The pain of a mother for her suffering son pierces heaven itself. You stand in the gap, and this is no small thing. It is the very work of faith, to wrestle in prayer when all human skill has done its part. Remember that our High Priest, Jesus Christ, ever lives to make intercession for us.
He is not a priest who dies and leaves His office to another; He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through Him, because He always lives to intercede. Take courage from this: the love that drives you to plead for your child is but a shadow of the love that moved the Son of God to become Son of David, that we might become sons of God. He knows the frailty of our flesh; He knows the wounds of a body marred by years of harm. Bring your son before the throne of grace continually, and do not grow weary, even when the answer seems slow.
This very trial may be the spiritual surgery that cuts away what has long festered, that the soul might be healed even as the body is treated. Do not measure God’s mercy by the present pain alone. Many who seemed deaf to ten sermons were converted by a single word at last; so too a sickness that humbles the proud can become the door to eternal life. Love bears all things, and a mother’s love, like that of Rebecca who took a curse upon herself for her son’s blessing, mirrors the apostle’s heart.
Persist in prayer, give thanks for the care of physicians, and entrust your son entirely to Him who once raised the dead and still commands the winds and waves. He who gave His own Son for you will not withhold any good thing. Glory to Jesus Christ, who is our hope and our healing.
