May God 👑 Reign through Rulers by His Word, Gen 1:26-27, Deut 17:18, Good Counsel, Prov 24:6, Protection, Peace, Salvation, 1 Tim 2:1-4

We join with you in lifting up this prayer before God, and we give thanks with you that He has ordained authority and calls us to pray for those who bear it.

Your request is according to Scripture, which commands that supplications and prayers and intercessions be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life in godliness and dignity, and that all may come to the knowledge of the truth which is in Christ Jesus alone, for there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.

We pray as you have asked, that our presidents, vice presidents, secretaries of state and defense, members of Congress and parliaments, judges and justices, together with the Pentagon, the Joint Chiefs, generals, commanders, and all who serve in defense and intelligence, would submit themselves to God and be governed by His Word. As it is written, the ruler shall write for himself a copy of the law and read in it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord. We ask God to give them good counsel, for by wise guidance war is waged and in abundance of counselors there is victory, and to grant them wisdom from above when they ask of Him.

We remember also what has been taught among us, that changing the form of government itself does not make a people better. Whether under aristocracy or king or oligarchy, men remained in the same evil ways when virtue was lacking. And the wisdom of this world, even the wisdom of the rulers of this world who are coming to nothing, cannot save. It terminates here and does not profit its possessors. The true wisdom is the wisdom of God hidden in mystery, which He foreordained before the ages for our glory, and the foolishness of God is wiser than men. Therefore we do not ask that our leaders trust in human wisdom or persuasive words of men, but that their faith and their rule may stand in the power of God.

So we pray for their protection, that God would keep them from the evil one and deliver them from temptation, that He would give His angels charge over them, that He would intercept evil plans as He did for Elisha, and expose falsehood, imposters and evil intentions. We pray that they would turn away from false teachers and flatterers who have a form of godliness but deny its power, and that God in His sovereignty would remove those who plot evil and establish those who will do justice, for promotion comes from God who puts down one and lifts up another.

We confess with you that there are no perfect rulers, and we pray with you, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Until Christ comes, we ask that these leaders would know what to do, what to set as priorities, and that they would fulfill the purposes of God in their generation as David served the purpose of God in his own generation. We seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, trusting not in our own understanding but in Him, and we ask all this with thanksgiving in the name of Jesus Christ, in whom all the promises of God are yes and amen, that the peace of God which guards hearts and minds in Christ Jesus may remain with you. Amen.

Your prayer reflects a biblical burden to intercede for those in authority, and it is right to bring it before the Lord. Scripture tells us to pray for all who govern, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in godliness and so that people may come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved. God has ordained the place of government and calls rulers to be His servants for good, and He invites His people to participate with Him through prayer and through His Word.

At the heart of your request is wisdom, and that is the principal thing to seek for any leader. When Solomon was given the opportunity to ask for anything, he did not ask for riches or honor or power over his enemies, but for wisdom to govern well, and the Lord was pleased with that choice. Because he sought wisdom first, God gave him wisdom and also added to him what he had not sought. This shows us that wisdom is better than rubies or silver or gold, and nothing we desire can compare to it. Money can be a defense, but wisdom gives life to those who have it, it preserves and keeps those who love it. We are to search for it as for hidden treasure, seeking it diligently. The beginning and foundation of such wisdom is the fear of the Lord. True wisdom comes from His mouth, from His Word, and in Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. When wisdom is personified in Scripture, it points us to Christ Himself.

There is also a wisdom that is earthly and sensual, the wisdom of this world, which Scripture says God makes foolish. It may sound clever, it may offer slogans like live for yourself and enjoy the moment, but it is folly and it comes to nothing. History shows that the ideas of men apart from God do not endure. The wisdom that comes from above is different. It leads to purity rather than sensuality, to peace rather than strife, and to righteousness. For those who lead a nation, the difference is vital. They need godly counsel, for in a multitude of counselors there is safety and victory is found. They need to be men and women of the Book, writing its truth on their hearts and ruling according to it, meditating on it and finding knowledge and understanding there. Apart from that, even intelligent people do foolish things.

So we join you in asking that those who hold influence, those who lead, who make laws, who judge, and who are entrusted with defense and intelligence, would seek the Lord and His Word for guidance. We pray that God would grant them a desire for His wisdom, that they would set right priorities and be enabled to fulfill His purposes in their generation as David served the purposes of God in his own time. We pray that they would be kept from sin and not led into temptation, but delivered from evil and from the evil one. As you prayed, we ask that the Lord would intercept evil plans and expose them, as He did for Elisha, and that He would keep these leaders from imposters and from those who have only a form of godliness but deny its power. We pray that falsehood would be uncovered, that those who do evil would be removed from influence, and that the Lord would place His hand of protection over those who seek to do what is right, for He is faithful to keep His own and to give His angels charge over them.

We agree that there are no perfect rulers. That is why we pray, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven, and we look for the coming of the Lord Jesus. Until then, we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, trusting Him with all our hearts rather than leaning on our own understanding, and bringing every request to Him with thanksgiving. We pray especially that many among those in authority and among all people would come to salvation, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved except the name of Jesus Christ, who alone is the mediator between God and man. In Him alone all the promises of God are yes and amen, and from His fullness we receive blessing upon blessing.

Father, grant wisdom to those who govern. Teach them to fear You, to love Your Word, to hate evil, and to walk in purity and prudence. Surround them with good and godly counsel, guard them from deception and from every evil plan, keep them from the evil one, and lead them in Your truth. Draw them and many others to know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and let Your peace guard our hearts and minds in Him. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer for our rulers and leaders.

We have been continuing to lift up your request that God would reign through our rulers by His Word according to Gen 1:26 and Deut 17:18, and that He would grant them good counsel according to Prov 24:6. We are agreeing with you in prayer for our presidents, vice presidents, secretaries of state and defense, the Department of Justice, members of Congress, federal judges and Supreme Court justices, and for our nations defense including the Pentagon, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, generals, military commanders, intelligence and other bureaus. We continue to pray with you for their protection, peace and salvation according to 1 Tim 2:1-4, for wisdom, guidance, godliness and unity, and for protection from falsehood, imposters, moles and leaks and from evil plans.

We are also standing with you and asking the Lord to intercept evil plans as He did for Elisha in 2 Kings 6:12, to keep our leaders from the evil one according to John 17:15 and 2 Thes 3:3, to guard them from evil people and false believers according to 2 Tim 3:5 and 2 Tim 3:13, and to surround them with godly counsel and Your Word. We pray that they would seek first Your Kingdom and righteousness according to Matt 6:33 and that they would know what to do and fully carry out Your purposes in their generation according to Acts 13:36 and James 1:5.
