We hear your distress and we stand with you in prayer against this heavy burden of meddling, gossip, idleness and disorder that has brought ruin, suffering and even hospitalization and disgrace near your home.

We rebuke together the spirit of gossip and talebearing, the spirit of idleness and slothfulness, and every work of sorcery and malice that seeks to destroy a neighbor's reputation and peace. The word of God is clear that these things are not from Him. Galatians 5:19-21 says the works of the flesh are obvious, which are adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these, of which we forewarn you, even as we also forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the Kingdom of God. And Titus 3:3 reminds us at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another, but God in His mercy calls us out of that darkness.

Scripture warns us plainly about the destructive power of an idle and meddling tongue. Leviticus 19:16 says you shall not go around as a slanderer among your people. Proverbs 11:13 says one who gossips betrays a confidence, but one who is of a trustworthy spirit is one who keeps a secret. Proverbs 16:28 says a perverse man stirs up strife, and a whisperer separates close friends. Proverbs 26:20 says for lack of wood a fire goes out, where there is no whisperer, contention ceases. And 1 Peter 4:15 says let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or a meddler in other men's matters.

We also see that unemployment and idleness when given over to sin becomes a doorway for the enemy to make a person a busybody. 2 Thessalonians 3:11 says for we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who do not work at all, but are busybodies. 1 Timothy 5:13 says besides, they also learn to be idle, going about from house to house, being not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not. 1 Thessalonians 4:11 says that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands. God calls each of us to mind our own work and to love our neighbor, not to spy, mock, distribute disrespectful pictures, invent false information, or create confusion and discord for a demonic smile.

We understand your cry when you say we are not God, we are not agency employees, we are not obligated to carry this disorder and sorcery and anxiety that is being transferred onto you. That is true. We are not called to be God for others nor to bear the destructive laziness of another. We are called to cast our cares on the Lord and to set godly boundaries. Psalm 34:17 says the righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. Romans 12:19 says do not seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath, for it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord.

We also notice that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we must gently and lovingly address this because it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and power to rebuke darkness. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ, for His name alone breaks the power of gossip, sorcery, jealousy and every demonic assignment.

So we pray together now in the mighty name of Jesus.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We ask for Your mercy and Your justice over this situation. We rebuke in Jesus name every spirit of gossip, slander, idleness, laziness, meddling, voyeurism, mockery, sorcery, divination, jealousy, hatred and selfish ambition that has been operating through this neighbor. We command that spirit of confusion, disorder, delay, destruction and discord to be bound and to leave, and we ask You to silence every lying tongue and every disrespectful image and false report. Proverbs 20:19 says he who goes about as a tale-bearer reveals secrets, therefore do not keep company with him who opens wide his lips. Lord, close the mouth of the tale-bearer and let the fire of contention go out.

Lord, we ask You to protect this household, to guard their reputation, their health, their home and their finances from extra bills, false invoices, missing deliveries and increasing prices brought by corruption and taking advantage. We pray for healing for those who have suffered hospitalizations and deep suffering that has almost brought them to the cemetery. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Bring restoration, peace and order where there has been war and disaster. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, as Philippians 4:7 promises.

Father, we pray also for this neighbor who is idle and destructive. Have mercy on them and bring them to repentance, that they may turn from slothfulness and malice and seek honest work and a quiet life with their own hands. Convict them of their sin and show them that their time is being used for destruction, and lead them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, that they may be delivered from the enslavement of passions and pleasures described in Titus 3:3.

Lord, teach us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us as Matthew 5:44 calls us to do, while also giving us wisdom to set boundaries, to not repay evil for evil, to speak truth in love, and to seek help from proper authorities when there is harassment, spying or intimidation. Help us to keep our own lips from gossip and to use our mouths only for what is good for building up, as Ephesians 4:29 says let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

We trust that You see all, that You are our defender and protector, and that no weapon formed against us will prosper. We rest in Your justice and Your timing, and we ask all this in the name above every name, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to remain steadfast in prayer, to stay in the Word daily, to not engage in returning gossip or mockery, to document what is needed quietly and to seek wise godly counsel and, if necessary, lawful help for protection while continuing to entrust your reputation and your household to the Lord who judges righteously. Your words reveal a heavy and painful trial, and the burden of a neighbor's idle meddling, gossip, and disorder has evidently pressed long upon your household, bringing confusion, extra costs, anxiety, and even bodily suffering in its train. Such things are grievous to bear, and it is right to bring them before the Lord, who sees all that is done in secret and who judges righteously.

The Scripture you have quoted speaks truly. Idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, selfishness, dissensions, factions, envy and the like are works of the flesh, and those who live in them shall not inherit the kingdom of God. And as you have also noted, at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. This reminds us that while we must firmly rebuke sin, we must also remember that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and that the only hope for any soul, whether your own or your neighbor's, is repentance and faith in Him.

Concerning the spirit of gossip, slothfulness, voyeurism, and meddling which you describe, we do pray that the Lord would rebuke it. May He restrain every tongue that distributes false information, every eye that spies upon another man's house, every hand that sows discord and destroys reputation for sport or for gain. May He bring to nothing the devices of sorcery and divination and all pretended knowledge of hidden things, for these are abominations before Him. And may He convict those who live in idleness and find delight in disorder, that they may be turned from destructive ways to honest labor and to love of neighbor.

