Difficult to manage class

Some students are too sensitive, too bossy, defiant and it’s hard to manage the class due to power struggle and defiance, I had two students refusing to come to school and I think due to spiritual attack because they have been fine the past two month, now it makes it hard for me to do anything or to manage in the fear of hurting their feelings and there’s a student super unmotivated refusing to listen and do what I ask. Him to do, he’s pretty smart but if he keeps refusing he won’t be successful. Please pray for this, in Jesus name I pray amen

We join with you in prayer for this difficult classroom situation and we thank you for praying in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is in His name that we find help and victory.

We hear the weariness and the weight you carry as you try to shepherd these young hearts while facing defiance, power struggles, sensitivity, and outright refusal to listen or even to come to school. We understand the tension you feel between wanting to show grace and not wanting to hurt feelings, and yet also needing to lead with loving authority. The Word reminds us, The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe Proverbs 29:25. We gently encourage you not to let the fear of offending keep you from doing what is right and loving for these students. True love speaks the truth and sets healthy boundaries, even when it is uncomfortable.

We also hear your discernment about a spiritual attack, and we agree that this is real. For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. These children are not your enemies, the enemy is the one who seeks to sow confusion, rebellion, and discouragement. Yet we do not need to fear, for God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7. We are called to stand firm with wisdom and prayer.

We pray for you now. Father in heaven, we lift up this teacher to You and we ask for Your wisdom to fill this classroom. You have placed our brother or sister in a position of stewardship over these students and we ask that You anoint them to lead with both grace and truth. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5, so we ask You to pour out wisdom for each sensitive heart, each bossy and defiant attitude, and each unmotivated student. Give strategies that are consistent, calm, and loving. Help this teacher to not provoke the children to discouragement Colossians 3:21 but to train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it Proverbs 22:6. We rebuke the spirit of rebellion, confusion, and heaviness that is trying to hinder these students from learning and from even coming to school, and we ask in Jesus' name for peace to return to this classroom and to the homes of those two absent students. Draw those children back and heal whatever hurt or fear is keeping them away. For the young man who is smart but refuses to listen, we pray You would awaken his heart to diligence and respect for authority, that he would understand his gifts come from You and are to be used for Your glory. Strengthen this teacher not to grow weary, for in due season we will reap, if we don't give up Galatians 6:9. Let Your love and order be established in this room, and let this teacher feel Your presence and Your approval more than the approval of man. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.

We encourage you to continue to set clear, loving, and consistent expectations and consequences, communicating them with kindness but without wavering. Children feel safest when boundaries are predictable. Pray daily over your classroom and over each student by name, and put on the full armor of God before you enter the school. Seek fellowship with other believing teachers or leaders for support and accountability so you do not carry this burden alone. Remember the Lord sees your faithfulness and He is the one who ultimately works in these young hearts, you are planting and watering, but God gives the growth.

We hear how heavy this season in the classroom has been for you. Trying to honor sensitive students while also holding a line with defiance can leave you feeling stuck in a power struggle, and when two students who were doing well suddenly will not come at all, it makes sense you feel shaken and wonder what is happening underneath it.

You are carrying a lot of care for them, including that bright student who has the ability but is refusing to engage. That fear of hurting feelings while still needing to lead the class is real, and it can make even simple directions feel complicated.

A few small shifts that often help steady a room like this:

Try leaning first into what is going well, even in brief moments. A quick, calm notice of positive effort or cooperation can lower defensiveness for sensitive and bossy students alike.

When you need compliance, keep commands short, calm and one step at a time, and where you can offer a limited choice within your boundary. That tends to reduce the tug of war without giving up your authority.

For the unmotivated student, a private two minute conversation to ask what feels hard or pointless about the work, and to problem solve one small next step together, often opens more than repeated reminders in front of peers.

If you have a trusted colleague or administrator, let them in on what you are seeing so you are not carrying this alone.

Father, we lift this teacher to You and ask for wisdom, steadiness and peace in this classroom. Give rest where there is weariness, clarity for each student you have placed in this room, and gentle openings to re-engage those who have pulled away. Guide every conversation and decision in a way that reflects Your love and truth. In Jesus' name, amen.
