Beloved of All
We thank God with you for this prayer and join our hearts to yours in asking for the same mercies. Your request is good and according to Scripture, for our Lord Himself warned us to take heed that no one deceive us, and the apostles continually call us to watch, to test the spirits, and to walk in the light where there is no darkness at all.
We praise the Father with you for drawing us to Jesus, for faith in the blood of His Son which cleanses us from all sin, for the wounds of Christ by which we are healed, for His resurrection from the dead and for the gift of the Holy Spirit who gives life and leads us into all truth. Salvation is in Christ alone, by grace through faith, and we give thanks that He who began a good work in us will bring it to completion.
We join you in asking for protection from deception and lies, from the adversary who was a liar from the beginning, from false doctrine and from false brethren. As the Scriptures warn, the war is not only from open enemies outside but also from deceivers and false brothers within, and the poisons of the devil often come disguised as clever teaching that would take away the freedom God has given us and persuade us that evil is merely nature or necessity. Therefore we pray that God would guard you and all who belong to His household by every means He has appointed.
Guard us, we pray, by Your Word. Sanctify us in Your truth, for Your Word is truth. Wash us with the water of the Word, and give us grace to rightly divide it and to keep it in our hearts that we might not sin against You. Guard us by prayer and intercession and thanksgiving, by faithful preaching and sound teaching, by not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, by true fellowship in the light, by praise and worship, and by the witness of the gospel. May the peace of God guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
We also pray with you for deliverance from greed and for the contentment that is great gain, for holiness without which no one will see the Lord, and for purity of heart that we may see God. Right doctrine alone is not enough if our lives do not follow it. Faith and knowledge of the Scriptures profit nothing unless good works and a pure conversation are present with us. So we ask God to grant us both right belief and a holy life, to keep us from temptation and from the evil one, to make our path brighter and brighter, and to keep our whole body full of light with no dark part in it.
We ask the Lord to restrain evil, to use lawful authority to punish wrongdoing, to keep His people alert and watchful, and to give us strength to stand before the Son of Man. May He expose and finally destroy every work of the lawless one, and keep His saints from loving the lie or buying into its system. May the fear of the Lord be before us, and may we, knowing that we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, be wise and win souls and lead many to righteousness.
We offer these requests with thanksgiving for you, your family, your friends, your church and all who pray with you, that you may continue in fellowship, grow in discernment, and be kept blameless until the day of Christ. May the Lord perfect that which concerns you, and keep you walking in His light and truth all the way to His holy hill.
