We hear your heart’s cry and lift this matter before the throne of grace, where our Lord Jesus Christ intercedes for us. First, we must affirm that it is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father, for He Himself said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me" (John 14:6). There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is in His name alone that we pray, trusting in His sovereignty and perfect will.
Your desire for reconciliation is understandable, for love is a gift from God, and He delights in unity and peace among His children. However, we must examine this prayer in light of Scripture, for not all relationships are ordained by God, and not all reunions align with His design. The Bible calls us to pursue relationships that honor Him, particularly in the context of marriage, which is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6). If this relationship is not rooted in a commitment to marriage under God’s design, we must ask whether it is truly His will for you to be reunited.
We also must address the reality of sin, for the Bible warns us that "bad company corrupts good character" (1 Corinthians 15:33). If this relationship has involved fornication (sex outside of marriage), we must repent and turn away from it, for Scripture is clear: "Flee sexual immorality! 'Every sin that a man does is outside the body,' but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18). If this is the case, we urge you to seek forgiveness and commit to purity, trusting that God’s plans for you are for good and not for harm (Jeremiah 29:11).
If this relationship is with someone of the same sex, we must lovingly but firmly rebuke this, for Scripture declares that homosexuality is a sin (Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10). God’s design for intimacy is within the bounds of marriage between one man and one woman, and we must submit to His Word, even when it is difficult. If this is your situation, we encourage you to seek godly counsel and repentance, trusting that God’s grace is sufficient to lead you into His truth and freedom.
Now, let us pray together, seeking God’s will above our own desires:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who alone is our mediator and advocate. We lift up this dear sister/brother to You, asking that You would grant her/him wisdom, discernment, and peace. Lord, You know the longings of her/his heart, and we ask that You would align them with Your perfect will. If this relationship is not in accordance with Your Word, we pray that You would break any unhealthy attachments and lead her/him into the freedom that comes from obedience to You.
Father, if this relationship is meant to be restored, we ask that You would soften hearts, remove bitterness, and bring healing. Let Your love and truth prevail, and may both parties seek You first in all things. If this relationship is not of You, we pray that You would close the door firmly and open a new path that leads to Your blessings and purpose. Give her/him the strength to trust You, even when the outcome is not what she/he hoped for.
Lord, we ask that You would guard her/his heart from idolatry, for we know that anything we place above You becomes a snare. Help her/him to seek You first, to delight in You above all else, and to trust that Your plans are for her/his good. Fill her/him with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and remind her/him that You are near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).
We also pray for the other person involved. If they do not know You, Lord, we ask that You would draw them to Yourself, that they might experience the saving grace of Jesus Christ. If they are a believer, we pray that You would convict them of any sin and lead them into repentance and restoration. May Your Holy Spirit work powerfully in both of their lives, bringing glory to Your name.
Father, we trust in Your timing and Your ways, for Your Word tells us that "the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations" (Psalm 33:11). We surrender this situation into Your hands, asking that You would work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to seek God’s face earnestly, not just for the return of this person, but for His will to be done in your life. Spend time in His Word, for "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105). Surround yourself with godly counsel, for "where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14). And above all, trust in the Lord with all your heart, leaning not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5-6).
If this relationship is restored, let it be under God’s terms, rooted in repentance, purity, and a commitment to honor Him in all things. If it is not restored, trust that God has something better in store for you. His love is perfect, and His plans for you are filled with hope. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and walk in the freedom and joy that comes from following Him.