At the same time, hear the counsel of our Saviour, who would not have His people to be eaten up with care. Do not be so affected by external things as to get into a state of worry, fretfulness, care, anxiety and distress. Be prudent, as you ought to be, and do what is right and honest in your own place, but do not give way to an anxiety which unfits you to meet the very difficulty which troubles you. I have never discovered that anxiety has comforted anybody, or that it has brought any grist to the mill, or any meal to the barrel. If a thing does not pay, what is the good of it. Cast your care upon Him who cares for you, and wait upon God in childlike trust for providential guidance, daring not to lean upon your own understanding.

You say rightly, we are not God. We are not called to defend or protect ourselves by taking His office upon us, nor to bear an obligation to carry the disorder and anxiety which others would lay upon us. Vengeance belongs to the Lord. If slander is the rod under which you are to smart, many of the Lord's people have felt it before you, and you need not complain as if a strange thing had happened to you. Let the Lord appoint what measure of care or calumny you shall bear, for He knows best. Let everyone look to himself, and let no man despise his neighbor, but rather let us love our neighbor as ourselves, not by indulging his sin, but by desiring his true good, which is his repentance and reconciliation to God.

There is a sure way of safety. He who travels on the King's Highway is under the King's protection, but he who takes to byroads must protect himself. Abide then in the appointed ways of truth, honesty, prayer, and faithful duty in your own household. As for the truths of God which He has taught you by His Spirit, grapple them to you as with hooks of steel, and do not go in the way of error, for there you cannot expect divine protection. This protection is personal and perpetual to those who walk with God, and He will give His angels charge over them in all their ways.

Let us pray together.

O Lord God Almighty, look upon this household which has been vexed by confusion, gossip, meddling, and every form of disorder. Rebuke, we beseech Thee, the spirit of idleness, envy, malice, and lying, and every work of sorcery and deceit. Put a bridle upon every tongue that loves to slander and a restraint upon every eye that pries without love. Forgive us where we have ourselves been anxious beyond what faith allows, and teach us to be prudent without being fretful. Deliver from the war of distraction, from unjust loss and extra burden, from sickness and sorrow that has come nigh unto the grave. Grant peace within these walls, honest labor for idle hands round about, and repentance where sin has reigned. Keep this dear soul and household in Thy appointed ways, under Thy perpetual keeping, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is our Saviour and our peace. Amen.

Your long and painful burden under gossip, meddling, spying, false reports and the disorder it has brought into your home, your finances and your health has been heard, and we bring it before the Lord with you.

Scripture names plainly what you are experiencing. Galatians 5:20 to 21 lists idolatry, sorcery, hatred, rivalry, jealousy, outbursts of fury, selfishness, dissensions, factions, envy and the like, and warns that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Titus 3:3 reminds us that we too once lived in malice and envy, hated and hating one another, enslaved by passions, before the mercy of Christ changed us. What you describe, an idle time that becomes destructive, using pictures and invented stories to bully, to ruin reputation, to create confusion over lists and ranks and numbers and bills, to provoke strife and to take advantage through meddling and even sorcery, belongs to those works of the flesh. God calls it sin and calls all people to repent of it.

The teaching of the church has long warned about the tongue. We are taught to cover and conceal the failings of neighbors, not to parade them under a show of zeal. When we repeat what we have heard, even saying God forgive me for repeating this, we still make the story more credible by passing it on, and we bring disgrace upon ourselves as well as upon the other. We are told to flee speaking evil against a neighbor, for we will be judged not by what the other has done but by what we have spoken, for by our words we will be condemned, even if what we say seems true. To bite and devour one another through wronging, accusing and slandering, to be vexed by the credit of a neighbor, fills a community with evils without us even noticing. And prayer itself is a great good and a guard for the soul, but it is great when we add works worthy of it. God will have mercy on us as we show mercy to our neighbor, for what we wish to obtain from God we ought first to give to our neighbor. To fast or to make great shows of piety while taking no thought for the neighbor accomplishes nothing. God has bound us together so that the good of one neighbor is bound up with the good of the other.

We join you in prayer and in rebuke of these evil practices. In the name of Jesus Christ, who alone is Savior and Lord, we rebuke the spirit of gossip, slander, idleness and laziness, voyeurism and spying, envy, malice, sorcery and divination, confusion, discord and mockery, and every demonic influence that seeks to bring disorder, delay, financial oppression through unjust extra bills, sickness and the threat of ruin. We ask the Lord to stop the distribution of false information, the disrespectful pictures, the fake meetings and false identities, the corruption and price gouging, and the war of distraction that has caused so much anxiety and suffering.

We pray that God would bring conviction where there is sin, and that He would protect you from further harm. May He guard your reputation, your household, your health and your provision, bring order where there has been disorder, truth where there have been lies, and peace where there has been fighting. May He give you wisdom to set right boundaries, for you are not God and you are not called to carry what only God can carry or to answer for what is not your obligation. May He deliver you from the anxiety and the long suffering that has brought you near to despair, and keep you from the grave until He has accomplished His good purpose in you. May He also work in the neighbors who have meddled, that they would turn from idleness to honest work, from spying to respect, from slander to love, and find mercy through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

We encourage you, as you pray, to walk in a way worthy of that prayer. Do not pass on the gossip even to denounce it, keep silence where you can, and refuse to give it further life. Guard your own lips, bless those who have wronged you rather than cursing them, and seek to love your neighbor as yourself, which is the sum of the commandments. Be diligent in the work God has given you, and do not return evil for evil. Seek peace with all as far as it depends on you, and trust God to be your defender and protector when others demand what they have no right to demand. If there are legal or financial wrongs, seek lawful and honest help without resorting to the same deceit. And continue to cast your cares on the Lord, who sees what is done in secret and will judge with justice.

May the Lord have mercy on you, grant you relief from this long trial, and establish your home in quietness, truth and security.
