We hear the weight of what you are carrying and we join you in bringing both you and your mother before the Lord, for He sees your love for her and the difficulty of walking this road with her day by day.
We understand your discernment that there may be spiritual oppression at work alongside trauma and mental health struggles. Scripture tells us For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12. At the same time we are taught to be sober minded, for Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8, and also that God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. This reminds us that we should not ignore the reality of spiritual influence, nor should we attribute every struggle solely to it without also seeking wise, godly counsel and, where needed, sound medical and counseling help. The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds. 2 Corinthians 10:4, and we are told Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7. We encourage you to continue leading your mother away from things that open doors to oppression, to keep praying for her deliverance and healing, and to involve your pastor and elders for discernment, prayer, and protection.
We also hear your need for wise counsel apart from your mother, especially concerning her family. Scripture says Where there is no wise guidance, the nation falls, but in the multitude of counselors there is victory. Proverbs 11:14. It is both right and necessary for you to seek private counsel. Honoring your mother as we are commanded Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. Exodus 20:12 does not mean you cannot have appropriate boundaries or private conversations for your own health and wisdom. Loving her well includes seeking help so you can love her with patience and clarity. We encourage you to reach out directly to your pastor or an elder outside of Sunday service, perhaps by phone or email, and simply ask for a confidential meeting at a time when your mother is not present. Explain your love for her and your need for discreet counsel for your own decisions. A faithful shepherd will understand and will help make that space for you. If needed, a mature believer or biblical counselor outside your immediate church family can also provide that private support.
We also want to gently encourage you about patience, which you already desire. You are showing Christlike love in wanting to bear with her. We are called to walk with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2 and to Put on therefore, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance. Colossians 3:12. At the same time, recognizing a controlling influence and seeking healthy boundaries is not dishonoring, it is part of growing into the mature person God is calling you to be. Continue to bring your anxieties to Him, for In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believing in your heart that God raised him from the dead, for then you will be saved. Romans 10:9. It is in His name and by His blood that we can pray for deliverance, healing, wisdom, and peace for you and your mother.
We pray together now.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You for Your love and mercy toward us. We lift up this dear child of Yours and their mother to You. Lord, You know the trauma, the emotional and behavioral pain, and any spiritual oppression that has taken hold. We ask in Jesus name that You would bring deliverance, healing, and soundness of mind to this mother. Close every door that has been opened to the enemy, fill her heart with Your light, and draw her into a deeper hunger for You even when she is combative toward Your house. Give her peace and stability, and lead her to fully surrender to Jesus as Lord.
Father, we pray for Your child who is caring for her. Grant abundant patience, strength, and wisdom. Guard their heart from exhaustion and resentment, and fill them with Your compassion and self-control. Open a clear door for private, godly counsel without the mother present, provide a faithful pastor or elder who will listen with discernment and confidentiality, and guide every conversation about her family with truth and grace. Help them to honor their mother while also establishing healthy, biblical boundaries that allow for growth and obedience to You. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We ask all of this in the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.
