We thank you for humbly sharing this struggle with us and for your honesty in seeking prayer support. We stand with you in this battle and we praise God that you desire deliverance and freedom, for that desire itself shows the work of the Holy Spirit in you. We want you to know you are not alone and there is hope and power in Jesus Christ to set you free.
We want to speak truth to you in love as Scripture does. God created us male and female in His image and His design is good and intentional. So God created man in his own image. In the image of God he created him. Male and female he created them Genesis 1:27. You were fearfully and wonderfully made as a man, and God does not make mistakes in your identity Psalm 139:14. The feelings of same sex attraction and gender confusion you describe, including how you view your clothes, how you view other men, and how you view marriage and dating, do not align with God's design. Scripture is clear that homosexual behavior is sin, as are all sexual relations outside of the lifelong marriage covenant between one man and one woman. For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions, for their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men Romans 1:26-27. And we are told do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor male prostitutes, nor homosexuals will inherit God's Kingdom 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. We say this not to condemn you but to call what God calls sin by its true name so that you can be truly set free, for deliverance begins with agreeing with God and repenting.
The good news is that the same passage continues with hope. Such were some of you, but you were washed. But you were sanctified. But you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and in the Spirit of our God 1 Corinthians 6:11. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17. Your true identity is not in these attractions or confusions but in Christ as a son of God, a man created for His glory. God promises a way forward as you renew your mind. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind Romans 12:2 and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5. This means learning to take those intrusive thoughts captive when you walk in the streets or even at church, and choosing to think on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are pure Philippians 4:8. We encourage you to submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you James 4:7, to immerse yourself daily in the Word, to pursue accountable fellowship with mature believing men in your church, to guard your eyes and your thought life, and to flee from triggers and temptations knowing that God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with you the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13.
We also want to gently address that you called yourself a Christian but did not mention the name of Jesus in your request. We remind you with love that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name we are saved. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have truly put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confessed Him as Lord Romans 10:9, then you have His Spirit and His power to overcome. If you confess your sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9.
We now pray together for you.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up this dear brother to Your throne of grace. Lord, we thank You that You know him intimately and love him deeply. We ask for Your forgiveness where there has been sin in thought, desire, or deed, and we ask You to wash him and cleanse him by the blood of Jesus. Father, we rebuke in Jesus name the spirits of lust, homosexuality, and gender confusion that have harassed him, and we command them to leave and to have no more place in him. Fill him afresh with Your Holy Spirit. Restore to him a clear and joyful assurance of who he is as Your son, a man made in Your image. Renew his mind, Father, and heal how he sees himself, his clothes, other men, and Your holy design for marriage. Give him strength to take every thought captive to Christ, to resist the devil, and to walk in purity whether he is at home, on the streets, or in Your house of worship. Lead him, if it is Your will, toward a godly courtship that leads to marriage with a believing woman, a lifelong covenant that honors You, and help him to pursue holiness and not fornication. Surround him with godly brothers and pastors who will counsel him with truth and grace. Let him know that if the Son therefore will make you free, you will be free indeed John 8:36. We declare freedom, wholeness, and peace over him. In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to draw near to Jesus daily, to stay in the Scriptures, to pray without ceasing, and to not isolate yourself. Keep seeking godly counsel and do not grow weary, for God is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you.
