Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your honest prayer. Your gratitude, your desire for deliverance and rest, your cry for forgiveness and for God to remove evil from your home and your life are precious to the Lord, and He hears you when you call on Him in the name of Jesus Christ.
The verse you mentioned speaks of the authority Jesus gives to His own to overcome all the power of the enemy, with the promise that nothing will ultimately harm you as you belong to Him. That authority is real, but it is His authority, not our own strength. The victory does not come from striving in our flesh, but from resting in His finished work.
Scripture teaches that true rest and peace come from a complete abandonment to God. When you place your trust fully in Him and keep your mind stayed on Him, He keeps you in perfect peace. Those who have believed enter into rest. This rest is not because God was tired, but because the work is complete. As God rested when creation was finished, so we are invited to cease from our own efforts to save or deliver ourselves and to rest in what Jesus has already accomplished on the cross. It is a done work. You do not have to earn deliverance or peace by your own power. You labor to enter that rest simply by choosing to believe and to trust Him to work out His perfect plan in your life, even while you are surrounded by difficult circumstances.
Before you can know the peace of God in your heart day by day, you must have peace with God, and that peace is made only through the blood of Jesus Christ. He made peace through His sacrifice so that your sins can be forgiven and the war between you and God can be over. No longer running from God, but yielding to Him and receiving Jesus, you have peace with God. From that place, as you surrender and keep looking to Him, you can experience His peace guarding your heart.
You asked for forgiveness and for healing from unforgiveness. There is nothing that cleanses the conscience like confessing sin openly to God and receiving His cleansing. When you confess, He washes you and makes you white as snow, and the guilt is removed. He is able to do for you what you cannot do for yourself. You may not be perfect, none of us are, but He is at work in you and He is able to keep you from falling and to make you stand. In your flesh you will fail and become discouraged and lose your peace, but as you rest in Him, He holds you. Part of that healing is also asking Him to soften your heart toward others who have hurt you, so that as you have been forgiven, you can also release forgiveness, not in your own strength but by His grace working in you.
You also asked God to rebuke evil. He is able to deliver your soul in peace from the battle that is against you, to send His mercy and truth to save you. He offers peace and healing to those who are near and to those who feel far away. If you have felt far from Him, hear His call of peace, peace, I will heal you. He is your peace who has broken down the walls. For those who remain in rebellion there is no rest, but when you turn your life over to Jesus and receive His forgiveness, the war is over and there is beautiful, wonderful peace. The wisdom that comes from above is pure and peaceable and leads to peace, while striving and worldly ways only bring confusion and unrest. You will not find real rest in prosperity, pleasure, or in trying harder. Real rest is found only in Jesus, the sure foundation.
So continue to bring your requests to your Heavenly Father with thanksgiving. Tell Him you trust Him, that you rest in His finished work, that you receive His forgiveness through the blood of Christ, and that you ask Him in Jesus name to drive away every evil influence from you and your home. Keep your mind stayed on Him through His Word and prayer, not trusting in your own ability but in His power and mercy.
May the Father have mercy on you and grant you deliverance. May He forgive your sins and cleanse you, heal any unforgiveness in your heart, and fill you with His rest and peace. May the love of Jesus Christ and the communion of the Holy Spirit abide with you, and may you walk in the awareness of His presence, resting in Him who is able to do all that you cannot do for yourself. In the precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
