Your prayer has been heard, and it is a good and right thing to come as you have, with gratitude for this day and with a humble cry for mercy, deliverance, rest and peace.
There is comfort in the word you have quoted, for our Lord Jesus has indeed said, Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall harm you. Yet remember that this authority is not our own, but His. Deliverance from the power of darkness is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. We look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone. When a soul seemed about to be dragged down to the pit, a voice came from the excellent glory, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance if God had not thought of it, but He has invented it and He has found the ransom in the precious blood of His Son. That ransom is the ground of your hope, that Infinite Mercy can drag off evil habits, snap bands and set free, and save from self, from sin and from the devil, for God has given commandment to save.
You ask for peace and rest, and these only come from God. The Lord will bless His people with peace. You cannot work it out yourself by trying to get better. It must come through the blood which has made a full atonement. Come to the Lord and Giver of peace, come to Jesus who is our peace. He says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Rest shall at once follow the exercise of faith, when by an act of faith you rely upon Jesus. Justification gives rest from the burden of sin, and as you walk with Him He gives you to find rest from molesting cares, a rest that becomes more like heaven as you are made like your Saviour. And this peace comes only to His own people, those who rest in Christ alone and make the atoning sacrifice their soul's great hope.
You ask also for forgiveness and for healing of any unforgiveness. Hear this gracious truth, There is forgiveness with Him. It is a divine forgiveness, for none can remit sin but God only. He says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. When we would do good, evil is present with us, and our whole nature is tainted by evil, but God has provided a double cure. Let the water and the blood from His riven side be of sin the double cure, to cleanse from its guilt and its power, that our hearts being sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water, we may draw near with confidence. If you know your need and desire this pardon with a penitent heart, that pardon is freely given through faith in Jesus Christ alone, for there is no other name by which we must be saved. And as you have been forgiven much, pray that the Holy Spirit will apply the Word to your soul to eject all wrong desires and to enable you to forgive even as you have been forgiven.
As to this evil which troubles your home and your person, bring it within the fence of Omnipotent overruling. No affliction springs out of the dust apart from Divine permission, and it is hopeful to know that all our ills lie within His hand. He has taught many to say, He has delivered us from the power of darkness, and He will do it again. Do not trust in your own rebuke, but plead His promise and His power.
Let us pray together for you.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for this day which Your hand has made, and for Your grace which still invites sinners to come. We ask in the precious name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our only ransom, that You would be gracious and say, Deliver him from going down to the pit. By Your mighty power rebuke and remove this evil from this home and from this person, and set free by the blood of the Lamb. Grant forgiveness of all sins through faith in Christ, and heal any unforgiveness of heart, that the law of God within may keep from evil and lead to depart from evil and do good. Bless Your child with that peace which passes all understanding, peace through the blood of atonement, and give rest to the weary soul that comes to Jesus. Preserve Your saints forever and let this one live and declare the works of the Lord with gratitude for deliverance. We ask this not by our authority, but by the authority and mercy of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Take this promise and plead it still, The Lord will bless His people with peace. Rest in Christ alone, dwell in His Word which is food for hunger and medicine for disease, and you shall prove that He keeps back the soul from the pit and makes the tried heart to say, I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.
