It is good that you begin with thanksgiving, for gratitude becomes a believer even in trial, and your taking hold of that word in Luke 10:19 is right when it is understood in Christ. The authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy belongs to those who are in Him, not from any strength of our own, but from His victory and His keeping.
Your prayer for deliverance is heard by One who is gracious and who says, Deliver him from going down to the pit, for I have found a ransom. No man would have thought of such a deliverance, that a sinner should be saved from hell and from sin and from Satan by a ransom found by God Himself. Deliverance from the power of darkness and from the guilt of sin is as much the work of God as any other part of salvation. It is not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. If we are ever set free from spiritual bondage, it will be eternally true that the Lord brought us forth out of the house of bondage, and that Christ has made us free indeed. He is able to drag off evil habits, to snap bands and set free, to save you from yourself and from all the attacks of your old sins, to save from the devil and from evil company, for God has given commandment to save His people.
You ask for peace and rest while under constant attacks and suffering. Remember that false peace is a curse, drawn from the stagnant pool of superstition or from trying to make yourself better, but the peace which is a blessing comes only from the Lord Himself. You cannot work it out yourself. It comes through the blood which has made a full atonement. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within. The promise stands, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. That perfect peace may be enjoyed even with sorrows surging round and with thronging duties pressing, for to do the will of Jesus, this is rest. To bear your sorrow with Him is to find rest even in this dark world of sin.
Your afflictions also lie within the fence of omnipotent overruling. Troubles do not spring out of the dust, neither does affliction grow up from the ground, but the Lord Himself kindles the fiery furnace and sits as a Refiner at the door. It is well to see that what we receive, even when sorely chastened, comes from a Father's hand, and bears the aspect of chastening for our profit. This makes even the sharpest smart to be profitable, and it is hopeful to know that all our ills are under His government. He keeps back our soul from the pit and our life from perishing. When He says, Deliver him, it shall be done.
Concerning evil and its attacks, know that the Lord has delivered us from the fascinating power of sin and from the power of darkness, and He still delivers. He has taught His people the mischief that comes from loving the world and its things, so that temptation tempts in vain when we look to Him alone. We overcome evil not by returning evil for evil, which is natural to the animal nature and does us more injury than any evil from others, but by looking to our heavenly Father altogether and alone, and by overcoming evil with good. May the Lord rebuke what is evil and remove what harasses you, and may He preserve you invulnerable by giving you to answer cursing with blessing, because you are kept by Him.
As for your dream of giants, do not be troubled to seek a hidden or mystical meaning. In Scripture giants often stand for great fears and great foes, as when Israel saw giants in the land and feared, or as Goliath stood before David. The lesson is not in the image itself but in where your mind is stayed. A mind stayed on the Lord sees that He is greater than any giant, and that those who trust in Him shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord. Ask the Lord for wisdom, and He will give it, but seek that wisdom in His Word and in prayer in your closet with God, rather than in speculation. Keep your eyes on Christ, whose ransom has secured you, and you will find that even the giant falls before Him.
You have also asked for forgiveness and for healing of any unforgiveness in your heart. Forgiveness is found only through Jesus Christ alone, through His ransom and His blood. There is no other way. If you confess your sins, He is faithful and just to forgive, and to cleanse. And as you have been forgiven much, pray that the Lord would soften your heart to forgive as you have been forgiven, for deliverance from the power of sin includes deliverance from bitterness. This too is His work.
Let us pray together.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for this day and for Your mercies which are new every morning. We thank You that You have found a ransom and that in Christ there is deliverance from going down to the pit. Lord, deliver this Your child from all evil, rebuke the enemy and remove these attacks, and grant perfect peace to a mind stayed on You. Grant rest, not as the world gives, but as the blood of Jesus whispers peace within. Forgive sins through the atonement of Christ alone, and heal every root of unforgiveness, making the heart tender and free. Grant wisdom concerning all things that trouble the mind by night and by day, and let Your Word be light. Guide and protect loved ones and family in the south, and keep them in Jesus keeping where they are safe, though far away. Keep this one from the noise of archers and from inward doubts, and cause the life that is spared to declare the works of the Lord. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and ransom. Amen.
