We lift this heavy burden before the throne of grace, grieving with you over the fracture in your son’s marriage. The pain of watching loved ones drift apart is deep, but we stand on the promise that "with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26). Marriage is a sacred covenant, not merely a contract, and the enemy seeks to destroy what God has joined together (Mark 10:9). Yet we declare that no wound is beyond the healing touch of the Great Physician.

First, we must address the foundational truth that forgiveness is not optional for believers. The Lord commands us to "forgive, just as Christ forgave you" (Colossians 3:13). Unresolved hurts fester like open wounds, but forgiveness, though difficult, breaks the chains of bitterness. We rebuke the spirit of division that whispers separation as the only solution. The Word declares, "A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city" (Proverbs 18:19), but love covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8).

We pray for your son and his wife, asking the Holy Spirit to soften their hearts toward one another. Father, reveal to them the lies they’ve believed about each other and replace those lies with Your truth. Where there has been neglect, stir in them a renewed commitment to cherish one another as Christ cherishes the Church (Ephesians 5:25). Where there has been pride, humble them to seek reconciliation. Where there has been silence, give them courage to speak with honesty and grace.

Lord, we ask You to intervene supernaturally. You are the God who "heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds" (Psalm 147:3). Pour out Your mercy upon this marriage, for You delight in showing steadfast love (Micah 7:18). Let them see that their union is worth fighting for, not with human strength alone, but with the power of prayer, the wisdom of Scripture, and the guidance of godly counsel. Surround them with believers who will speak life into their marriage and hold them accountable to Your standards.

We also pray for you, as their parent, that you would have wisdom in how to support them without enabling sin or taking sides. Your role is to point them to Christ, not to carry their burden alone. Trust the Lord to work even when the path forward seems impossible. "Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass" (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

Finally, we declare that this marriage will not be another statistic of brokenness. Instead, it will be a testimony of Your redeeming power. May they emerge from this trial stronger, more united, and more dependent on You. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, for there is no other name by which we can approach the Father (John 14:6). Amen.

It is deeply painful to watch a marriage unravel, and the sense of helplessness in those moments can feel overwhelming. We can hear the ache in your words and the love you have for both your son and his wife. The "big gap" you describe and the hurts they are carrying are not easy burdens. Yet, it is precisely in these broken places that God often does His most profound work, bringing strength we do not possess on our own. Your prayers do matter.

As you continue to lift them up, one of the most powerful things you can do is hold steady in your own role as a loving, prayerful presence. When hurts run deep, the journey from forgiveness to possible reconciliation is often slow and delicate. Forgiveness isn’t a single moment, it is a mental and emotional process of letting go of resentment and extending grace, even when the feelings haven’t yet caught up. Reconciliation, the actual rebuilding of the damaged relationship, requires both people to actively commit to restoring trust. It would be wise for your son and his wife to seek out a pastor or a professional Christian marriage counselor who can help them navigate these deep injuries. A skilled third party can create a safe space for them to express their pain and learn new patterns of communication that they simply cannot find on their own right now.

We also want to reassure you that while you cannot control their choices, you are not powerless. Your steadfast love and refusal to give up hope is a tangible picture of God’s own faithfulness. Keep speaking life and hope over this situation, and trust that the Lord loves this couple and their marriage even more than you do.

Jesus, you see this family and the raw wounds that are threatening to tear them apart. We ask you to soften the hearts of this son and his wife, to grant them the courage to face their hurts and the miracle of forgiveness. Please lead them to wise counsel and give this praying parent supernatural peace as they wait on you. Work in this situation for their good and your glory. Amen.

That very season of breaking may be the singular hour when God’s mighty mercy is ordained to meet with them. Oh, that this might be the night when the Lord calls out their names and makes them know He sees their case! The tender mercy of our God stoops to think upon sinful man at all; how much more to heal two hearts wounded by mutual hurt. There is forgiveness with Him, forgiveness that blots out transgression for His own sake, an eternal forgiveness sealed by the blood of His dear Son.

To them I would say, as the angel did to Hagar, “Where have you come from, and where will you go?” Let them not go from one another into the desert of separation, lest they go from the presence of mercy itself. Yet there is a false hope that must be cast down: a hope that presumes upon mercy while clinging to sin and unforgiveness. The first thing God’s mercy does is turn the face in the opposite direction, it creates new loves and new hates. A sound hope feels its need of mercy deeply, and from that need springs the power to forgive. For what have we been forgiven? If Christ has so freely released us from ten thousand talents, shall we take our brother by the throat for a few pence?

The God of their mercy goes before them; while they are yet crying, He can send the answer. He can soften that which is hard, and grant the repentance they long to feel. Hope thou in His mercy, for it is a sure hope, those who hope in it are the very ones who fear Him. Let thy prayer beget in them a holy fear, that together they may prove that where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. There is forgiveness; let that whisper shatter every despair.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The bond of marriage is ordained of God, not an impure state, and it is not marriage itself that hinders anyone from the kingdom, but the evil purpose that makes ill use of it. Use marriage with moderation, with chastity and honor, and you shall be first in the kingdom. Your son and his wife are not hindered by their union, but by the hurts they cling to. Let them forgive as they have been forgiven, for this is the miracle you beg for: that they put away bitterness and begin anew with Christ as their guide.

Do not think a second beginning is impossible. Where there is no ungodliness forced upon them, no demand to sacrifice their faith, they are not under bondage to separate. Marriage is a bond, a bond ordained of God, while division is a dissolving. What then does the Lord have for them? A call to peace and holiness. Let them not look to the world’s pageants for comfort, but deck their house with virtue. Invite Christ into their home, do this by inviting the poor for His sake, by clothing themselves in gentleness and modesty. If they will live not unto themselves but unto Him who died for them, they will bring forth fruit unto God.

You ask what God has for them: He has mercy and a new life together if they will only embrace it. Marriage is not a hindrance but a means of holiness when they preserve the purity given by faith. Let them abstain from every defilement of bitterness, and they shall enjoy all good things. Pray for them, yes, but also counsel them that the true liberty of Christianity shines even in the constraints of marriage when they bear with one another in love. You have set your hope on a miracle, then believe that the same Lord who joined them can soften their hearts, if they will but use marriage with moderation and turn their purpose toward Him.
