Hi, I have a meeting schedule on ### and ### and i don't want to attend the meeting. Please pray to God to cancel the meeting or postpone it to next week. Please pray for me …. I am in stress and cannot handle the meeting

We hear your request and understand the stress you're feeling about this upcoming meeting. While we can certainly pray for peace and wisdom in this situation, we want to gently remind you that our prayers should always align with God’s will, not just our own desires. The Bible tells us in James 4:15, "Instead, you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.'"

It’s important to consider whether avoiding this meeting is truly what God wants for you. Could there be a purpose in attending, perhaps an opportunity to grow, learn, or even be a light to others? Philippians 4:6-7 says, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."

If fear or anxiety is driving your desire to cancel, we encourage you to surrender that to the Lord. He promises to give us strength when we feel weak. Isaiah 41:10 says, "Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness."

Let us pray for you now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is feeling overwhelmed by this upcoming meeting. Lord, we ask that You would grant them Your peace that surpasses all understanding. If it is Your will for this meeting to be canceled or postponed, we pray that You would make that clear. But if it is Your will for them to attend, we ask that You would strengthen them, calm their fears, and fill them with Your presence. Help them to trust in You and to see this as an opportunity to rely on Your grace. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen."

We also want to gently encourage you to examine your heart in this matter. Are you seeking God’s will above your own comfort? Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." If there is unconfessed sin, fear, or pride at the root of this request, we urge you to bring it before the Lord in repentance.

Lastly, if you have not yet placed your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we want to share with you the truth that eternal life and peace with God come only through Him. John 14:6 says, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'" Acts 4:12 also tells us, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" If you feel led, we invite you to surrender your life to Christ today and experience the peace that only He can give.

We hear the tension in your words, and we’re with you in this. That heavy, can’t-handle-it feeling before a meeting is deeply draining. You’re not weak for asking God to move the date or remove the meeting entirely, sometimes the most honest prayer is simply “Lord, I can’t.” We’ll join you in asking Him to work this out in whatever way brings you real relief.

While we pray for the scheduling, we also want to stand with you in the middle of the anxiety itself. Often the dread grows bigger in solitude. Is there someone you trust, a friend, family member, or pastor, you could talk to, even briefly? Speaking it aloud can loosen its grip. And if the stress ever builds into panic or chest pain, please don’t hesitate to reach a doctor; sometimes our bodies send flares we shouldn’t ignore.

In the meantime, before God’s answer becomes visible, we ask Him to quiet your heart. You’re not alone in this; He already sees what’s ahead.

Let’s pray together now.

Father, this one feels cornered by a meeting that seems too much to face. You know all the details. We ask boldly that if it’s right in Your plan, cancel or postpone it in a way that brings peace, not more pressure. But even while we wait, steady these nerves. Give them the courage to take one small, realistic step toward help. Wrap them in Your presence right now, and let them sense You carrying the weight they can’t manage. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You tell me you are in stress and cannot handle this meeting, and you beg for its cancellation. But have you not found out yet that the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty? Anxiety has never comforted anybody, nor brought any grist to the mill. If you ask me to pray that the meeting be taken away, consider: render calamity impossible, and what mark would there be of divine displeasure for our revolt?

Wherein would this trial differ from ease and indulgence? But you say all things seem to be going amiss. I am constantly hearing that. Yet the Divine Instructor is training you as an eagle trains her young, stirring up the nest, forcing you to fly, not to ruin but to find that underneath are the everlasting arms.

The Divine Presence dissolves difficulties; it is the one hope of the people of God. If He sends you into that meeting, He will go before you, and His gentleness will make you great. Let your prayer not be so much for escape as for grace to trust. Conscious of His authority, you may look this appointment in the face and say, Thus saith the Lord, I am Thine.

And when He upholds you, you will be ashamed of your present incensed desire to flee, and you will feel the glory in your soul. I shall pray, not that the meeting be removed, but that the Divine gentleness itself shall restrain the blow, and that you may prove His interposition to be no miraculous sign, but a wonder of mercy all the same.

Why do you seek to flee from this meeting as though it were some great evil? The very stress that now overwhelms you is a thorn, and such thorns choke the word of God sown in your heart. Consider how both luxury and anxiety together can sink the bark of the soul: either one alone would be enough to overwhelm, but when both conspire, the waves rise high indeed. You run after ease, but that pursuit only breeds more thorns. For if you gain this postponement, will not new cares spring up? The trouble lies not in the meeting itself, but in your soul’s attachment to a false peace.

Earthly beauty and comfort wither quickly, disfigured by anxiety and time. The soul’s true beauty, however, is never touched by age or worry. Why then do you let a temporal matter rob you of that eternal bloom? Even if the meeting remains, no one can harm you unless you choose to harm yourself. The apostles did not pray to escape every danger, but stood firm in tribulation, proving their faith. Their perseverance showed the power of the gospel, not a flight from difficulty.

Do not pray for the meeting to be canceled. Root out the thorn instead, and pray for strength to endure. God sees what is to come and will not let you face anything beyond your capacity. If you ask with faith, He will calm your heart, and you will attend that meeting in peace. True freedom is not found in avoiding every burden, but in carrying them with a soul anchored in Christ. Let this be your prayer: that your anxiety be lifted, and that you may stand firm. Then, whether the meeting is held or delayed, you will lose nothing, but gain much.

Anxiety often grows when the thing before us feels larger than the God beside us. When a meeting or a responsibility starts to fill our mind with dread, the temptation is to pray only for the circumstance to change. And while the Lord can certainly alter schedules and redirect plans, He often first invites us to bring the whole weight of our stress into His presence and leave it there.

The psalms show David doing exactly this. He would find his soul cast down and disquieted within him, and he would ask himself, “Why are you cast down? Hope in God.” In other words, he realized he had removed God from the equation. He had looked at the situation through the lens of his own resources and his own weakness, and the result was a storm of fear. When he put God back into his thinking, the impossible suddenly held a solution. The pressure didn’t always vanish, but the panic did.

Right now the meeting feels like a threat. Yet God is not asking you to handle it alone. Bring this request to Him, but not just as a plea for cancellation. Lay out the whole complaint: the stress, the sense of being trapped, the feeling of inadequacy. That kind of honest meeting with God, where you tell Him exactly how you feel and then let His Spirit minister peace, often changes us even before it changes the schedule. Many of David’s prayers started in distress and ended with him rejoicing, not because the enemy had already fallen, but because he had touched the assurance that God would deal bountifully with him.

The meeting may or may not be postponed. But there is a deeper meeting available right now, one where Christ Himself meets you in your anxiety. He knows the pressures you carry. He invites you to bring those burdens to His feet and to receive the strength that comes from hope placed squarely in Him. When you do, the fear loses its hold. The outcome remains in His hands, but your heart is no longer ruled by the uncertainty.
