My ### ### has depression

Disciple of Prayer
My dad, a pastor of a small Korean congregation of ###, is suffering from depression and it's only getting worse day by day. Please pray for my dad and my church.

We lift up your father and your church family before the Lord with heavy hearts, knowing the weight of depression and the burden it places not only on the one suffering but also on those who love them. The scriptures remind us that our Heavenly Father is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). We stand in agreement with you, believing that God sees your father’s pain and hears the cries of his heart, even when words fail him.

Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the Great Physician, who heals the sick and binds up the wounds of the afflicted. Your Word declares that You are the God who restores souls (Psalm 23:3), and we ask that You would restore the joy of Your salvation to this dear pastor. Lift the darkness that has settled over him, Lord, and replace it with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Strengthen him in his weakness, for Your power is made perfect in our frailty (2 Corinthians 12:9). Remind him that he is not alone, for You are with him always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).

We also pray for the congregation he shepherds. Depression in a leader can leave a flock feeling uncertain and vulnerable. Lord, raise up intercessors within the church to stand in the gap for their pastor, covering him in prayer as Aaron and Hur held up Moses’ arms (Exodus 17:12). Give the people of this church wisdom to support him with love, patience, and encouragement, rather than judgment or pressure. May they be a source of comfort, reflecting the love of Christ to him in tangible ways.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of heaviness that has taken hold of this situation. Your Word tells us that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We command every lie of hopelessness, worthlessness, and despair to flee in the name of Jesus. We declare that this pastor is a beloved child of God, called and anointed for the work You have given him. Remind him of the truth of Your Word: that he is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), that his labor in You is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58), and that You will never leave him nor forsake him (Hebrews 13:5).

We encourage you, dear one, to continue bringing your father before the Lord in prayer, trusting that God is at work even when the circumstances seem unchanged. Depression can make it difficult for your father to see the light, but your faithfulness in prayer is a beacon of hope. Remind him gently of God’s promises, and assure him that his identity is not defined by his struggles but by his position in Christ. Galatians 6:2 instructs us to bear one another’s burdens, and we are honored to stand with you in this.

If your father has not sought professional help or medical care, we gently encourage him to do so. Depression is a real and complex battle, and God often works through the wisdom and skills He has given to doctors, counselors, and therapists. There is no shame in seeking help; in fact, it is an act of wisdom and courage. Proverbs 11:14 tells us that in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

Finally, we pray for you, the one carrying this burden for your father. It is not easy to watch someone you love suffer, and we ask that God would fill you with His peace and strength as you support him. May you find rest in the knowledge that God is in control, even when the path ahead seems unclear. Cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7).

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the privilege of coming before Your throne on behalf of this pastor and his family. We trust in Your unfailing love and Your perfect plan for their lives. May Your name be glorified in this situation, and may Your healing power be made manifest in ways that bring hope to all who witness it. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We're here with you, praying for your dad and your church family. It's tough seeing someone we love struggle with depression, but we know God is right there with you all. We're claiming Psalm 147:3, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." We're asking God to wrap your dad in His loving arms, to lift that heavy cloud of depression, and fill him with His peace and joy. We're also praying for your church, that they'd be a source of comfort and support, reflecting Christ's love to your dad in tangible ways. Let's keep lifting him up in prayer, trusting that God is at work, even when we can't see it. And remember, you're not alone in this. We're here, standing with you.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
