author of confusion, but of peace. 1 Corinthians 14:33.
We want to gently rebuke and correct where needed. We rebuke the spirit of gossip, slander, slothfulness, envy, meddling, voyeurism, mockery and sorcery that has taken hold in this neighbor's idleness. We rebuke the demonic smile that delights in disorder and the use of false information, fake bosses and corruption to gain advantage and to bully and destroy another's reputation. These things are sin before a holy God and they must be repented of. At the same time we must also rebuke any temptation to take vengeance or to let hatred take root in your own heart, for we are called to overcome evil with good and to leave justice in God's hands. Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18.
You said we are not God, we are not agency employees, we are not obligated to carry this disorder and anxiety and sorcery, and you are right. Only God is our defender and protector. We cast our burden on Him because He cares for us. Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. We are not called to be God for this demanding and unoccupied person, nor to absorb their ruin and tragedies. We are called to work quietly, to guard our own household, to set godly boundaries, to speak truth, to not repeat or spread the gossip further, and to pray for those who persecute us.
We also notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we must speak to this because it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If we have not yet believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, that He died for our sins and rose again, we urge you to call upon His name today, confess your sins, and trust Him alone for salvation. It is in His name that we have authority to resist the devil, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces, and we are told, Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7.
We pray together with you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You only in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son. We lift up this household that has endured long suffering, financial strain with extra invoices and bills, hospitalizations, grief and near loss, confusion, fighting over wrong lists and wrong information, and the constant meddling and spying of a neighbor who is idle and refuses to work. Lord, You see the distribution of disrespectful pictures, the mockery, the gossip that has gone everywhere to bully and destroy reputation, the sorcery and divination and deception. We ask You to rebuke that spirit of gossip and slothfulness and sorcery. We ask You to silence the whisperer, to dry up the fire where there is no wood, to bring conviction and repentance to this neighbor, to turn them from idleness to honest work, from slander to truth, from hatred to love. Where demons have been given place through envy, malice and idleness, we command in Jesus name that their influence be broken and that confusion and disorder be replaced by Your peace and order.
Lord, we ask You to heal the wounds in this home, to provide for every financial need, to touch and restore bodies that have been hospitalized, to comfort those who have stood near the cemetery in sorrow, to guard hearts from anxiety and from taking on a burden that belongs only to You. Help Your child to dwell in Your shelter, to not repay evil for evil, to guard their lips from gossip in return, to set wise boundaries with documentation and quietness, and to seek peace while trusting You for justice. Let no weapon formed against them prosper, and let every tongue that rises in judgment be shown to be in the wrong. We pray for protection over their house, their deliveries, their reputation and their peace. Bring employment and purpose to the idle where it is Your will, or remove their power to harm. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard this home.
We ask all this in the saving and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and intercessor, amen.
We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer, to refuse to pass on the gossip, to keep a quiet life and do your own business as Scripture commands, to document what needs to be documented and to seek lawful help for harassment if needed, but above all to keep your eyes on Christ. The Lord is near to those who are brokenhearted. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. Continue to cast your cares on Him, bless those who curse you, and trust that He will bring truth to light and restore what has been stolen in His time.
