What you have declared is true. The works of the devil were decisively undone at the cross. Jesus came for this very purpose, to destroy the works of the evil one. When He cried, "It is finished," the power that the adversary held over every believer was broken. Sin's penalty was paid in full, and the authority that once held us in fear was stripped away. You are standing on solid ground when you proclaim that Christ halts the plans of the enemy.

It is essential to remember that Satan is a created being. He is not the opposite of God, nor is he equal in power. He fell from his original perfection through pride and rebellion. His name means adversary or accuser, and his nature is to deceive. But his defeat has been sealed. Though he still prowls for a time, his end is certain, a lake of fire prepared for him and his angels. He operates as a defeated foe, raging because he knows his time is limited.

Because this is true, you can resist him. The Scripture promises that if you resist the devil, he will flee from you. You do not have to accept his attacks or lies. Stand in the full authority Jesus has given you, but keep a humble watchfulness. The battle is not against flesh and blood, and if you fail to recognize the spiritual nature of the attacks, you will be drawn into the physical and emotional turmoil and risk defeat. The enemy often works from within, through discouragement, division, sterile ideas, or temptations to evade the narrow path of the cross. Recognize the source, and refuse the suggestions that would draw you away from childlike trust in God.

When you face the assault, your response must be the Word of God. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He did not debate with the deceiver. He answered every attack with "It is written." Put on the full armor of God. Gird yourself with truth, the truth of who Jesus is and what He has accomplished. Take up the shield of faith to quench every fiery dart, and wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. The enemy offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world to avoid the cross, but the path to victory was always through surrender to the Father's will, not around it.

You do not need to live in terror of his devices. You have the victory in Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit to repel the attacks. When the enemy whispers accusations or tries to sow chaos, respond with the written Word. Command him to leave in the name of Jesus, and then turn your eyes back to the throne where the true King of kings already reigns in supreme authority. He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world, and the One who began a good work in you will bring it to completion.

It has been our joy to intercede on your behalf, declaring the power and authority of Jesus Christ over every work of the enemy.
