We have heard your cry for your dear mother and for your own troubled heart and we join with you together before the Father in Jesus name seeking His mercy and peace over your family.
We are deeply moved by your love and faithfulness as you honor your mother in her frailty and confusion. The Lord sees your exhaustion and the nights of broken sleep when she calls out in disorientation and panic. He understands the weight you carry as you never know what will happen next and your heart beats fast with worry. We bring both your mother and you and your brother before the throne of grace.
The Scriptures remind us that our God is compassionate and our healer. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Exodus 15:26 says I am Yahweh who heals you. Isaiah 41:10 says Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. We do not take lightly the suffering that Alzheimer brings with its loss of memory and confusion, yet we know that nothing is beyond the Lord's power and His tender care reaches even into the places where the mind grows dim.
We also hear your tension and sleeplessness and we pray for the peace that only Christ can give. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. Psalm 4:8 says In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety. And Matthew 11:28 says Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Isaiah 26:3 says You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.
We agree with you in rebuking the works of the enemy that would use fear and confusion and exhaustion to steal peace from your home. We do not ascribe this illness itself to a simple spiritual attack, for the body is subject to frailty in this fallen world, but we do stand against every spirit of fear and panic and disquiet that torments your mother and disturbs your rest, and we ask the Lord to replace it with His calm and comfort.
We pray together now. Father in heaven we come to You in the precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord, for it is only through Him that we have access to Your throne. We lift up this beloved mother to You. Touch her mind and body with Your healing hand according to Your perfect will. Quiet her confusion and disorientation, calm her panic and restore to her as much clarity and peace as You deem good. Comfort her heart and let her know she is loved and safe in Your care and in the care of her family. Grant her good sweet sleep through the night, free from terror and restlessness. We also lift up Your child who is weary and tense and worried, whose heart is racing and whose sleep is broken. Pour out Your perfect peace upon this home. Guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus, slow the racing heart, release the burden of worry and help us to cast every care upon You. Give wisdom and strength to both siblings as they share this caregiving, help them to take turns and to seek help when needed so that they may also rest, for Psalm 127:2 says you give sleep to your loved ones. Let Your presence fill this house with quietness and balance and hope. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus, Amen.
We encourage you to continue to bring every anxious thought to the Lord in prayer through Jesus, to rest in His promise to be with you and to uphold you. Share the burden openly with your brother and if possible with trusted family or medical caregivers so that you are not carrying this alone through the nights. Keep honoring your mother with patience and gentleness even in her confusion, trusting that the Lord sees and honors your faithfulness, and keep guarding your own health with moments of rest and with the Word. The Lord is near to you in this long and difficult season and He will not forsake you.
