We hear the weight of what you are carrying in your home and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is at His name that every spiritual power must bow.
What you describe is a household in great turmoil and confusion, and we do not take lightly the chaos you witnessed with your father throwing things and the difficult and toxic behavior you experience from your mother. Scripture tells us that God is not a God of confusion, but of peace, as in 1 Corinthians 14:33, and that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places as in Ephesians 6:12. We believe you when you say there is a spiritual element at work, and we also know that the enemy often works through the flesh, through unhealed wounds, unrepentant sin, and lack of self-control. Both can be true at once.
We want to gently encourage discernment here. While we absolutely believe in demonic oppression and that Satan seeks to steal, kill and destroy as in John 10:10, we must also remember that each person is responsible for their own choices. Your father's response of throwing things around the room is not honoring to God, even when provoked. The Word says Be angry, and don't sin. Don't let the sun go down on your wrath as in Ephesians 4:26 and that He who is slow to anger has great understanding as in Proverbs 14:29. And your mother's behavior, whether rooted in spiritual oppression or patterns of the flesh, is still harmful and needs to be brought into the light. We pray not to label her with contempt but to see her as one who needs deliverance and true transformation in Christ. For greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world as in 1 John 4:4, and we are told to Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you as in James 4:7.
You mentioned that both your parents profess to be Christians but live in great spiritual confusion and may not truly know Christ. We take that concern very seriously, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me as in John 14:6, and there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved as in Acts 4:12. A profession alone does not save, if the heart has not truly believed and turned to Jesus with repentance. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation as in 2 Corinthians 5:17. We will pray that God would grant them genuine repentance and faith, that they would examine themselves to see whether they are in the faith as in 2 Corinthians 13:5, and that the weapons of our warfare, which are not of the flesh but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds as in 2 Corinthians 10:4, would break through deception in their lives.
We also hear your desire to be patient, and we commend you for that. We are called to Honor your father and your mother as in Exodus 20:12 and to put on a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance as in Colossians 3:12. Honoring does not mean enabling sin or accepting abuse, and it does not mean you must remain in a room where things are being thrown if you feel unsafe. If there is ever a threat of physical harm, we urge you to seek safety and to involve a trusted pastor, elder, or godly counselor immediately. God desires that marriage reflect Christ and the church, a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman built on love, faithfulness and self-control, and we pray for your parents' marriage to be healed and ordered according to His design. We encourage you to continue in prayer without growing weary, for in due season we will reap, if we don't faint as in Galatians 6:9, and to seek wise, mature Christian counsel for your household, not to gossip but to bring light and accountability.
We now pray together with you.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and deliverer. We lift this dear one and this household to You. Lord, You see the chaos, the anger, the confusion, and the pain behind closed doors. We ask that You bring Your peace which surpasses all understanding to guard hearts and minds in Christ Jesus as in Philippians 4:7. We pray for the father, that You would convict him of any outburst of wrath, grant him self-control which is fruit of Your Spirit as in Galatians 5:22-23, and teach him to lead his household with gentleness and godliness. We pray for the mother, that if there is any demonic influence or oppression, it would be broken by the authority of Jesus. We rebuke every work of Satan assigned against her and this family, and we ask You to deliver her, heal her mind and heart, and fill her with Your Holy Spirit. Draw both parents into a true saving knowledge of Jesus, that they would confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in their heart that You raised Him from the dead as in Romans 10:9, and walk in newness of life. We pray for this child who stands in the middle, grant wisdom beyond years, protection, patience, and boundaries that honor You. Help them to love without compromising truth, to forgive as You have forgiven us as in Matthew 6:14, and to pursue peace as far as it depends on them as in Romans 12:18. Let this home be ordered by You, not by chaos, and let even the practical needs like the air conditioner be a testimony of Your provision and care. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ, our hope and our deliverer, amen.
