Mother

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray about this: we have maintenance people coming over to fix our air conditioner and I was showing them where the unit was. I left them and came downstairs and when I entered the room, my dad was throwing things around the room. I'm almost certain my mother (who is severely demonized - I am not just saying this; other people have noticed that there is something spiritually wrong with her - and is often used by Satan to harm people and cause havoc even in her own life) said something to him to upset him although she says she didn't. Her and my father are both professing Christians but extremely confused spiritually and it is probable that they aren't actually Christian. Because of all this, there is a lot of chaos and problems in their marriage, in their parenting and in their running our family and household. I try to be patient with my mother and I am praying for her but her behavior is very DIFFICULT. Her behavior presents as very narcissistic and toxic and anyone looking from the outside would think she is just a narcissist or has a severe personality disorder but, again, it is clear there is a spiritual element involved and that it is not totally a matter of her psychological state. Please pray about all this. Thank you.

Thank you for telling us what happened. Coming downstairs to find your dad throwing things while workers were in the house must have been frightening and disorienting, and we hear how heavy it has felt to live with ongoing chaos between your parents while also trying to be patient and prayerful for your mom.

It makes sense that you are trying to make sense of painful behavior that feels both personal and spiritual. Living in that kind of tension day after day is exhausting, especially when you care about both of your parents and also need to feel safe at home.

We want to encourage you not to carry this alone. One steady next step could be to identify a safe, trusted person outside your home, a pastor, counselor, or mature family friend, who knows your situation and who you could call quickly if things escalate again, and to talk with them about a simple safety plan for yourself when there is shouting or throwing things. If you ever feel unsafe, it is wise to step away and get help rather than trying to intervene or sort it out in the moment.

We are praying for you and for your family.

Father, we lift this home to You and ask for Your protection and peace over each person there. Give wisdom, safety and clear next steps, and surround this dear one with trustworthy support. Guide their parents toward help and toward You, and bring calm and healing where there has been so much strain. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

We hear the weight of what you are carrying in your home and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is at His name that every spiritual power must bow.

What you describe is a household in great turmoil and confusion, and we do not take lightly the chaos you witnessed with your father throwing things and the difficult and toxic behavior you experience from your mother. Scripture tells us that God is not a God of confusion, but of peace, as in 1 Corinthians 14:33, and that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places as in Ephesians 6:12. We believe you when you say there is a spiritual element at work, and we also know that the enemy often works through the flesh, through unhealed wounds, unrepentant sin, and lack of self-control. Both can be true at once.

We want to gently encourage discernment here. While we absolutely believe in demonic oppression and that Satan seeks to steal, kill and destroy as in John 10:10, we must also remember that each person is responsible for their own choices. Your father's response of throwing things around the room is not honoring to God, even when provoked. The Word says Be angry, and don't sin. Don't let the sun go down on your wrath as in Ephesians 4:26 and that He who is slow to anger has great understanding as in Proverbs 14:29. And your mother's behavior, whether rooted in spiritual oppression or patterns of the flesh, is still harmful and needs to be brought into the light. We pray not to label her with contempt but to see her as one who needs deliverance and true transformation in Christ. For greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world as in 1 John 4:4, and we are told to Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you as in James 4:7.

You mentioned that both your parents profess to be Christians but live in great spiritual confusion and may not truly know Christ. We take that concern very seriously, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me as in John 14:6, and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved as in Acts 4:12. A profession alone does not save, if the heart has not truly believed and turned to Jesus with repentance. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation as in 2 Corinthians 5:17. We will pray that God would grant them genuine repentance and faith, that they would examine themselves to see whether they are in the faith as in 2 Corinthians 13:5, and that the weapons of our warfare, which are not of the flesh but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds as in 2 Corinthians 10:4, would break through deception in their lives.

We also hear your desire to be patient, and we commend you for that. We are called to Honor your father and your mother as in Exodus 20:12 and to put on a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance as in Colossians 3:12. Honoring does not mean enabling sin or accepting abuse, and it does not mean you must remain in a room where things are being thrown if you feel unsafe. If there is ever a threat of physical harm, we urge you to seek safety and to involve a trusted pastor, elder, or godly counselor immediately. God desires that marriage reflect Christ and the church, a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman built on love, faithfulness and self-control, and we pray for your parents' marriage to be healed and ordered according to His design. We encourage you to continue in prayer without growing weary, for in due season we will reap, if we don't faint as in Galatians 6:9, and to seek wise, mature Christian counsel for your household, not to gossip but to bring light and accountability.

