We join you in lifting up your precious mother before the Lord and we share your deep concern for her rapid changes and weakness. To see one who has always been active and strong minded now unable to walk, with very weak muscles, not eating, and speaking words that do not make sense is heartbreaking, and we understand why you are questioning whether migraines alone explain what is happening. We pray with you for clarity, for healing, and for wisdom for all who care for her.
We take comfort that the Lord is our healer and that He sees her frailty. He heals all your diseases Psalm 103:3 and He promises I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh Jeremiah 30:17. We are also reminded that Yahweh will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his bed of illness Psalm 41:3. Even when strength fails, God remains faithful, for He gives power to the weak and to him who has no might he increases strength Isaiah 40:29, and even to old age I am he, and even to gray hairs will I carry you Isaiah 46:4.
We pray together for her.
Father, in the name of Jesus we come before Your throne of grace for this dear mother. You know her body, her mind, and every medicine she is taking. We ask that whatever is afflicting her, whether it be migraines, neurological decline, medication effects, or something else not yet diagnosed, that You would lift it from her by Your mercy. Touch her brain and bring clarity to her speech and thoughts, restore strength to her legs and muscles, restore her appetite and nourish her body, and give her rest from debilitating pain. Guide her to the right doctors who will listen carefully, review every medication for safety in her age, and seek the true cause with thoroughness and compassion. Give her the care, nutrition, movement, and therapy she needs to regain strength. We ask that You would prolong her days according to Your will and let her feel Your presence and peace in her weakness. We pray this in Jesus name, amen.
We also lift up your brother who is caring for her far away. We know caregiving can be overwhelming and isolating, and it is understandable that he feels he must handle this alone while also feeling stretched beyond what he can do. We pray that the Lord will give him humility, rest, and an open heart to receive help. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ Galatians 6:2, and we pray he will experience that support as love and not as criticism. We pray that God will soften any defensiveness and give him wisdom to welcome family meetings and shared responsibility. Without consultation, plans are frustrated, but with many counselors they succeed Proverbs 15:22 and Where there is no counsel, plans fail, but in a multitude of counselors they are established Proverbs 15:22. We encourage you to continue to approach him with gentleness and honor, with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace Ephesians 4:2-3. A family meeting bathed in prayer, perhaps by phone or video if distance is great, can allow each of you to honor your mother as God commands Honor your father and your mother Exodus 20:12 and to share the load practically.
We encourage you to advocate lovingly and persistently for a second opinion. What you describe, the profound weakness, inability to walk, poor intake, and episodes of confusion that come and go, deserves a comprehensive evaluation beyond a single diagnosis. Please help ensure she sees a primary care physician who can coordinate a review with a neurologist and a geriatric specialist, and ask for a complete medication review with her doctor and pharmacist since you have concerns about side effects at her age. Do not stop or change any medicine without medical guidance, but do bring your research and questions openly to the doctors. Keep careful notes of when the confusion happens, how long it lasts, what she eats, how she sleeps, and her strength each day to share with them. Encourage gentle movement and nutrition as the doctors advise, and trust God to give wisdom, for If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5.
We also want to gently point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We bring this up in love because it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by calling on His name and trusting in His death and resurrection that we are saved and our prayers are heard. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved Romans 10:9. We pray in His name because He alone is our mediator and hope.
We will continue to pray that the Lord will guard your hearts with His peace that surpasses all understanding Philippians 4:6-7, that He will strengthen your mother day by day, that He will provide the right doctors and the right treatment, and that He will knit your family together in unity and love as you honor her together. May the Lord comfort you, guide every decision, and let your mother feel His sustaining hand.
