I spoke to my manager about a coworker who hasnt been working well. They go on their phone and dont help the team with much. My manager went to another coworker and said I was gossiping about the coworker. Asking for prayer about this because I was just hoping this would get solved. I wasnt trying to bad mouth them. I just told her what my coworker wasnt doing and how it has been affecting the team. My manager doesnt seem to believe me and thinks im trying to stir up trouble. Please pray about it. I feel hurt that my intentions have been completely misread. I dont go around complaining or talking about everyone to one another. I just wanted a more fair workplace. I dont really know what to do from here but asking for prayer about the situation.

We hear your hurt in this situation and we stand with you in prayer, for we know how painful it is when our motives are misunderstood and our words are misrepresented. You went to your manager privately with a concern about the team rather than talking about your coworker behind their back to others, and that desire for a fair and diligent workplace is good. We believe God sees your heart and your intention was not to tear someone down but to help the team function well.

Scripture calls us to watch our words carefully and to speak in a way that builds up. Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear Ephesians 4:29. A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends Proverbs 16:28. Gossip does stir up trouble, but bringing a legitimate concern through the proper authority is not gossip. You did the right thing by not spreading this among coworkers and instead taking it to your manager. At the same time we encourage you to continue to guard your heart, so that even when you are frustrated, your words remain truthful, gentle, and without exaggeration, speaking the truth in love Ephesians 4:15.

We also understand the sting of being labeled as a troublemaker when you were trying to do what is right. The Lord knows when we are misjudged. Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this. He will make your righteousness shine out like light, and your justice as the noon day sun Psalm 37:5-6. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men Colossians 3:23. Even when a manager does not believe you, your faithfulness and steady, quiet diligence is seen by God and will speak for you over time.

From here we encourage you to seek peace as far as it depends on you. If possible, as far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. It may help to humbly ask your manager for a brief private conversation, not to argue your case, but to calmly clarify that you were not trying to gossip or stir up trouble, that you respect her leadership, and that you wanted to share how the workload has been affecting the team. Listen carefully and be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger James 1:19. Forgive your manager and your coworker for the hurt this has caused, and do not speak about the manager's response to other coworkers, lest that itself become gossip. Continue to do your work with excellence, pray for both your manager and your coworker, and trust God to bring fairness in His timing. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God Matthew 5:9.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by putting our trust in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we can boldly come before God in prayer.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to You. You see the hurt of being misunderstood and the desire for a fair and peaceful workplace. We ask You to comfort this heart and heal the wound of being misjudged. Give wisdom and discernment to the manager, and help her to lead with fairness and understanding. Work in the heart of the coworker who has not been diligent, that they would be convicted to work faithfully and to be a blessing to the team. Help our friend to walk in integrity, to keep words seasoned with grace, to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to continue to work as unto You and not for men. Vindicate what is true in Your time, restore trust where it has been broken, and let Your peace rule in this workplace. Let all be done for Your glory. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

It can help to keep the focus on your own perspective using "I" language, for example sharing that you felt concerned about the workload on the team and wanted guidance on how to handle it, rather than listing what the coworker is doing wrong. Then pause and really listen to how your manager heard it, and gently clarify that your goal was not to create trouble but to seek a solution. Choosing a quiet, neutral setting and keeping the tone calm often helps both people hear each other better.

It is a keen wound to have the heart misread when the intention was upright, and to be thought a stirrer of strife when you desired only what is fair and orderly for all. The Lord sees what man cannot see, for man looks upon the outward word but God weighs the heart that went with the tongue, and He knows whether you spoke from love of peace or from love of tale bearing.

You did well to desire a more faithful way of working for the whole team, yet even right desires must be searched before the Lord. We are prone to justify ourselves, and there is a way of self justification which condemns us even while we plead our innocence. It will be good for you to sit quietly before God and ask, has my heart gone fully with my tongue, have I spoken only truth in love, and have I sought first the good of my fellow servant as well as the good of the team. Such searching is not to heap blame upon you, but to keep you from a false peace and to bring you to that true peace which rests upon Christ alone.

He is the God of Peace and He has on His part prepared everything that is necessary for a perfect reconciliation. This is our comfort when reconciliation with others seems distant. Through Jesus Christ God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing trespasses unto them, and He has committed unto us the word of reconciliation. We who have received that reconciliation are then called to carry its spirit into every place where we live and labour, to desire reconciliation also with those who have misunderstood us. It is not enough that one party should be willing to be at peace, the other must yield too, and therefore we must go as far as in us lies, with meekness and plainness, to make the way straight.

What then shall you do. First, carry your hurt to the Lord who never changes, the same yesterday, today and forever, whose word never returns void and who never proves false to His friend. Pour out before Him the sense of injustice and ask Him to keep your heart from bitterness. Second, receive again the reconciliation that is by faith in Christ, and joy in God through Him. When you joy in a reconciled God, the sting of being misjudged by man loses its power to govern you. Third, seek a quiet and humble conversation with your manager when time allows. Do not strive to prove yourself right with many words, but in few and sober words explain that your aim was not to gossip but to seek help for a burden the team carries, ask forgiveness for any way in which your words may have sounded otherwise, and commit the matter to her wisdom. If need be, be willing to speak directly and kindly to your fellow worker also, not to accuse, but to restore.

O Father who art the God of Peace, we thank Thee that Thou hast reconciled us to Thyself by Jesus Christ and hast given us the word of reconciliation. Thou knowest the heart of this Thy servant, Thou hast seen the desire for fairness and the pain of being counted as a gossip. Forgive wherein the tongue has erred, and cleanse the heart, that truth and love may dwell together. Grant wisdom to speak aright, humility to receive correction, and grace to love those who have misjudged. Work by Thy Holy Spirit to bring reconciliation in that workplace, soften the manager toward just judgment, and stir each worker to labour faithfully as unto Thee and not unto men. Keep this wounded heart in perfect peace as it trusts in Thee, and let joy in a reconciled God be its strength day by day. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who honors the Father and who never fails His own. Amen.

Be steadfast in doing your own work with quiet faithfulness, speak what is true with few words and much prayer, and leave your reputation in the hands of Him who judges righteously.
