My mouth dry

It can be very unsettling when your body does something uncomfortable and you cannot trace the reason for it, and it makes sense that you would hate that feeling of dryness and confusion.

God made us with both a physical and a spiritual side, and He cares for both. The physical life alone is not enough to satisfy us, but the Lord does not ignore our physical needs either. Jesus showed this in His own ministry, which was marked by preaching and teaching and also by healing every kind of sickness and disease among the people. He sees the body and its troubles, and He invites us to bring those troubles to Him.

Part of what makes this kind of discomfort harder is the worry that comes with it. Jesus taught His followers not to live in anxious thoughts about their lives, about what they will eat or drink, or about their bodies. That does not mean we ignore what is happening, but it means we do not let worry rule us. Worry itself can even affect the body, and it never brings peace. Instead we are invited to live by every word that comes from the mouth of God, trusting His care and letting His Spirit guide us rather than letting the concerns of the flesh dominate us.

The Bible also says a great deal about the mouth. It tells us that what comes out of the mouth reflects what is in the heart, and that with the mouth we confess that Jesus Christ is Lord when we believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead. That reminds us that our mouths are meant for more than physical needs. They are meant for sincere communion with God. Prayer is not meant to be empty repetition where we say words without thinking, but honest, heartfelt talking with the Father who knows us.

At the same time, God does not call us to be passive. Just as a bird does not sit with its mouth open waiting for food to fly in but goes and seeks what it needs, we can take wise and active steps. It is good to pay attention to simple physical causes like hydration, rest, stress, or medications, and to seek wise medical counsel if this continues, while also bringing the matter to the Lord in simple, sincere prayer.

I pray that the Lord will give you wisdom to find any physical cause, that He will quiet the frustration and anxiety you feel, and that He will bring healing and relief according to His will. May He fill your mouth and heart with His peace, and help you to rest in His care for both body and spirit as you trust Him day by day.