We now pray together with you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and deliverer. We lift this dear one and this household to You. Lord, You see the chaos, the anger, the confusion, and the pain behind closed doors. We ask that You bring Your peace which surpasses all understanding to guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus as in Philippians 4:7. We pray for the father, that You would convict him of any outburst of wrath, grant him self-control which is fruit of Your Spirit as in Galatians 5:22-23, and teach him to lead his household with gentleness and godliness. We pray for the mother, that if there is any demonic influence or oppression, it would be broken by the authority of Jesus. We rebuke every work of Satan assigned against her and this family, and we ask You to deliver her, heal her mind and heart, and fill her with Your Holy Spirit. Draw both parents into a true saving knowledge of Jesus, that they would confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in their heart that You raised Him from the dead as in Romans 10:9, and walk in newness of life. We pray for this child who stands in the middle, grant wisdom beyond years, protection, patience, and boundaries that honor You. Help them to love without compromising truth, to forgive as You have forgiven us as in Matthew 6:14, and to pursue peace as far as it depends on them as in Romans 12:18. Let this home be ordered by You, not by chaos, and let even the practical needs like the air conditioner be a testimony of Your provision and care. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our hope and our deliverer, amen.

Thank you for trusting us with what happened in your home. Walking in to find your dad throwing things after you had just left the maintenance workers must have been jarring, and we hear how heavy it feels to carry concern for both your parents, their marriage, and the atmosphere in the household.

Trying to stay patient in ongoing chaos is exhausting. It makes sense that you are looking for wisdom about what is spiritual, what is relational, and what is simply the strain of living together under stress. Those things can overlap and it is hard to sort them out alone.

One steady next step we encourage is to bring a trusted pastor or Christian counselor into what you are seeing day to day, someone who knows you and can walk with you over time. He can help you think through healthy boundaries for when tension rises, like having a plan to step to a safe place, not staying alone in a room where things are being thrown, and getting another calm adult involved when you can. If you ever feel unsafe, please reach out right away to a trusted family member, pastor, or local help.

We are praying for you in this.

Father, we lift this family to You. We ask for Your protection and peace in their home, for wisdom and restraint for both mom and dad, and for strength and discernment for this child who loves them and wants to honor You. Guard their hearts, calm what is chaotic, and guide them to wise, personal help nearby. Lead them toward healing and stability in the days ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden has been laid before the Lord and we have carried you and your household to the throne of grace in prayer. To live amid confusion and sudden strife in the home is a sore trial, and the distress you describe when you found your father in such agitation is one that calls for much wisdom, patience and prayer.

We would urge you, even in this difficulty, to hold fast that honour which God requires toward father and mother, not by approving what is wrong, but by shewing a loving adherence to what is right. As it has been said, bind instruction upon your heart continually, and let the word of God dwell in you. Where there is chaos in a household, there must be reform in the household and a revival of religion throughout the whole family, and this begins with a heart turned to Christ. We cannot know the heart of another, and we must leave the judgment of whether any man is truly in Christ to the Lord who searcheth the heart, yet we know this, that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and that He alone can quicken the soul and make a sinner a son of God. This is the never failing mark of those who are His.

There is indeed a spiritual conflict in this world, and Satan is a real adversary, but our hope is not in naming every trouble, but in Christ who has overcome. Family prayer is the nutriment of family piety, and where it has ceased or grown cold, woe comes upon the house. If family prayer together is not possible in your present circumstances, we exhort you that private prayer be more diligently and more spiritually maintained. Pray in secret for your mother and your father, that the Lord would grant them true repentance and faith, that He would subdue what is unruly and heal what is broken, and that their marriage, which God ordained as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, might be ordered by His grace and peace rather than by strife. Pray also for yourself, that you may be kept in patience and in sound judgment, and that you may be preserved from bitterness.

Seek also the help of godly and sober counsel near you. Make your situation known to a faithful pastor or elders who can know you, see your home, and give you wise and watchful care. If there is throwing of things or any danger in the home, do not remain without seeking that immediate help and protection which the Lord provides through His church and through lawful means. It is not weak to be touched with affection for your parents and yet to seek help when havoc enters the household. Train up a child in the way he should go is a word for parents, but it is also a mercy for children who still cleave to the Lord while under their roof.

We have prayed and do pray for you after this manner. O Lord our God, who hast made the family and hast set the solitary in families, look in mercy upon this household. Grant unto the parents true conversion if they have it not, and revival if they have wandered. Cast down the power of sin and Satan where it exalts itself, and let Jesus Christ be owned as Lord in that home. Give to this dear child of Thine a quiet spirit, a guarded tongue, and a heart that rests in Christ. Let Thy word be a lamp to their feet, and let Thy peace, which passeth all understanding, keep their heart and mind. Preserve this family, as Thou didst preserve Noah and his house in the ark, and bring them all into the ark of salvation, for Thy name's sake. Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord, to walk in His testimonies, and to trust that all things are yours if you are Christ's, and Christ is God's.
