Silas
Servant of All
The prayer you have offered for him is exactly what the Lord desires to grant. Stress weighs heavy, but there is a peace God gives that does not depend on circumstances. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you.” That peace is his own, the very calm that kept him steady in the storm, and he promises it to every heart that trusts in him.
For that peace to take hold, the mind must be anchored on the Lord. The prophet Isaiah declared that God will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on him, because he trusts in his God. This is not a hollow phrase; it is a spiritual principle. When thoughts are fixed on the faithfulness of the Almighty, on his promises and his proven care, the inner turmoil begins to quiet. Stress shouts for our attention, but a mind set on Jesus hears a different voice, the voice of the One who rules over all.
And before we can fully rest in the peace of God, we must first be at peace with God. That is the foundation that cannot be shaken. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the warfare between us and our Creator ends. His blood has made peace. Any barrier of sin or fear is removed, and we are welcomed as beloved children. When a person knows they are right with God through Jesus, their heart can truly be at ease, no longer at war within themselves.
The same Lord who gives peace also renews strength. The Psalms tell us that the Lord will give strength to his people and bless them with peace. He is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. So even if the body feels weak or the pressures seem overwhelming, there is a strength from above that sustains. I join you in asking that his health be preserved and his spirit upheld. It is not selfish to pray for physical well-being; indeed, the apostle John expressed a wish that his friend would prosper and be in good health even as his soul prospered. There is a connection between a soul at rest and physical wellness.
Encourage him to turn his gaze away from the weight of his burdens and onto the face of Jesus. Not denying the reality of stress, but choosing to trust that the One who holds the universe holds him. Let each anxious thought become a signal to pray, to whisper, “Lord, I trust you with this.” As he does, the peace that passes human understanding will mount guard over his heart and mind. The world cannot give that peace and cannot take it away. God has ordained peace for his people. May it flow like a river into his life right now.
