We join with you in lifting up your precious mother before the Lord and we thank you for honoring her in her old age with such love and faithfulness. Our hearts are moved by all she is carrying, the early Alzheimer, diabetes, depression, chronic stomach issues and that hardened swelling or growth, heart and blood pressure struggles, weakness and pain in her head and neck, and the deep grief of losing her husband your father just last year. To lose a lifelong companion leaves a wound that lingers, and we know the Lord sees her sensitivity and sorrow.
We praise God that you have called upon the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that we find healing and hope. As it is written John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved.
Scripture calls us to honor our parents in their later years and your desire to do so pleases God. Exodus 20:12 Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. And 1 Timothy 5:4 But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to show piety towards their own family, and to repay their parents, for this is acceptable in the sight of God. Even to old age God promises His faithful care, Isaiah 46:4 Even to old age I am he, and even to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear. Yes, I will carry, and will deliver.
We also hear your burden for wisdom regarding her care. You are already providing daily help in her apartment and you share her fear of a senior home. We understand that fear and we commend your diligence to keep her where she feels safe and loved while also recognizing the weight this places on you. God promises wisdom when we ask. James 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. And Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.
We bring her physical and emotional healing to the Great Physician who heals all our diseases. Psalm 103:2-3 Praise Yahweh, my soul, and do not forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases. Jeremiah 30:17 But I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh. For her grieving and depressed heart we cling to Psalm 147:3 He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. And Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. For her fear and weakness we remember Isaiah 41:10 Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear mother to Your throne of grace. You know her by name, You have numbered her days and You have carried her through many years. We ask You to lay Your healing hand upon her. Touch her mind and slow and if it be Your will reverse the Alzheimer, bring clarity and peace to her thoughts. Touch her blood sugar and her diabetes, her heart and blood pressure, her stomach and intestines, and that hardened swelling or growth in her abdomen, Lord we ask that You would reveal what it is and heal it completely. Ease the pain in her head and neck and take away the general weakness, and restore strength to her body. We pray for her depression and grief after losing her beloved husband, comfort her as only You can, fill the loneliness with Your presence, and let her feel Your everlasting arms underneath her. Give her joy and peace in her apartment where she is still so active and diligent, and help her to sleep well and to feel safe.
Lord we also lift up her child and family who love her and seek the best solution for her care. Grant them wisdom, discernment and unity as they consider how to provide for her in the days ahead. Show them whether to continue with daily help at home or what other godly and compassionate options may be needed, and remove fear about the future. Provide for the woman who cares for her daily, bless her with strength and kindness, and provide financially for all that is needed. Help this family to cast all anxiety on You. Philippians 4:6-7 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
We ask that You continue to guide her medical care, give wisdom to her doctors, and help the family to ensure that growth in her stomach is properly examined and treated. We pray that she would know how deeply she is loved by You and by her family, and that she would find daily comfort in Your Word and in prayer. Carry her and keep her in Your perfect will. In the mighty and merciful name of Jesus we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue to honor her with tender patience, to keep seeking good medical counsel for her stomach and heart concerns without delay, and to keep surrounding her with Scripture, prayer, gentle conversation and familiar comforts that calm confusion and sadness. Even short visits outside with help, or sunshine by a window, or hymns and reading aloud can lift the spirit. Do not carry this burden alone but share it with trusted believers and family, for Galatians 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. The Lord sees your faithfulness and He will sustain you as you sustain her.
